Après Abimélech, Thola, fils de Phua, fils de Dodo, homme d'Issachar, se leva pour délivrer Israël ; il demeurait à Samir, dans la montagne d'Ephraïm.
After the time of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose up to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
Il fut juge en Israël pendant vingt-trois ans ; puis il mourut et fut enterré à Samir.
Tola judged (note: Or governed or led; here and throughout the book of Judges) Israel twenty-three years, and when he died, he was buried in Shamir.
Après lui se leva Jaïr, de Galaad, qui jugea Israël pendant vingt-deux ans.
Tola was followed by Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.

He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys. And they had thirty towns in the land of Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth-jair (note: Or the villages of Jair).
Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh ; ils servirent les Baals et les Astartés, les dieux de Syrie, les dieux de Sidon, les dieux de Moab, les dieux des fils d'Ammon et les dieux des Philistins, et ils abandonnèrent Yahweh et ne le servirent plus.
And again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. They served the Baals, the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and Philistines. Thus they forsook the LORD and did not serve Him.
La colère de Yahweh s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les vendit entre les mains des Philistins et entre les mains des fils d'Ammon.
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and Ammonites,
Ces derniers opprimèrent et écrasèrent les enfants d'Israël en cette année-là ; et cette oppression dura dix-huit ans pour tous les enfants d'Israël qui habitaient de l'autre côté du Jourdain, dans le pays des Amorrhéens en Galaad.
who that very year harassed and oppressed the Israelites, and they did so for eighteen years to all the Israelites on the other side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.
Les fils d'Ammon passèrent le Jourdain pour combattre aussi Juda, Benjamin et la maison d'Ephraïm ; et Israël fut réduit à une grande détresse.
The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, and Israel was in deep distress.
Les enfants d'Israël crièrent vers Yahweh, en disant : " Nous avons péché contre vous, car nous avons abandonné notre Dieu et nous avons servi les Baals. "
Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against You, for we have indeed forsaken our God and served the Baals.”
Yahweh dit aux enfants d'Israël : " Est-ce que je ne vous ai pas délivrés des Egyptiens, des Amorrhéens, des fils d'Ammon, des Philistins ?
The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,
Et lorsque les Sidoniens, Amalec et Maon vous ont opprimés, et que vous avez crié vers moi, ne vous ai-je pas sauvés de leurs mains ?
Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites (note: Hebrew; some LXX manuscripts Midianites) oppressed you and you cried out to Me, did I not save you from their hands?
Mais vous, vous m'avez abandonné et vous avez servi d'autres dieux ; c'est pourquoi je ne vous délivrerai plus.
But you have forsaken Me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.
Allez, invoquez les dieux que vous vous êtes choisis ; qu'ils vous délivrent au temps de votre détresse ! "
Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of trouble.”
Les enfants d'Israël dirent à Yahweh : " Nous avons péché, traitez-nous tous comme il vous semblera bon. Seulement daignez nous délivrer en ce jour. "
“We have sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us today!”
Et ils ôtèrent du milieu d'eux les dieux étrangers, et ils servirent Yahweh, et son âme ne put supporter les souffrances d'Israël.
So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and He could no longer bear the misery of Israel.
Les fils d'Ammon se rassemblèrent et campèrent en Galaad, et les enfants d'Israël se réunirent et campèrent à Maspha.
Then the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, and the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.
Le peuple, les chefs de Galaad se dirent les uns aux autres : " Quel est l'homme qui commencera l'attaque contre les fils d'Ammon ? Il deviendra chef de tous les habitants de Galaad. "
And the rulers of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever will launch the attack against the Ammonites will be the head of all who live in Gilead.”
