Gardez-vous de faire vos bonnes œuvres devant les hommes, pour être vus d'eux : autrement vous n'aurez pas de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
“Be careful not to perform your righteous acts (note: BYZ and TR charitable acts or alms) before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Quand donc tu fais l'aumône, ne sonne pas de la trompette devant toi, comme font les hypocrites dans les synagogues et dans les rues, afin d'être honorés des hommes. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont reçu leur récompense.
So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Pour toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ne sache pas ce que fait ta main droite,
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
afin que ton aumône soit dans le secret ; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Lorsque vous priez, ne faites pas comme les hypocrites, qui aiment à prier debout dans les synagogues et au coin des rues, afin d'être vus des hommes. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont reçu leur récompense.
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Pour toi, quand tu veux prier, entre dans ta chambre, et, ayant fermé ta porte, prie ton Père qui est présent dans le secret ; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Dans vos prières, ne multipliez pas les paroles, comme font les païens, qui s'imaginent être exaucés à force de paroles.
And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.
Ne leur ressemblez pas, car votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin, avant que vous le lui demandiez.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Vous prierez donc ainsi : Notre Père qui êtes aux cieux, que votre nom soit sanctifié.
So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Que votre règne arrive ; que votre volonté soit faite sur la terre comme au ciel.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Donnez-nous aujourd'hui le pain nécessaire à notre subsistance.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Remettez-nous nos dettes, comme nous remettons les leurs à ceux qui nous doivent.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Et ne nous induisez point en tentation, mais délivrez-nous du mal.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
Car si vous pardonnez aux hommes leurs offenses, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi.
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Mais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux hommes, votre Père ne pardonnera pas non plus vos offenses.
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
Lorsque vous jeûnez, ne prenez pas un air sombre, comme font les hypocrites, qui exténuent leur visage, pour faire paraître aux hommes qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont reçu leur récompense.
When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Pour toi, quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
afin qu'il ne paraisse pas aux hommes que tu jeûnes, mais à ton Père qui est présent dans le secret ; et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te le rendra.
so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Ne vous amassez pas des trésors sur la terre, où la rouille et les vers rongent, et où les voleurs percent les murs et dérobent.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust (note: Or worm; also in verse 20) destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel, où ni les vers ni la rouille ne rongent, et où les voleurs ne percent pas les murs ni ne dérobent.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Car là où est votre trésor, là aussi sera votre cœur.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
La lampe du corps, c'est l'œil. Si ton œil est sain, tout ton corps sera dans la lumière ;
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good (note: Literally If your eye is sound; see Proverbs 22:9), your whole body will be full of light.
mais si ton œil est mauvais, tout ton corps sera dans les ténèbres. Si donc la lumière qui est en toi est ténèbres, combien grandes seront les ténèbres !
But if your eyes are bad (note: Literally if your eye is evil; see Proverbs 23:6 and Proverbs 28:22), your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres : car ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et la Richesse.
No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
C'est pourquoi je vous dis : Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez ou boirez ; ni pour votre corps, de quoi vous le vêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement ?
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
Regardez les oiseaux du ciel : ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, ils n'amassent rien dans des greniers, et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux ?
Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Qui de vous, à force de soucis, pourrait ajouter une coudée à la longueur de sa vie ?
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life (note: Or a single cubit to his height; a cubit was approximately 18 inches or 45 centimeters.)?
Et pourquoi vous inquiétez-vous pour le vêtement ? Considérez les lis des champs, comment ils croissent : ils ne travaillent, ni ne filent.
And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.
Et cependant je vous dis que Salomon même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
Que si Dieu revêt ainsi l'herbe des champs, qui est aujourd'hui et demain sera jetée au four, ne le fera-t-il pas bien plus pour vous, gens de peu de foi ?
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Ne vous mettez donc point en peine, disant : Que mangerons-nous, ou que boirons-nous, ou de quoi nous vêtirons-nous ?
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Car ce sont les Gentils qui recherchent toutes ces choses, et votre Père céleste sait que vous en avez besoin.
For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Cherchez premièrement le royaume de Dieu et sa justice, et tout cela vous sera donné par-dessus.
But seek first the kingdom of God (note: SBL, WH, and NE seek first His kingdom; see also Luke 12:31.) and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
N'ayez donc point de souci du lendemain, le lendemain aura souci de lui-même. A chaque jour suffit sa peine.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
