Parallel

Psalms 21

Brenton's English Septuagint · Berean Standard Bible

For the end, concerning the morning aid, a Psalm of David.
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O LORD, the king rejoices in Your strength. How greatly he exults in Your salvation!
O God, my God, attend to me: why hast thou forsaken me? the account of my transgressions is far from my salvation.
22:1 For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Doe of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me (note: Cited in Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34)? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my words of groaning?
O my God, I will cry to thee by day, but thou wilt not hear: and by night, and [it shall] not [be accounted] for folly to me.
22:2 I cry out by day, O my God, but You do not answer, and by night, but I have no rest.
But thou, the praise of Israel, dwellest in a sanctuary.
22:3 Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
Our fathers hoped in thee; they hoped, and thou didst deliver them.
22:4 In You our fathers trusted; they trusted and You delivered them.
They cried to thee, and were saved: they hoped in thee, and were not ashamed.
22:5 They cried out to You and were set free; they trusted in You and were not disappointed.
But I am a worm, and not a man; a reproach of men, and scorn of the people.
22:6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
All that saw me mocked me: they spoke with [their] lips, they shook the head, [saying],
22:7 All who see me mock me; they sneer and shake their heads:
He hoped in the Lord: let him deliver him, let him save him, because he takes pleasure in him.
22:8 “He trusts in the LORD, let the LORD deliver him; let the LORD rescue him, since He delights in him (note: Cited in Matthew 27:43).”
For thou art he that drew me out of the womb; my hope from my mother's breasts.
22:9 Yet You brought me forth from the womb; You made me secure at my mother’s breast.
I was cast on thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
22:10 From birth I was cast upon You; from my mother’s womb You have been my God.
Stand not aloof from me; for affliction is near; for there is no helper.
22:11 Be not far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
Many bullocks have compassed me: fat bulls have beset me round.
22:12 Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
They have opened their mouth against me, as a ravening and roaring lion.
22:13 They open their jaws against me like lions that roar and maul.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are loosened: my heart in the midst of my belly is become like melting wax.
22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed. My heart is like wax; it melts away within me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue is glued to my throat; and thou hast brought me down to the dust of death.
22:15 My strength (note: MT; or My mouth, a possible reading of the original Hebrew text) is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You lay me in the dust of death.
For many dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked doers has beset me round: they pierced my hands and my feet.
22:16 For dogs surround me; a band of evil men encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet (note: DSS, LXX, Vulgate, and Syriac; most MT like a lion at my hands and feet).
They counted all my bones; and they observed and looked upon me.
22:17 I can count all my bones; they stare and gloat over me.
They parted my garments [among] themselves, and cast lots upon my raiment.
22:18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing (note: Cited in John 19:24; see also Matthew 27:35, Mark 15:24, and Luke 23:34).
But thou, O Lord, remove not my help afar off: be ready for mine aid.
22:19 But You, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
Deliver my soul from the sword; my only-begotten one from the power of the dog.
22:20 Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of wild dogs.
Save me from the lion's mouth; and [regard] my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns.
22:21 Save me from the mouth of the lion; at the horns of the wild oxen You have answered me!
I will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of the church will I sing praise to thee.
22:22 I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; I will praise You in the assembly (note: LXX I will sing Your praises in the assembly; cited in Hebrews 2:12.).
Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye seed of Jacob, glorify him: let all the seed of Israel fear him.
22:23 You who fear the LORD, praise Him! All descendants of Jacob, honor Him! All offspring of Israel, revere Him!
For he has not despised nor been angry at the supplication of the poor; nor turned away his face from me; but when I cried to him, he heard me.
22:24 For He has not despised or detested the torment of the afflicted. He has not hidden His face from him, but has attended to his cry for help.
My praise is of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
22:25 My praise for You resounds in the great assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear You.
The poor shall eat and be satisfied; and they shall praise the Lord that seek him: their heart shall live for ever.
22:26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise Him. May your hearts live forever!
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before him.
22:27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before Him.
For the kingdom is the Lord's; and he is the governor of the nations.
22:28 For dominion belongs to the LORD and He rules over the nations.
All the fat ones of the earth have eaten and worshipped: all that go down to the earth shall fall down before him: my soul also lives to him.
22:29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before Him—even those unable to preserve their lives.
And my seed shall serve him: the generation that is coming shall be reported to the Lord.
22:30 Posterity will serve Him; they will declare the Lord to a new generation.
And they shall report his righteousness to the people that shall be born, whom the Lord has made.
22:31 They will come and proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn—all that He has done.
