Ainsi parle Yahweh : Voici que je vais soulever contre Babel, et contre les habitants de la Chaldée l'esprit d'un destructeur.
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
Et j'enverrai à Babel des vanneurs qui la vanneront ; et ils videront son pays, car ils fondront de toutes parts sur elle, au jour du malheur.
I will send strangers to Babylon to winnow her and empty her land; for they will come against her from every side in her day of disaster.
Que l'archer tende son arc contre l'archer et contre celui qui se pavane dans sa cuirasse ! N'épargnez pas ses jeunes gens, exterminez toute son armée.
Do not let the archer bend his bow or put on his armor. Do not spare her young men; devote all her army to destruction!
Que des blessés à mort tombent sur la terre des Chaldéens, et des transpercés dans les rues de Babel !
And they will fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans (note: That is, the Babylonians; also in verse 54), and pierced through in her streets.
Car Israël et Juda ne sont pas veuves de leur Dieu, de Yahweh des armées, et le pays des Chaldéens est rempli d'iniquités contre le Saint d'Israël.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
Fuyez du milieu de Babylone, et que chacun de vous sauve sa vie ! Ne périssez pas pour son crime ; car c'est le temps de la vengeance pour Yahweh ; il va lui rendre ce qu'elle a mérité.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
Babel était une coupe d'or dans la main de Yahweh ; elle enivrait toute la terre ; les nations ont bu de son vin, c'est pourquoi les nations sont en délire.
Babylon was a gold cup in the hand of the LORD, making the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.
Soudain Babel est tombée, et s'est brisée ; hurlez sur elle ; prenez du baume pour sa plaie ; peut-être guérira-t-elle !
Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been shattered. Wail for her; get her balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.
" Nous avons voulu guérir Babel, mais elle n'a pas guéri ; laissez-la ! allons chacun dans notre pays ! Car son jugement atteint jusqu'aux cieux, et s'élève jusqu'aux nues. "
“We tried to heal Babylon, but she could not be healed. Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
Yahweh a manifesté la justice de notre cause ; venez et racontons en Sion l'œuvre de Yahweh notre Dieu.
“The LORD has brought forth our vindication; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD our God has accomplished.”
Aiguisez les flèches, couvrez-vous de vos boucliers ! Yahweh a excité l'esprit des rois de Médie ; car son dessein sur Babel est de la détruire. Car c'est là la vengeance de Yahweh, la vengeance de son temple.
Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers (note: LXX and some translations of the Hebrew; literally Fill the hand with the shields! or Take up the shields!)! The LORD has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His plan is aimed at Babylon to destroy her, for it is the vengeance of the LORD—vengeance for His temple.
Elevez l'étendard contre les murs de Babylone ; renforcez le blocus, posez des sentinelles, dressez des embuscades ! Car Yahweh a formé un dessein, il exécute ce qu'il a dit contre les habitants de Babel.
Raise a banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the watchmen; prepare the ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
Toi qui habites au bord des grandes eaux, riche en trésors, ta fin est venue, le terme de tes rapines !
You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
Yahweh des armées l'a juré par lui-même : Je te remplirai d'hommes, comme de sauterelles, et ils pousseront sur toi le cri du triomphe.
The LORD of Hosts has sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will shout in triumph over you.”
Il a fait la terre par sa force, affermi le monde par sa sagesse, et par son intelligence il a étendu les cieux.
The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
A sa voix, les eaux s'amassent dans les cieux ; il fait monter les nuages des extrémités de la terre ; il fait briller les éclairs d'où jaillit l'averse, et tire le vent de ses réservoirs.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
Tout homme est stupide, hors de sens ; tout artisan a honte de son idole, car ses idoles ne sont que mensonge ; il n'y a point de souffle en elles.
Every man is senseless and devoid of knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols. For his molten images are a fraud, and there is no breath in them.
Elles sont une vanité, une œuvre de tromperie ; au jour du châtiment, elles périront.
They are worthless, a work to be mocked. In the time of their punishment they will perish.
Telle n'est point la part de Jacob ; lui, il a formé l'univers ; sa part d'héritage est celui qui se nomme Yahweh des armées.
The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and of the tribe of His inheritance—the LORD of Hosts is His name.
Tu me sers de marteau, d'arme de guerre : par toi je broie des peuples ; par toi je détruis des royaumes ;
“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
par toi je broie le cheval et son cavalier ; par toi je broie le char et celui qui le monte ;
With you I shatter the horse and rider; with you I shatter the chariot and driver.
par toi je broie homme et femme ; par toi je broie vieillard et enfant ; par toi je broie jeune homme et jeune fille ;
With you I shatter man and woman; with you I shatter the old man and the youth; with you I shatter the young man and the maiden.
par toi je broie le berger et son troupeau ; par toi je broie le laboureur et son attelage ; par toi je broie les gouverneurs et les chefs.
