“Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, is a thief and a robber. *
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.
But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. *
But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. *

Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. *

But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will flee from him because they do not recognize his voice.”
Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them.

Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door. *
So He said to them again, “Truly, truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. *
All who came before Me (note: BYZ All who came) were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture. *
I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.
The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. *
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.
“I am the good shepherd.* The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. *
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. *
The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.
The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and doesn’t care for the sheep. *
The man runs away because he is a hired servant and is unconcerned for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own; *
I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me,
even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. *
just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.
I have other sheep which are not of this fold.* I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd. *
I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them in as well, and they will listen to My voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, * that I may take it again. *
The reason the Father loves Me is that I lay down My life in order to take it up again.
No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father.”*
No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from My Father.”
Therefore a division arose again amongst the Jews because of these words.
Again there was division among the Jews because of Jesus’ message.
Many of them said, “He has a demon and is insane! Why do you listen to him?”
Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and insane. Why would you listen to Him?”
Others said, “These are not the sayings of one possessed by a demon. It isn’t possible for a demon to open the eyes of the blind, is it?”
But others replied, “These are not the words of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
It was the Feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem.
At that time the Feast of Dedication (note: That is, Hanukkah, the historic celebration of the Maccabean Revolt and rededication of the temple) took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,
It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.
and Jesus was walking in the temple courts in Solomon’s Colonnade.
The Jews therefore came around him and said to him, “How long will you hold us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
So the Jews gathered around Him and demanded, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you don’t believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me. *
“I already told you,” Jesus replied, “but you did not believe. The works I do in My Father’s name testify on My behalf.
But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you. *
But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. *
My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. *
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.
My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand. *

Therefore the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
At this, the Jews again picked up stones to stone Him.
Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?”*
But Jesus responded, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone Me?”
The Jews answered him, “We don’t stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
“We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, make Yourself out to be God.”
Jesus answered them, “Isn’t it written in your law, ‘I said, you are gods’?*
Jesus replied, “Is it not written in your Law: ‘I have said you are gods (note: Psalm 82:6)’?
If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture can’t be broken), *
If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? *
then what about the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world? How then can you accuse Me of blasphemy for stating that I am the Son of God?
If I don’t do the works of my Father, don’t believe me. *
If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me.
But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” *
But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.”
They sought again to seize him, and he went out of their hand.
At this, they tried again to seize Him, but He escaped their grasp.
He went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was baptising at first, and he stayed there.
Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had first been baptizing, and He stayed there.
Many came to him. They said, “John indeed did no sign, but everything that John said about this man is true.”
Many came to Him and said, “Although John never performed a sign, everything he said about this man was true.”
