Jésus, prenant la parole, leur parla de nouveau en paraboles, et il dit :
Once again, Jesus spoke to them in parables:
" Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui faisait les noces de son fils.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
Il envoya ses serviteurs appeler ceux qui avaient été invités aux noces, et ils ne voulurent pas venir.
He sent his servants to call those he had invited to the banquet, but they refused to come.
Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, en disant : Dites aux conviés : Voilà que j'ai préparé mon festin ; on a tué mes bœufs et mes animaux engraissés ; tout est prêt, venez aux noces.
Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
Mais ils n'en tinrent pas compte, et ils s'en allèrent, l'un à son champ, l'autre à son négoce ;
But they paid no attention and went away, one to his field, another to his business.
et les autres se saisirent des serviteurs, et après les avoir injuriés, ils les tuèrent.
The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
Le roi, l'ayant appris, entra en colère ; il envoya ses armées, extermina ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville.
The king was enraged, and he sent his troops to destroy those murderers and burn their city.
Alors il dit à ses serviteurs : le festin des noces est prêt, mais les conviés n'en étaient pas dignes.
Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited were not worthy.
Allez donc dans les carrefours, et tous ceux que vous trouverez, invitez-les aux noces.
Go therefore to the crossroads and invite to the banquet as many as you can find.’
Ces serviteurs, s'étant répandus par les chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, bons ou mauvais ; et la salle des noces fut remplie de convives.
So the servants went out into the streets and gathered everyone they could find, both evil and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
Le roi entra pour voir ceux qui étaient à table et ayant aperçu là un homme qui n'était point revêtu d'une robe nuptiale,
But when the king came in to see the guests, he spotted a man who was not dressed in wedding clothes.
il lui dit : Mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici sans avoir une robe de noces ? Et cet homme resta muet.
‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless.
Alors le roi dit à ses serviteurs : Liez-lui les mains et les pieds, et jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieures : c'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Alors les Pharisiens s'étant retirés, se concertèrent pour surprendre Jésus dans ses paroles.
Then the Pharisees went out and conspired to trap Jesus in His words.
Et ils lui envoyèrent quelques-uns de leurs disciples, avec des Hérodiens, lui dire : " Maître, nous savons que vous êtes vrai, et que vous enseignez la voie de Dieu dans la vérité, sans souci de personne ; car vous ne regardez pas à l'apparence des hommes.
They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
Dites-nous donc ce qu'il vous semble : Est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César ? "
So tell us what You think: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Jésus, connaissant leur malice, leur dit : " Hypocrites, pourquoi me tentez-vous ?
But Jesus knew their evil intent and said, “You hypocrites, why are you testing Me?
Montrez-moi la monnaie du tribut. " Ils lui présentèrent un denier.
Show Me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought Him a denarius (note: A denarius was customarily a day’s wage for a laborer; see Matthew 20:2.).
Et Jésus leur dit : " De qui est cette image et cette inscription ?
“Whose image is this,” He asked, “and whose inscription?”
— De César, " lui dirent-ils. Alors Jésus leur répondit : " Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu. "
“Caesar’s,” they answered. So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
Cette réponse les remplit d'admiration, et, le quittant, ils s'en allèrent.
And when they heard this, they were amazed. So they left Him and went away.
Le même jour, des Sadducéens, qui nient la résurrection, vinrent à lui et lui proposèrent cette question :
That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and questioned Him.
" Maître, Moïse a dit : Si un homme meurt sans laisser d'enfant, que son frère épouse sa femme et suscite des enfants à son frère.
“Teacher,” they said, “Moses declared that if a man dies without having children, his brother is to marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères ; le premier prit une femme et mourut, et comme il n'avait pas d'enfant, il laissa sa femme à son frère.
Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died without having children. So he left his wife to his brother.
La même chose arriva au second, puis au troisième, jusqu'au septième.
The same thing happened to the second and third brothers, down to the seventh.
Au temps de la résurrection, duquel des sept frères sera-t-elle la femme ? Car tous l'ont eue ? "
In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For all of them were married to her.”
Jésus leur répondit : " Vous êtes dans l'erreur, ne comprenant ni les Ecritures, ni la puissance de Dieu.
Jesus answered, “You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
Car, à la résurrection, les hommes n'ont point de femmes, ni les femmes de maris ; mais ils sont comme les anges de Dieu dans le ciel.
In the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
Quant à la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce que Dieu vous a dit, en ces termes :
But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said to you:
Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob ? Or Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants. "
‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (note: Exodus 3:6)’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
Et le peuple, en l'écoutant, était rempli d'admiration pour sa doctrine.
When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
Les Pharisiens ayant appris que Jésus avait réduit au silence les Sadducéens, s'assemblèrent.
And when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they themselves gathered together.
Et l'un d'eux, docteur de la loi, lui demanda pour le tenter :
One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with a question:
" Maître, quel est le plus grand commandement de la Loi ? "
“Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?”
Jésus lui dit : " Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton esprit.
Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (note: Deuteronomy 6:5).’
C'est là le plus grand et le premier commandement.
This is the first and greatest commandment.
Le second lui est semblable : Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself (note: Leviticus 19:18).’
A ces deux commandements se rattachent toute la Loi, et les Prophètes. "
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Les Pharisiens étant assemblés, Jésus leur fit cette question :
While the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus questioned them:
" Que vous semble du Christ ? De qui est-il fils ? " Ils lui répondirent : " De David. " —
“What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He?” “David’s,” they answered.
" Comment donc, leur dit-il, David inspiré d'en haut l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, en disant :
Jesus said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord’? For he says:
Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur : Assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis l'escabeau de tes pieds ?
‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet (note: Psalm 110:1).”’
Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils ? "
So if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how can He be David’s son?”
Nul ne pouvait rien lui répondre, et, depuis ce jour, personne n'osa plus l'interroger.
No one was able to answer a word, and from that day on no one dared to question Him any further.
