Psalms 4

World English Bible British Edition · Berean Standard Bible

4:1
Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness.
For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved my distress; show me grace and hear my prayer.
4:2
You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonour?
How long, O men, will my honor be maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies (note: Or false gods)? Selah
4:3
But know that the LORD has set apart for himself him who is godly;
Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.
4:4
Stand in awe, and don’t sin.
Be angry, yet do not sin (note: Or In your anger do not sin or Tremble and do not sin; cited in Ephesians 4:26); on your bed, search your heart and be still. Selah
4:5
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
4:6
Many say, “Who will show us any good?”
Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.
4:7
You have put gladness in my heart,
You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound.
4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep,
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
