When Jesus realized that the Pharisees were aware He was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John

Il vint donc en une ville de Samarie, nommée Sichar, près du champ que Jacob avait donné à son fils Joseph.
So He came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

Since Jacob’s well was there, Jesus, weary from His journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour (note: That is, about noon).

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

“You are a Jew,” said the woman. “How can You ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans (note: Tischendorf does not include this sentence.).)

Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
Seigneur, lui dit la femme, vous n'avez rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond : d'où auriez-vous donc cette eau vive ?
“Sir,” the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water?

Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock?”
Jésus lui répondit : " Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif ; mais celui qui boira de l'eau que je lui donnerai, n'aura plus jamais soif ;
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.
au contraire l'eau que je lui donnerai deviendra en lui une source d'eau jaillissant jusqu'à la vie éternelle. "
But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.”
La femme lui dit : " Seigneur, donnez-moi de cette eau, afin que je n'aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus puiser ici. —
The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
Allez, lui dit Jésus, appelez votre mari, et venez ici. "
Jesus told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
La femme répondit : " Je n'ai point de mari. " Jésus lui dit : " Vous avez raison de dire : Je n'ai point de mari ;
“I have no husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said to her, “You are correct to say that you have no husband.
car vous avez eu cinq maris, et celui que vous avez maintenant n'est pas à vous ; en cela, vous avez dit vrai. "
In fact, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. You have spoken truthfully.”
La femme dit : " Seigneur, je vois que vous êtes un prophète.
“Sir,” the woman said, “I see that You are a prophet.
Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne, et vous, vous dites que c'est à Jérusalem qu'est le lieu où il faut adorer. "
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”
Jésus dit : " Femme, croyez-moi, l'heure vient où ce ne sera ni sur cette montagne, ni dans Jérusalem, que vous adorerez le Père.
“Believe Me, woman,” Jesus replied, “a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
Vous adorez ce que vous ne connaissez pas ; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, car le salut vient des Juifs.
You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Mais l'heure approche, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité ; ce sont de tels adorateurs que le Père demande.
But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.

God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”
La femme lui répondit : " Je sais que le Messie (celui qu'on appelle Christ) va venir ; lorsqu'il sera venu, il nous instruira de toutes choses. "
The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
Jésus lui dit : " Je le suis, moi qui vous parle. "
Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am He.”
Et à ce moment arrivèrent ses disciples, et ils s'étonnèrent de ce qu'il parlait avec une femme ; néanmoins, aucun ne dit : " Que demandez-vous ? " ou : " Pourquoi parlez-vous avec elle ? "
Just then His disciples returned and were surprised that He was speaking with a woman. But no one asked Him, “What do You want from her?” or “Why are You talking with her?”
La femme, alors, laissant là sa cruche, s'en alla dans la ville, et dit aux habitants :
Then the woman left her water jar, went back into the town, and said to the people,

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

So they left the town and made their way toward Jesus.

Meanwhile the disciples urged Him, “Rabbi, eat something.”

But He told them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
Et les disciples se disaient les uns aux autres : " Quelqu'un lui aurait-il apporté à manger ? "
So the disciples asked one another, “Could someone have brought Him food?”
Jésus leur dit : " Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé et d'accomplir son œuvre.
Jesus explained, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.
Ne dites-vous pas vous-mêmes : Encore quatre mois, et ce sera la moisson ? Moi, je vous dis : Levez les yeux, et voyez les champs qui déjà blanchissent pour la moisson.
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months until the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ripe (note: Literally white) for harvest.
Le moissonneur reçoit son salaire et recueille du fruit pour la vie éternelle, afin que le semeur et le moissonneur se réjouissent ensemble.
Already the reaper draws his wages and gathers a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may rejoice together.

For in this case the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.

I sent you to reap what you have not worked for; others have done the hard work, and now you have taken up their labor.”
Or, beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville crurent en Jésus sur la parole de la femme qui avait rendu ce témoignage : " Il m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait. "
Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Jesus because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”
Les Samaritains étant donc venus vers lui, le prièrent de rester chez eux, et il y demeura deux jours.
So when the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him to stay with them, and He stayed two days.
Et un plus grand nombre crurent en lui pour l'avoir entendu lui-même.
And many more believed because of His message.
Et ils disaient à la femme : " Maintenant ce n'est plus à cause de ce que vous avez dit que nous croyons ; car nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons qu'il est vraiment le Sauveur du monde. "
They said to the woman, “We now believe not only because of your words; we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man truly is the Savior of the world.”
Après ces deux jours, Jésus partit de là pour se rendre en Galilée.
After two days, Jesus left for Galilee.
Car Jésus avait déclaré lui-même qu'un prophète n'est point honoré dans sa patrie.
Now He Himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.
Lorsqu'il fut arrivé en Galilée, les Galiléens l'accueillirent, ayant vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem pendant la fête ; car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête.
Yet when He arrived, the Galileans welcomed Him. They had seen all the great things He had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they had gone there as well.
Il retourna donc à Cana en Galilée, où il avait changé l'eau en vin. Or, il y avait un officier du roi dont le fils était malade à Capharnaüm.
So once again He came to Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.
Ayant appris que Jésus arrivait de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui, et le pria de descendre, pour guérir son fils qui était à la mort.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.
Jésus lui dit : " Si vous ne voyez des signes et des prodiges, vous ne croyez point. "
Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.”
L'officier du roi lui dit : " Seigneur, venez avant que mon enfant meure. —
“Sir,” the official said, “come down before my child dies.”
Va, lui répondit Jésus, ton enfant est plein de vie. " Cet homme crut à la parole que Jésus lui avait dite et partit.
“Go,” said Jesus. “Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at His word and departed.
Comme il s'en retournait, ses serviteurs vinrent à sa rencontre, et lui apprirent que son enfant vivait.
And while he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was alive.
Il leur demanda à quelle heure il s'était trouvé mieux, et ils lui dirent : " Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l'a quitté. "
So he inquired as to the hour (note: That is, one in the afternoon) when his son had recovered, and they told him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.”
Le père reconnut que c'était l'heure à laquelle Jésus lui avait dit : " Ton fils est plein de vie ", et il crut, lui et toute sa maison.
Then the father realized that this was the very hour in which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and all his household believed.
Ce fut le second miracle que fit Jésus en revenant de Judée en Galilée.
This was now the second sign that Jesus performed after coming from Judea into Galilee.
