6:1

Les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, et Yahweh les livra entre les mains de Madian, pendant sept ans.

Again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD; so He delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,

6:2

La main de Madian fut puissante contre Israël. A cause de Madian, les enfants d'Israël se firent les antres qui sont dans les montagnes, les cavernes et les hauteurs fortifiées.

and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in the mountains, caves, and strongholds.

6:3

Quand Israël avait semé, Madian montait avec Amalec et les fils de l'Orient, et ils marchaient contre lui.

Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites, and other people of the east would come up and invade them,

6:4

Campés en face d'Israël, ils dévastaient les productions de le terre jusque prés de Gaza, et ne laissaient aucune subsistance en Israël, ni brebis, ni bœufs, ni ânes.

encamping against them as far as Gaza and destroying the produce of the land. They left Israel with no sustenance, neither sheep nor oxen nor donkeys.

6:5

Car ils montaient avec leurs troupeaux et leurs tentes, et venaient nombreux comme des nuées de sauterelles ; eux et leurs chameaux étaient innombrables, et ils venaient dans le pays pour le dévaster.

For the Midianites came with their livestock and their tents like a great swarm of locusts. They and their camels were innumerable, and they entered the land to ravage it.

6:6

Israël fut très affaibli à cause de Madian, et les enfants d'Israël crièrent vers Yahweh.

Israel was greatly impoverished by Midian, and the Israelites cried out to the LORD.

6:7

Lorsque les enfants d'Israël eurent crié vers Yahweh au sujet de Madian,

Now when the Israelites cried out to the LORD because of Midian,

6:8

Yahweh envoya un prophète aux enfants d'Israël. Il leur dit : " Ainsi parle Yahweh le Dieu d'Israël : Je vous ai fait monter de l'Egypte, et je vous ai fait sortir de la maison de servitude.

He sent them a prophet, who told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

6:9

Je vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens et de la main de tous vos oppresseurs ; je les ai chassés devant vous, et je vous ai donné leur pays.

I delivered you out of the hands of Egypt and all your oppressors. I drove them out before you and gave you their land.

6:10

Je vous ai dit : je suis Yahweh, votre Dieu ; vous ne craindrez point les dieux des Amorrhéens dans le pays desquels vous habitez. Mais vous n'avez pas écouté ma voix. "

And I said to you: ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.’ But you did not obey Me.”

6:11

Et l'Ange de Yahweh vint, et il s'assit sous le térébinthe d'Ephra, qui apporterait à Joas, de la famille d'Abiéser. Gédéon, son fils, battait le froment dans le pressoir, pour le mettre à l'abri de Madian.

of the LORD came and sat down under in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from the Midianites.

6:12

L'Ange de Yahweh lui apparut et lui dit : " Yahweh est avec toi, vaillant héros. "

And the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon and said, “The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor.”

6:13

Gédéon lui dit : " Ah ! mon seigneur, si Yahweh est avec nous, pourquoi toutes ces choses nous sont-elles arrivées ? Et où sont tous ses prodiges que nos pères nous ont racontés, en disant : Yahweh ne nous a-t-il pas fait monter de l'Egypte ? Et maintenant Yahweh nous abandonne et nous livre entre les mains de Madian. "

“Please, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all His wonders of which our fathers told us, saying, ‘Has not the LORD brought us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”

6:14

Yahweh se tourna vers lui et dit : " Va avec cette force que tu as, et délivre Israël de la main de Madian ; ne t'ai-je pas envoyé ? "

turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?”

6:15

Gédéon lui dit : " Ah ! Seigneur, avec quoi délivrerai-je Israël ? Voici, ma famille est la plus pauvre en Manassé, et je suis le plus petit dans la maison de mon père. "

“Please, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”

6:16

Yahweh lui dit : " Je serai avec toi, et tu battras Madian comme un seul homme. "

“Surely I will be with you,” the LORD replied, “and you will strike down all the Midianites as one man.”

6:17

Gédéon lui dit : " Si j'ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, donnez-moi un signe que c'est vous qui me parlez.

Gideon answered, “If I have found favor in Your sight, give me a sign that it is You speaking with me.

6:18

Ne vous éloignez point d'ici jusqu'à ce que je revienne auprès de vous, que j'apporte mon offrande et que je la dépose devant vous. " Et Yahweh dit : " Je resterai jusqu'à ce que tu reviennes. "

Please do not depart from this place until I return to You. Let me bring my offering and set it before You.” And the LORD said, “I will stay until you return.”

6:19

Gédéon, étant entré, apprêta un chevreau et, avec un épha de farine, il fit des pains sans levain ; puis, ayant mis la chair dans une corbeille et le jus dans un vase, il les lui apporta sous le térébinthe et les lui offrit.

So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread and an ephah . He placed the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot and brought them out to present to Him under the oak.

6:20

L'Ange de Yahweh lui dit : " Prends la chair et les pains sans levain, pose-les sur ce rocher, et verse le jus. " Et il fit ainsi.

And the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened bread, lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And Gideon did so.

6:21

L'Ange de Yahweh étendit l'extrémité du bâton qu'il avait à la main, et toucha la chair et les pains sans levain. Aussitôt le feu s'éleva du rocher, et consuma la chair et les pains sans levain, et l'Ange de Yahweh disparut à ses yeux.

Then the angel of the LORD extended the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread. And fire flared from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.

