Alors s'approchèrent les filles de Salphaad, fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, des familles de Manassé, le fils de Joseph ; leurs noms étaient Maala, Noa, Hégla, Melcha et Thersa.
Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached
Elles se présentèrent devant Moïse, devant le prêtre Eléazar, et devant les princes de toute l'assemblée, à l'entrée de la tente de réunion, et elles dirent :
the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole congregation, and said,
« Notre père est mort dans le désert ; il n'était pas au milieu de la troupe de ceux qui se liguèrent contre Yahweh, de la troupe de Coré, mais il est mort pour son péché, et il n'avait point de fils.
“Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the followers of Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
Pourquoi le nom de notre père serait-il retranché du milieu de sa famille, parce qu'il n'a pas eu de fils ? Donne-nous une propriété parmi les frères de notre père. »
Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.”
« Les filles de Salphaad ont dit une chose juste. Tu leur donneras en héritage une propriété parmi les frères de leur père, et tu leur feras passer l'héritage de leur père.
“The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You certainly must give them property as an inheritance among their father’s brothers and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
Tu parleras aux enfants d'Israël, en disant : Si un homme meurt sans avoir de fils, vous ferez passer son héritage à sa fille ;
Furthermore, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, you are to transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
et s'il n'a point de fille, vous donnerez son héritage à ses frères.
If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
S'il n'a point de frères, vous donnerez son héritage aux frères de son père ;
If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
et s'il n'y a point de frères de son père, vous donnerez son héritage au parent le plus proche dans sa famille, et c'est lui qui le possédera. Ce sera pour les enfants d'Israël une règle de droit, comme Yahweh l'a ordonné à Moïse. »
And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”
Yahweh dit à Moïse : « Monte sur cette montagne d'Abarim, et vois le pays que je donne aux enfants d'Israël.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range (note: LXX Go up Mount Nebo beyond the Jordan) and see the land that I have given the Israelites.
Tu le verras, et toi aussi tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, comme Aaron, ton frère, a été recueilli,
After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was;
parce que dans le désert de Sin, lors de la contestation de l'assemblée, vous avez été tous deux rebelles à l'ordre que j'avais donné de me sanctifier devant eux à l'occasion des eaux. Ce sont les eaux de Mériba, à Cadès, dans le désert de Sin. »
for when the congregation contended in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My holiness in their sight regarding the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah (note: Meribah means quarreling; see Exodus 17:7.) in Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin.
« Que Yahweh, le Dieu des esprits de toute chair, établisse sur l'assemblée un homme
“May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation
qui sorte devant eux et qui entre devant eux, qui les fasse sortir et qui les fasse entrer, afin que l'assemblée de Yahweh ne soit pas comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger. »
who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
Yahweh dit à Moïse : « Prends Josué, fils de Nun, homme en qui réside l'Esprit, et tu poseras ta main sur lui.
And the LORD replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man with the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
Tu le placeras devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et devant toute l'assemblée, et tu l'installeras sous leurs yeux.
Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, and commission him in their sight.
Tu mettras sur lui une part de ton autorité, afin que toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël lui obéisse.
Confer on him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him.
Il se présentera devant le prêtre Eléazar, qui consultera pour lui le jugement de l'Urim devant Yahweh ; c'est sur son ordre que sortiront, sur son ordre qu'entreront, lui, Josué, tous les enfants d'Israël avec lui et toute l'assemblée. »
He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the judgment of the Urim (note: Literally the Lights). At his command, he and all the Israelites with him—the entire congregation—will go out and come in.”
Moïse fit ce que Yahweh lui avait ordonné. Il prit Josué, et il le plaça devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et devant toute l'assemblée.
Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation,
Et ayant posé ses mains sur lui, il l'installa, comme Yahweh l'avait dit par Moïse.
and laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the LORD had instructed through Moses.
