Ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου, πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία.
“Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ Διορθώσατε τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν, καὶ κατοικιῶ ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ.
Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: Correct your ways and deeds, and I will let you live in this place.
μὴ πεποίθατε ἐφʼ ἑαυτοῖς ἐπὶ λόγοις ψευδέσιν, ὅτι τὸ παράπαν οὐκ ὠφελήσουσιν ὑμᾶς λέγοντες Ναὸς Κυρίου, ναὸς Κυρίου ἐστίν.
Do not trust in deceptive words, saying: ‘This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.’
ὅτι ἐὰν διορθοῦντες διορθώσητε τὰς ὁδοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα ὑμῶν, καὶ ποιοῦντες ποιήσητε κρίσιν ἀνὰ μέσον ἀνδρὸς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ,
For if you really correct your ways and deeds, if you act justly toward one another,
καὶ προσήλυτον καὶ ὀρφανὸν καὶ χήραν μὴ καταδυναστεύσητε, καὶ αἶμα ἀθῷον μὴ ἐκχέητε ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ, καὶ ὀπίσω θεῶν ἀλλοτρίων μὴ πορεύησθε εἰς κακὸν ὑμῖν·
if you no longer oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own harm,
καὶ κατοικιῶ ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ ἐν γῇ ᾗ ἔδωκα τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν ἐξ αἰῶνος καὶ ἕως αἰῶνος.
then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.
εἰ δὲ ὑμεῖς πεποίθατε ἐπὶ λόγοις ψευδέσιν ὅθεν οὐκ ὠφεληθήσεσθε,
But look, you keep trusting in deceptive words to no avail.
καὶ φονεύετε καὶ μοιχᾶσθε καὶ κλέπτετε καὶ ὀμνύετε ἐπʼ ἀδίκῳ, καὶ ἐθυμιᾶτε τῇ Βάαλ καὶ ἐπορεύεσθε ὀπίσω θεῶν ἀλλοτρίων ὧν οὐκ οἴδατε
Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,
τοῦ κακῶς εἶναι ὑμῖν, καὶ ἤλθετε καὶ ἔστητε ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ εἴπατε Ἀπεσχήμεθα τοῦ μὴ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ βδελύγματα ταῦτα.
and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
μὴ σπήλαιον λῃστῶν ὁ οἶκός μου οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ ἐκεῖ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν; καὶ ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ ἑόρακα, λέγει Κύριος.
Has this house, which bears My Name, become a den of robbers (note: Cited in Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, and Luke 19:46) in your sight? Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.
ὅτι ἐπορεύθητε εἰς τὸν τόπον μου τὸν ἐν Σηλώ, οὗ κατεσκήνωσα τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐκεῖ ἔμπροσθεν, καὶ ἴδετε ἃ ἐποίησα αὐτῷ ἀπὸ προσώπου κακίας λαοῦ μου Ἰσραὴλ.
But go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.
καὶ νῦν ἀνθʼ ὧν ἐποιήσατε πάντα τὰ ἔργα ταῦτα, καὶ ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατέ μου, καὶ ἐκάλεσα ὑμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθητε·
And now, because you have done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer,
καὶ ποιήσω τῷ οἴκῳ ᾧ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, ἐφʼ ᾧ ὑμεῖς πεποίθατε ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ τῷ τόπῳ ᾧ ἔδωκα ὑμῖν καὶ τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν, καθὼς ἐποίησα τῇ Σηλώ.
therefore what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers.
καὶ ἀπορρίψω ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ προσώπου μου, καθὼς ἀπέριψα τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν, πᾶν τὸ σπέρμα Ἐφράιμ.
And I will cast you out of My presence, just as I have cast out all your brothers, all the descendants of Ephraim.
Καὶ σὺ μὴ προσεύχου περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου, καὶ μὴ ἀξίου τοῦ ἐλεηθῆναι αὐτούς, καὶ μὴ εὔχου καὶ μὴ προσέλθῃς μοι περὶ αὐτῶν, ὅτι οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι.
As for you, do not pray for these people, do not offer a plea or petition on their behalf, and do not beg Me, for I will not listen to you.
ἡ οὐχ ὁρᾶς τί αὐτοὶ ποιοῦσιν ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ἰούδα καὶ ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς Ἰερουσαλήμ;
Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν συλλέγουσιν ξύλα, καὶ οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν καίουσι πῦρ, καὶ αἰ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν τρίβουσιν σταῖς, τοῦ ποιῆσαι χαυῶνας τῇ στρατίῳ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἔσπεισαν σπονδὰς θεοῖς ἀλλοτρίοις ἵνα παροργίσωσίν με.
The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke Me to anger.
