Ὄωτος εἰκοστοῦ καὶ ἑνὸς ἔτους Σεδεκίου ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτόν, καὶ ἕνδεκα ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ· καὶ ὄνομα τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ Ἀμειταὰλ θυγάτηρ Ἰερεμίου ἐκ Λοβενά.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.
καὶ ἐγένετο τῷ ἔτει τῷ ἐνάτῳ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ ἐν μηνὶ τῷ ἐνάτῳ δεκάτη τοῦ μηνὸς ἦλθεν Ναβουχοδονοσὸρ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος καὶ πᾶσα ἡ δύναμις αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ περιεχαράκωσαν αὐτὴν καὶ περιῳκοδόμησαν αὐτὴν τετραπόδοις κύκλῳ.
So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
καὶ ἦλθεν ἡ πόλις εἰς συνοχὴν ἕως ἑνδεκάτου ἔτους τῷ βασιλεῖ Σεδεκίς
And the city was kept under siege until King Zedekiah’s eleventh year.
ἐν τῇ ἐνάτῃ τοῦ μηνός, καὶ ἐστερεώθη ὁ λιμὸς ἐν τῇ πόλει, καὶ οὐκ ἦσαν ἄρτοι τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς.
By the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine in the city was so severe that the people of the land had no food.
καὶ διεκόπη ἡ πόλις, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ ἐξῆλθον νυκτὸς κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν τῆς πύλης ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ τείχους καὶ τοῦ προτειχίσματος, ὃ ἣν κατὰ τὸν κῆπον τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ οἱ λαλδαῖοι ἐπὶ τῆς πόλεως κύκλῳ. καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὁδὸν τὴν εἰς ἀραβά,
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans (note: That is, the Babylonians; similarly in verses 8, 9, 14, and 17) had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah (note: Or the Jordan Valley),
καὶ κατεδίωξεν ἡ δύναμις τῶν Χαλδαίων ὀπίσω τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ κατέλαβον αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ πέραν Ἰερειχώ, καὶ πάντες οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ διέσπαρησαν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ. ⁹καὶ συνέλαβον τὸν βασιλέα, καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Δεβλάθα· καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ μετὰ κρίσεως.
but the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and his whole army deserted him.
καὶ ἔσφαξεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τοὺς υἱοὺς Σεδεκίου κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ πάντας τοὺς ἄρχοντας Ἰούδα ἔσφαξεν ἐν Δεβλάθα.
There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and he also killed all the officials of Judah.
καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς Σεδεκίου ἐξετύφλωσεν καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐν πέδαις καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν εἰς οἰκίαν μύλωνος ἕως ἡμέρας ἧς ἀπέθανεν.
Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon, where he kept him in custody until his dying day.
Καὶ ἐν μηνὶ πέμπτῳ δεκάτῃ τοῦ μηνὸς ἥλθεν Ναβουζαρδὰν ὁ ἰρχιμώγειρος ἑστηκὼς κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ,
On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign over Babylon, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, entered Jerusalem.
καὶ ἐνέπρησεν τὸν οἶκον Κυρίου καὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ πάσας τὰς οἰκίας τῆς πόλεως καὶ πᾶσαν οἰκίαν μεγάλην ἐνέπρησεν ἐν πυρί.
He burned down the house of the LORD, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem—every significant building.
καὶ πᾶν τεῖχος Ἰερουσαλὴμ κύκλῳ καθεῖλεν ἡ δύναμις τῶν Χαλδαίων ἡ μετὰ τοῦ ἀρχιμαγείρου
And the whole army of the Chaldeans under the captain of the guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.
καὶ τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ λαοῦ κατέλειπεν ὁ ἀρχιμμγειρος εἰς ἀμπελουργοὺς καὶ εἰς γεαοργούς.
But Nebuzaradan captain of the guard left behind some of the poorest of the land to tend the vineyards and fields.
καὶ τοὺς στύλους τοὺς χαλκοῦς τοὺς ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου καὶ τὰς βάσεις καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν χαλκῆν τὴν ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου συνέτριψαν οἱ Καλδαῦι, καὶ ἔλαβον τὸν χαλκὸν αὐτῶν καὶ ἀπήνεγκαν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα.
Moreover, the Chaldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands and the bronze Sea in the house of the LORD, and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.
καὶ τὴν στεφάνην καὶ τὰς φιάλας καὶ τὰς κρεάγρας καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ χαλκᾶ ἐν οἷς ἐλειτούργουν ἐν αὐτοῖς,
They also took away the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes, and all the articles of bronze used in the temple service.
καὶ τὰ σαφφὼθ καὶ τὰ μασμαρὼθ καὶ τοὺς ὑποχυτῆρας καὶ τὰς λυχνίας καὶ τὰς θυίσκας καὶ τοὺς κυάθους, ἃ ἦν χρυσᾶ χρυσᾶ καὶ ἃ ἣν ἀργυρᾶ ἀργυρᾶ, ἔλαβεν ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρυς.