With you I shatter the shepherd and his flock; with you I shatter the farmer and his oxen; with you I shatter the governors and officials.
Mais je rendrai à Babylone et à tous les habitants de la Chaldée tout le mal qu'ils ont fait dans Sion, sous vos yeux, — oracle de Yahweh.
Before your very eyes I will repay Babylon and all the dwellers of Chaldea (note: That is, Babylonia; also in verse 35) for all the evil they have done in Zion,” declares the LORD.
Me voici contre toi, montagne de destruction, — oracle de Yahweh qui détruis toute la terre ; j'étends ma main sur toi, je te roule du haut des rochers et je fais de toi une montagne brûlée.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a charred mountain.
On ne tirera de toi ni pierres d'angle, ni pierres pour les fondements, car tu seras à jamais une ruine, — oracle de Yahweh.
No one shall retrieve from you a cornerstone or a foundation stone, because you will become desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
Elevez un étendard sur la terre ; sonnez de la trompette parmi les nations, consacrez les nations contre elle ; appelez contre elle les royaumes d'Ararat, de Menni et d'Ascenez ! Etablissez contre elle un chef d'armée ; lancez les chevaux comme des sauterelles hérissées.
“Raise a banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her. Summon the kingdoms against her—Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like swarming locusts.
Consacrez contre elle les nations, les rois de Médie, ses capitaines et ses chefs, et tout le pays sur lequel ils commandent.
Prepare the nations for battle against her—the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
La terre tremble, elle s'agite ; car le dessein de Yahweh s'accomplit contre Babel, pour changer le pays de Babel en un lieu de terreur, sans habitants.
The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon stand: to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
Les vaillants de Babel ont cessé de combattre ; ils se tiennent dans les forteresses ; leur vigueur est à bout, ils sont devenus comme des femmes. On a mis le feu à ses habitations, on a brisé les barres de ses portes.
The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set ablaze, the bars of her gates are broken.
Les courriers courrent à la rencontre des courriers, les messagers à la rencontre des messagers, pour annonçer au roi de Babel que sa ville est prise de tous côtés.
One courier races to meet another, and messenger follows messenger, to announce to the king of Babylon that his city has been captured from end to end.
Les passages sont occupés, on brûle au feu les marais, et les hommes de guerre sont consternés !
The fords have been seized, the marshes set on fire, and the soldiers are terrified.”
Car ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël : La fille de Babel est comme une aire, au temps où on la foule ; encore un peu, et viendra pour elle le temps de la moisson.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “The Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled. In just a little while her harvest time will come.”
Il m'a dévorée, il m'a consumée, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babel ; il m'a posée là comme un vase vide ; tel qu'un dragon, il m'a engloutie ; il a rempli son ventre de mes meilleurs mets : il m'a chassée.
“Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me. He has set me aside like an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he filled his belly with my delicacies and vomited me out.
Que ma chair déchirée soit sur Babel ! dira le peuple de Sion ; et mon sang sur les habitants de la Chaldée ! dira Jérusalem.
May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” says the dweller of Zion. “May my blood be on the dwellers of Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh : Voici que je prends en main ta cause, et que j'exécute ta vengeance ; je dessécherai sa mer et ferai tarir sa source.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will plead your case and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her springs run dry.
Et Babel sera un monceau de pierres, un repaire de chacals, un sujet de terreur et de moquerie, sans habitants.
Babylon will become a heap of rubble, a haunt for jackals (note: Or serpents or dragons), an object of horror and scorn, without inhabitant.
Ils rugissent tous ensemble comme des lions ; ils grondent comme les petits des lionnes.
They will roar together like young lions; they will growl like lion cubs.
Tandis qu'ils sont en fièvre, je leur verserai un breuvage, et je les enivrerai pour qu'ils se livrent à la joie ; et ils s'endormiront d'un sommeil éternel et ils ne se réveilleront plus, — oracle de Yahweh.
While they are flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them drunk so that they may revel; then they will fall asleep forever and never wake up, declares the LORD.
Je les ferai descendre comme des agneaux à la boucherie, comme des béliers et des boucs.
I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.
Comment a été prise Sésac, a été conquise la gloire de toute la terre ? Comment est-elle devenue un objet de terreur, Babel, parmi les nations ?
How Sheshach (note: Sheshach is a code name for Babylon.) has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!
La mer est montée sur Babel, elle l'a couverte du bruit de ses flots.
The sea has come up over Babylon; she is covered in turbulent waves.
Ses villes sont devenues un objet de terreur, une terre désolée et déserte, une terre où personne ne demeure, où ne passe aucun fils d'homme.
Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and arid land, a land where no one lives, where no son of man passes through.
Je visiterai Bel à Babel ; et je tirerai de sa bouche ce qu'il a englouti ; et les nations n'afflueront plus vers lui. La muraille même de Babel est tombée :
I will punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him spew out what he swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
Sortez du milieu d'elle, ô mon peuple ; et que chacun de vous sauve sa vie, devant l'ardente colère de Yahweh.
Come out of her, My people (note: See Revelation 18:4.)! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Que votre cœur ne défaille point, ne vous effrayez pas des bruits qu'on entendra dans le pays ! Car une année surviendra un bruit, et une année après un autre bruit : il y aura violence dans le pays, tyran contre tyran.
Do not let your heart grow faint, and do not be afraid when the rumor is heard in the land; for a rumor will come one year—and then another the next year—of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent où je visiterai les idoles de Babel, et tout son pays sera confus, et tous ses tués tomberont au milieu d'elle.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire land will suffer shame, and all her slain will lie fallen within her.
Le ciel et la terre et tout ce qu'ils renferment pousseront des cris de joie sur Babel ; car du septentrion viendront sur elle les dévastateurs, — oracle de Yahweh.
Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon because the destroyers from the north will come against her,” declares the LORD.
Babel doit tomber, ô tués d'Israël, comme pour Babel sont tombés les tués de toute la terre.
“Babylon must fall on account of the slain of Israel, just as the slain of all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.
Echappés du glaive, partez, ne vous arrêtez pas ! De la terre lointaine souvenez-vous de Yahweh, et que Jérusalem soit présente à votre cœur !
You who have escaped the sword, depart and do not linger! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come to mind.”
Nous étions confus, car nous avions appris l'outrage ; la honte couvrait nos visages, car des étrangers étaient venus contre le sanctuaire de la maison de Yahweh.
“We are ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où je visiterai ses idoles, et dans tout son pays gémiront ceux qu'on égorge.
“Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.
Quand Babel s'élèverait jusqu'aux cieux, quand elle rendrait inaccessible sa haute forteresse ; par mon ordre lui viendraient des dévastateurs, — oracle de Yahweh.
Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
Une clameur retentit du côté de Babel : grand désastre au pays des Chaldéens !
“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
Car Yahweh dévaste Babel, et il fait cesser son grand bruit ; leurs flots mugissent comme les grandes eaux ; et font entendre leur fracas.
For the LORD will destroy Babylon; He will silence her mighty voice. The waves will roar like great waters; the tumult of their voices will resound.
Car il est venu contre elle, le dévastateur, — contre Babel ; ses guerriers sont pris, leurs arcs sont brisés ; car Yahweh est le Dieu des rétributions, il paiera sûrement !
For a destroyer is coming against her—against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken, for the LORD is a God of retribution; He will repay in full.
J'enivrerai ses princes et ses sages, ses gouverneurs, ses magistrats et ses guerriers, et ils s'endormiront d'un sommeil éternel, et ne se réveilleront plus, — oracle du Roi, dont le nom est Yahweh des armées.
I will make her princes and wise men drunk, along with her governors, officials, and warriors. Then they will fall asleep forever and not wake up,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.
Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées : Les murailles de Babel, si larges, seront complètement rasées, et ses hautes portes seront brûlées. Ainsi les peuples travaillent pour le néant ; et les nations au profit du feu, et ils s'y épuisent.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for nothing; the nations will exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
L'ordre que donna Jérémie, le prophète, à Saraïas, fils de Nérias, fils de Maasias, lorsqu'il se rendit à Babylone avec Sédécias, roi de Juda, la quatrième année de son règne. Saraïas était grand chambellan.
This is the message that Jeremiah the prophet gave to the quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s reign.
Jérémie écrivit dans un livre tous les malheurs qui devaient arriver à Babylone, toutes ces paroles écrites sur Babylone.
Jeremiah had written on a single scroll about all the disaster that would come upon Babylon—all these words that had been written concerning Babylon.
Et Jérémie dit à Saraïas : " Quand tu seras arrivé à Babylone, tu auras soin de lire toutes ces paroles,
And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud,
et tu diras : " Yahweh, toi-même tu as dit au sujet de ce lieu qu'on le détruirait, de telle sorte qu'il n'y aurait plus d'habitant, ni homme, ni bête, mais qu'il serait une solitude pour toujours. "
and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be desolate forever.’
Et quand tu auras achevé de lire ce livre, tu y attacheras une pierre et tu le jetteras au milieu de l'Euphrate,
When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates.
et tu diras : Ainsi s'abîmera Babylone, et elle ne se relèvera pas du malheur que j'amènerai sur elle, et ils tomberont épuisés. " Jusqu'ici les paroles de Jérémie.
Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
