[A Psalm] of David; when he changed his demeanour before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.
Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech (note: Abimelech is another name for Achish; see 1 Samuel 21–29 and 1 Kings 2:39.), so that the king drove him away (note: This psalm is an acrostic poem, each verse beginning with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.). I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall glory in the LORD; The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
34:2 My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice.
O magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
34:3 Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.
I sought the LORD, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.
34:4 I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
They looked unto Him, and were radiant; And their faces shall never be abashed.
34:5 Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard, And saved him out of all his troubles.
34:6 This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear Him, And delivereth them.
34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
O consider and see that the LORD is good; Happy is the man that taketh refuge in Him.
34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
O fear the LORD, ye His holy ones; For there is no want to them that fear Him.
34:9 Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger; But they that seek the LORD want not any good thing.
34:10 Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
34:11 Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Who is the man that desireth life, and loveth days, That he may see good therein?
34:12 Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
Keep thy tongue from evil, And thy lips from speaking guile.
34:13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it.
34:14 Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous, And His ears are open unto their cry.
34:15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry (note: LXX to their prayer).
The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
34:16 But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil (note: Cited in 1 Peter 3:10–12), to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
They cried, and the LORD heard, And delivered them out of all their troubles.
34:17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears; He delivers them from all their troubles.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, And saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.
34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
Many are the ills of the righteous, But the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
He keepeth all his bones; Not one of them is broken.
34:20 He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken (note: Cited in John 19:36).
Evil shall kill the wicked; And they that hate the righteous shall be held guilty.
34:21 Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.
The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants; And none of them that take refuge in Him shall be desolate.
34:22 The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