The captain of the guard also took away the basins, censers, sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, pans, and drink offering bowls—anything made of pure gold or fine silver.
καὶ οἱ στύλοι δύο, καὶ ἡ θάλασσα μία, καὶ οἱ μόσχοι δὼδεκα χαλκοῖ ὑποκάτω τῆς θαλάσσης, ἃ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν εἰς οἶκον Κυρίου· οὐκ ἦν σταθμὸς τοῦ χαλκοῦ αὐτῶν.
As for the two pillars, the Sea, the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands that King Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the weight of the bronze from all these articles was beyond measure.
καὶ οἱ στύλοι τριάκοντα πέντε πηχῶν ὕψος τοῦ κτίλου τοῦ ἑνός, καὶ σπαρτίον δώδεκα πήχεααον περιεκύκλου αὐτόν, καὶ τὸ πάχος αὐτοῦ δακτύλων τεσσάρων κύκλῳ,
Each pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference (note: Each pillar was approximately 27 feet high and 18 feet in circumference (8.2 meters high and 5.5 meters in circumference).); each was hollow, four fingers thick (note: 4 fingers is approximately 2.9 inches or 7.4 centimeters.).
καὶ γεῖσος ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς χαλκοῦν, καὶ πέντε πήχεαων τὸ μῆκος, ὑπεροχὴ τοῦ γείσους τοῦ ἑνός, καὶ δίκτυον καὶ ῥόαι ἐπὶ τοῦ γείσους κύκλῳ, τὰ πάντα χαλκᾶ· καὶ κατὰ ταῦτα τῷ στύλῳ τῷ δευτέρῳ, ὀκτὼ ὸόαι τῷ πήχει τοῖς δώδεκα πήχεσιν.
The bronze capital atop one pillar was five cubits high (note: 5 cubits is approximately 7.5 feet or 2.3 meters.), with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second pillar, with its pomegranates, was similar.
καὶ ἦσαν αἱ ὸόαι ἐνενήκοντα ἴξ ἕν μέρος. καὶ ἦσαν αἱ πᾶσαι ῥόαι ἑκατὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ δικτύου κύκλῳ.
Each capital had ninety-six pomegranates on the sides, and a total of a hundred pomegranates were above the surrounding network.
καὶ ἔλαβεν ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος τὸν ἱερέα τὸν πρῶτον καὶ τὸν ἱερέα τὸν δευτεροῦντα καὶ τοὺς τρεῖς τοὺς φυλάττοντας τὴν ὁδόν,
The captain of the guard also took away Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest of second rank, and the three doorkeepers.
καὶ εὺνοῦχον ἕνα ὸς ἦν ἐπιστάτης ἀνδρῶν τῶν πολεμιστῶν, καὶ ἑπτὰ ἄνδρας ὀνομαστοὺς τοὺς ἐν προσώπῳ τοῦ βασιλέως τοὺς εὑρεθέντας ἐν τῇ πόλει, καὶ τὸν γραμματέα τῶν δυνάμεων τὸν γραμματεύοντα τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐξήκοντα ἀνθρώπους ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ τῆς γῆς τοὺς εὑρεθέντας ἐν μέσῳ τῆς πόλεως.
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the scribe of the captain of the army, who had enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτοὺς Ναβουζαρδὰν ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτοὺς πρὸς βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Δεβλάθα·
Nebuzaradan captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.
καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐν Δεβλάθα ἐν γῇ Αἱμάθ.
There at Riblah in the land of Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ τριακοστῷ καὶ ἑβδόμῳ ἔτει ἀποικισθέντος τοῦ Ἰωακεὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα, ἐν τῷ δωδεκάτῳ μηνὶ ἐν τῇ τετράδι καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνός, ἔλαβεν Οὐλαιμαδαχὰρ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος, ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ᾧ ἐβασίλευσεν, τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωακεὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα καὶ ἔκειρεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτὸν ἐξ οἰκίας ἧς ἐφυλασσετο,
On the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ χρηστά, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῦ τὸν θρόνον ἐπάνω τῶν βασιλέων τῶν μετʼ αὐτοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι,
And he spoke kindly to Jehoiachin and set his throne above the thrones of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.
καὶ ἥλλαξαν τὴν στολὴν τῆς φυλακῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἡσθιεν ἄρτον διὰ παντὸς κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἂς ἔζησεν.
So Jehoiachin changed out of his prison clothes, and he dined regularly at the king’s table for the rest of his life.
καὶ ἡ σύνταξις αὐτῷ ἐδίδετο διὰ παντὸς παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος ἐξ ἡμέρας εἰς ἡμέραν ἕως ἡμέρας ἧς ἀπέθανεν.
And the king of Babylon provided Jehoiachin a daily portion for the rest of his life, until the day of his death.