6:22

Gédéon vit que c'était l'Ange de Yahweh et Gédéon dit : " Malheur à moi, Seigneur Yahweh, car j'ai vu l'Ange de Yahweh face à face. "

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he said, “Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”

6:23

Yahweh lui dit : " Sois en paix, ne crains point, tu ne mourras pas. "

But the LORD said to him, “Peace be with you. Do not be afraid, for you will not die.”

6:24

Gédéon bâtit là un autel à Yahweh et l'appela : " Yahweh-Schalôm ; " cet autel existe encore aujourd'hui à Ephra d'Abiéser.

So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD . To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

6:25

Cette nuit-là, Yahweh dit à Gédéon : " Prends le jeune taureau de ton père, et le second taureau de sept ans. Renverse l'autel de Baal qui est à ton père, et coupe l'aschéra qui est auprès.

On that very night the LORD said to Gideon, “Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old, tear down your father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.

6:26

Tu bâtiras ensuite, au sommet de ce lieu fort, un autel à Yahweh, ton Dieu, et tu le disposeras ; tu prendras le second taureau et tu offriras un holocauste avec le bois de l'aschéra que tu auras coupée. "

Then build a proper altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold. And with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down, take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering.”

6:27

Gédéon prit dix hommes parmi ses serviteurs, et exécuta ce que Yahweh lui avait dit : mais, comme il n'osait le faire de jour par crainte de la maison de son père et des gens de la ville, il le fit de nuit.

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD had told him. But because he was too afraid of his father’s household and the men of the city, he did it by night rather than in the daytime.

6:28

Lorsque les gens de la ville se levèrent le lendemain matin, voici que l'autel de Baal était renversé, que l'aschéra qui était auprès était coupée, et que le second taureau était offert en holocauste sur l'autel récemment bâti.

When the men of the city got up in the morning, there was Baal’s altar torn down, with the Asherah pole cut down beside it and the second bull offered up on the newly built altar.

6:29

Ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : " Qui a fait cela ? " et ils s'informèrent et firent des recherches. On leur dit : " C'est Gédéon, fils de Joas, qui a fait cela. "

“Who did this?” they said to one another. And after they had investigated thoroughly, they were told, “Gideon son of Joash did it.”

6:30

Alors les gens de la ville dirent à Joas : " Fais sortir ton fils et qu'il meure, car il a renversé l'autel de Baal et coupé l'aschéra qui était auprès. "

Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son. He must die, because he has torn down Baal’s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.”

6:31

Joas dit à tous ceux qui se tenaient là contre lui : " Est-ce à vous de prendre parti pour Baal ? Ou bien est-ce à vous de le secourir ? Quiconque prendra parti pour Baal sera mis à mort avant demain matin. Si Baal est Dieu, que lui-même prenne en main sa cause, puisqu'on a renversé son autel ! "

But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Are you contending for Baal? Are you trying to save him? Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If Baal is a god, let him contend for himself with the one who has torn down his altar.”

6:32

En ce jour, un donna à Gédéon le nom de Jérobaal, en disant : " Que Baal se défende contre lui, puisqu'il a renversé son autel ! "

So on that day Gideon was called , that is to say, “Let Baal contend with him,” because he had torn down Baal’s altar.

6:33

Tout Madian, Amalec et les fils de l'Orient se rassemblèrent et, ayant passé le Jourdain, ils campèrent dans la plaine de Jezraël.

Then all the Midianites, Amalekites, and other people of the east gathered together, crossed over the Jordan, and camped in the Valley of Jezreel.

6:34

L'Esprit de Yahweh revêtit Gédéon ; il sonna de la trompette, et les Abiésérites s'assemblèrent pour marcher à sa suite.

So the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, who blew the ram’s horn and rallied the Abiezrites behind him.

6:35

Il envoya des messagers dans tout Manassé, qui s'assembla aussi pour le suivre. Il envoya des messagers dans Aser, dans Zabulon et dans Nephtali, et ils montèrent à leur rencontre.

Calling them to arms, Gideon sent messengers throughout Manasseh, as well as Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, so that they came up to meet him.

6:36

Gédéon dit à Dieu : " Si vous voulez sauver Israël par ma main, comme vous l'avez dit,

Then Gideon said to God, “If You are going to save Israel by my hand, as You have said,

6:37

voici, je mettrai une toison de laine sur l'aire : si la toison seule se couvre de rosée, et que tout le sol alentour reste sec, je connaîtrai que vous délivrerez Israël par ma main, comme vous l'avez dit. "

then behold, I will place a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that You are going to save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”

6:38

Et il arriva ainsi. Le jour suivant, s'étant levé de bon matin, il pressa la toison, et en fit sortir la rosée, plein une coupe d'eau.

And that is what happened. When Gideon arose the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water.

6:39

Gédéon dit à Dieu : " Que votre colère ne s'enflamme pas contre moi ; que je puisse encore parler une fois : je voudrais une fois encore seulement faire une épreuve avec la toison : que la toison seule reste sèche, et que la rosée tombe sur tout le sol alentour. "

Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me one more test with the fleece. This time let it be dry, and the ground covered with dew.”

6:40

Et Dieu fit ainsi cette nuit-là : la toison seule resta sèche, et tout le sol se couvrit de rosée.

And that night God did so. Only the fleece was dry, and dew covered the ground.