μὴ ἐμέ αὐτοὶ παροργίζουσιν λέγει Κύριος, οὐχὶ ἑαυτούς, ὅπως καταισχυνθῇ τὰ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν;
But am I the One they are provoking? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?
διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἰδοὺ ὀργὴ καὶ θυμός μου χεῖται ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ κτήνη καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶν ξύλον τοῦ ἀγροῦ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ γενήματα τῆς γῆς, καὶ καυθήσεται καὶ οὐ σβεσθήσεται.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the produce of the land, and it will burn and not be extinguished.
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Τὰ ὁλοκαυτώματα ὑμῶν συναγάγετε μετὰ πῶν θυσιῶν ὑμῶν καὶ φάγετε κρέα.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves!
ἴτι οὐκ ἐλάλησα πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ὑμῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἀνήγαγον αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου περὶ ὁλοκαυτωμάτων καὶ θυσίας·
For when I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt, I did not merely command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices,
ἀλλ᾿ ἢ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς λέγων Ἀκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου, καὶ ἔσομαι ὑμῖν εἰς θεὸν καὶ ὑμεῖς ἔσεσθέ μοι εἰς λαόν, καὶ πορεύεσθε ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς μου αἷς ἂν ἐντείλωμαι ὑμῖν, ὅπως ἂν εὖ ᾖ ὑμῖν.
but this is what I commanded them: Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must walk in all the ways I have commanded you, so that it may go well with you.
καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσάν μου καὶ οὐ προσέσχεν τὸ οὖς αὐτῶν, ἀλλʼ ἐπορεύθησαν τοῖς ἐνθυμήμασιν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν τῆς κακῆς, καὶ ἐγενήθησαν εἰς τὰ ὄπισθεν καὶ οὐκ εἰς τὰ ἔμπροσθεν,
Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but they followed the stubborn inclinations of their own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.
ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ἐξήλθοσαν οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου καὶ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης. καὶ ἐξαπέστειλα πρὸς ὑμᾶς πάντας τοὺς δούλους μου τοὺς προφήτας, ἡμέρας καὶ ὄρθρου· καὶ ἀπέστειλα,
From the day your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets again and again.
καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσάν μου καὶ οὐ προσέσχεν τὸ οὗς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐσκλήρυναν τὸν τράχηλον αὐτῶν ὑπέρ τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν.
Yet they would not listen to Me or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and did more evil than their fathers.
καὶ ἐρεῖς αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον τοῦτον Τοῦτο τὸ ἔθνος ὃ οὐκ ἤκουσεν τῆς φωνῆς Κυρίου οὐδὲ ἐδέξατο παιδείαν· ἐξέλιπεν ἡ πίστις ἐκ στόματος αὐτῶν.
Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
Κεῖρε τὴν κεφαλήν σου καὶ ἀπόριπτε, καὶ ἀνάλαβε ἐπὶ χειλέων θρῆνον, ὅτι ἀπεδοκίμασεν Κύριος καὶ ἀπώσατο τὴν γενεὰν τὴν ποιοῦσαν ταῦτα.
Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a lamentation on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’
ὅτι ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰούδα τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ, λέγει Κύριος· ἔταξαν τὰ βδελύγματα αὐτῶν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ οὗ ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπʼ αὐτόν, τοῦ μιᾶναι αὐτόν·
For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have defiled it.
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν τὸν βωμὸν τοῦ Τάφεθ, ὅς ἐστιν ἐν φάραγγι υἱοῦ Ἐννόμ, τοῦ κατακαίειν τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτῶν ἐν πυρί, ὃ οὐκ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς καὶ οὐ διενοήθην ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ μου.
They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben-hinnom so they could burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My mind.
διὰ τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται, λέγει Κύριος, καὶ οὐκ ἐροῦσιν ἔτι Βωμὸς τοῦ Τάφεθ καὶ φάραγξ υἱοῦ Ἑννόμ, ἀλλ᾿ Ἡ φάραγξ τῶν ἀνῃρημένων· καὶ θάψουσιν ἐν τῷ Τάφεθ διὰ τὸ μὴ ὑπάρχειν τόπον,
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.
καὶ ἔσονται οἱ νεκροὶ τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου εἰς βρῶσιν τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τοῖς θηρίοις τῆς γῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἀποσοβῶν.
The corpses of this people will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to scare them away.
καὶ καταλύσω ἐκ πόλεως Ἰούδα καὶ ἐκ διόδων Ἰερουσαλὴμ φωνὴν εὐφραινομένων καὶ φωνὴν χαιρόντων, φωνὴν νυμφίου καὶ φωνὴν νύμφης, ὅτι εἰς ἐρήμωσιν ἔσται πᾶσα ἡ γῆ.
I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and gladness and the voices of the bride and bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”
