Zu derselben Stunde traten die Jünger zu Jesu und sprachen: Wer ist doch der Größte im Himmelreich?
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
Jesus rief ein Kind zu sich und stellte das mitten unter sie
Jesus invited a little child to stand among them.
und sprach: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Es sei denn, dass ihr umkehret und werdet wie die Kinder, so werdet ihr nicht ins Himmelreich kommen.
“Truly I tell you,” He said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Wer nun sich selbst erniedrigt wie dies Kind, der ist der Größte im Himmelreich.
Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Und wer ein solches Kind aufnimmt in meinem Namen, der nimmt mich auf.
And whoever welcomes a little child like this in My name welcomes Me.
Wer aber ärgert dieser Geringsten einen, die an mich glauben, dem wäre es besser, dass ein Mühlstein an seinen Hals gehängt und er ersäuft werde im Meer, da es am tiefsten ist.
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Weh der Welt der Ärgernisse halben! Es muss ja Ärgernis kommen; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen Ärgernis kommt!
Woe to the world for the causes of sin. These stumbling blocks must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!
So aber deine Hand oder dein Fuß dich ärgert, so haue ihn ab und wirf ihn von dir. Es ist besser, dass du zum Leben lahm oder als Krüppel eingehst, denn dass du zwei Hände oder zwei Füße hast und wirst in das höllische Feuer geworfen.
If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than to have two hands and two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire.
Und so dich dein Auge ärgert, reiß es aus und wirf's von dir. Es ist dir besser, dass du einäugig zum Leben eingehest, denn dass du zwei Augen habest und wirst in das höllische Feuer geworfen.
And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell (note: Or the hell of fire; Greek the Gehenna of fire).
Sehet zu, dass ihr nicht jemand von diesen Kleinen verachtet. Denn ich sage euch: Ihre Engel im Himmel sehen allezeit in das Angesicht meines Vaters im Himmel.
See that you do not look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven (note: BYZ and TR include 11For the Son of Man came to save the lost; see Luke 19:10.) always see the face of My Father in heaven.
Was dünkt euch? Wenn irgend ein Mensch hundert Schafe hätte und eins unter ihnen sich verirrte: lässt er nicht die neunundneunzig auf den Bergen, geht hin und sucht das verirrte?
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?
Und so sich's begibt, dass er's findet, wahrlich ich sage euch, er freut sich darüber mehr denn über die neunundneunzig, die nicht verirrt sind.
And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices more over that one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.
Also auch ist's vor eurem Vater im Himmel nicht der Wille, dass jemand von diesen Kleinen verloren werde.
In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
Sündigt aber dein Bruder an dir, so gehe hin und strafe ihn zwischen dir und ihm allein. Hört er dich, so hast du deinen Bruder gewonnen.
If you (note: NE and WH do not include against you.)r brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.
Hört er dich nicht, so nimm noch einen oder zwei zu dir, auf dass alle Sache bestehe auf zweier oder dreier Zeugen Mund.
But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses (note: Deuteronomy 19:15).’
Hört er die nicht, so sage es der Gemeinde. Hört er die Gemeinde nicht, so halt ihn als einen Zöllner oder Heiden.
If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Wahrlich ich sage euch: Was ihr auf Erden binden werdet, soll auch im Himmel gebunden sein, und was ihr auf Erden lösen werdet, soll auch im Himmel los sein.
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Weiter sage ich euch: wo zwei unter euch eins werden, warum es ist, dass sie bitten wollen, das soll ihnen widerfahren von meinem Vater im Himmel.
Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.
Denn wo zwei oder drei versammelt sind in meinem Namen, da bin ich mitten unter ihnen.
For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”
Da trat Petrus zu ihm und sprach: Herr, wie oft muss ich denn meinem Bruder, der an mir sündigt, vergeben? Ist's genug siebenmal?
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
Jesus sprach zu ihm: Ich sage dir: Nicht siebenmal, sondern siebzigmal siebenmal.
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!
Darum ist das Himmelreich gleich einem König, der mit seinen Knechten rechnen wollte.
Because of this, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
Und als er anfing zu rechnen, kam ihm einer vor, der war ihm zehntausend Pfund schuldig.
As he began the settlements, a debtor owing ten thousand talents (note: A talent was worth about twenty years’ wages for a laborer.) was brought to him.
Da er's nun nicht hatte, zu bezahlen, hieß der Herr verkaufen ihn und sein Weib und seine Kinder und alles, was er hatte, und bezahlen.
Since the man was unable to pay, the master ordered that he be sold to pay his debt, along with his wife and children and everything he owned.
Da fiel der Knecht nieder und betete ihn an und sprach: Herr, habe Geduld mit mir, ich will dir's alles bezahlen.
Then the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Have patience with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’
Da jammerte den Herrn des Knechtes, und er ließ ihn los, und die Schuld erließ er ihm auch.
His master had compassion on him, forgave his debt, and released him.
Da ging derselbe Knecht hinaus und fand einen seiner Mitknechte, der war ihm hundert Groschen schuldig; und er griff ihn an und würgte ihn und sprach: Bezahle mir, was du mir schuldig bist!
But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii (note: A denarius was customarily a day’s wage for a laborer; see Matthew 20:2.). He grabbed him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’
Da fiel sein Mitknecht nieder und bat ihn und sprach: Habe Geduld mit mir; ich will dir's alles bezahlen.
So his fellow servant fell down and begged him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you back.’
Er wollte aber nicht, sondern ging hin und warf ihn ins Gefängnis, bis dass er bezahlte, was er schuldig war.
But he refused. Instead, he went and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay his debt.
Da aber seine Mitknechte solches sahen, wurden sie sehr betrübt und kamen und brachten vor ihren Herrn alles, was sich begeben hatte.
When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and recounted all of this to their master.
Da forderte ihn sein Herr vor sich und sprach zu ihm: Du Schalksknecht, alle diese Schuld habe ich dir erlassen, dieweil du mich batest;
Then the master summoned him and said, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave all your debt because you begged me.
solltest du denn dich nicht auch erbarmen über deinen Mitknecht, wie ich mich über dich erbarmt habe?
Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?’
Und sein Herr ward sehr zornig und überantwortete ihn den Peinigern, bis dass er bezahlte alles, was er ihm schuldig war.
In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should repay all that he owed.
Also wird euch mein himmlischer Vater auch tun, so ihr nicht vergebt von eurem Herzen, ein jeglicher seinem Bruder seine Fehler.
That is how My heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”
