Psalms 47

Brenton's English Septuagint · Berean Standard Bible

A Psalm of praise for the sons of Core on the second [day] of the week.
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout unto God with a voice of triumph.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.
48:1 A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, His holy mountain.
The city of the great King is well planted [on] the mountains of Sion, with the joy of the whole earth, [on] the sides of the north.
48:2 Beautiful in loftiness, the joy of all the earth, like the peaks of Zaphon (note: Or in the far north; the most sacred mountain of the Canaanites was Zaphon) is Mount Zion, the city of the great King.
God is known in her palaces, when he undertakes to help her.
48:3 God is in her citadels; He has shown Himself to be a fortress.
For, behold, the kings of the earth were assembled, they came together.
48:4 For behold, the kings assembled; they all advanced together.
They saw, and so they wondered: they were troubled, they were moved.
48:5 They saw and were astounded; they fled in terror.
Trembling took hold on them: there were the pangs as of a woman in travail.
48:6 Trembling seized them there, anguish like a woman in labor.
Thou wilt break the ships of Tharsis with a vehement wind.
48:7 With a wind from the east You wrecked the ships of Tarshish (note: Or a fleet of trading ships).
As we have heard, so have we also seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God has founded it for ever. Pause.
48:8 As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of Hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish her forever. Selah
We have thought of thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy people.
48:9 Within Your temple, O God, we contemplate Your loving devotion.
According to thy name, O God, so is also thy praise to the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
48:10 Your name, O God, like Your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness.
Let mount Sion rejoice, let the daughters of Judæa exult, because of thy judgments, O Lord.
48:11 Mount Zion is glad, the daughters (note: Or the villages) of Judah rejoice, on account of Your judgments.
Go round about Sion, and encompass her: tell ye her towers.
48:12 March around Zion, encircle her, count her towers,
Mark ye well her strength, and observe her palaces; that ye may tell the next generation.
48:13 consider her ramparts, tour her citadels, that you may tell the next generation.
For this is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide for evermore.
48:14 For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even till death (note: Or He will guide us beyond death).
