Then all the commanders of the forces, along with Johanan son of Kareah, Jezaniah (note: Hebrew; LXX Azariah; see Jeremiah 43:2.) son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, approached
et dirent à Jérémie, le prophète : " Que notre supplication arrive devant toi ; intercède pour nous auprès de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour tout ce reste de Juda ; car, de beaucoup que nous étions, nous sommes réduits à un petit nombre, comme tes yeux nous voient.
Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you can see with your own eyes.

Pray that the LORD your God will tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do.”

“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers. I will not withhold a word from you.”

Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act upon every word that the LORD your God sends you to tell us.

Et au bout de dix jours, la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jérémie,.
After ten days the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah,
Et il appela Johanan, fils de Carée, tous les chefs des troupes qui étaient avec lui, et tout le peuple, petits et grands ;
and he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.
et il leur dit : Ainsi, parle Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, vers qui vous m'avez envoyé pour présenter devant lui votre supplication :
Jeremiah told them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your petition:
Si vous continuez à demeurer dans ce pays, je vous établirai et ne vous détruirai point, je vous planterai et ne vous arracherai point ; car je me repens du mal que je vous ai fait.
‘If you will indeed stay in this land, then I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you, for I will relent of the disaster I have brought upon you.
Ne craignez pas le roi de Babylone, dont vous avez peur ; ne le craignez point, — oracle de Yahweh, — car je suis avec vous pour vous sauver et vous délivrer de sa main.
Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear; do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you to save you and deliver you from him.
Je vous ferai obtenir compassion, et il aura compassion de vous, et il vous fera retourner dans votre pays.
And I will show you compassion, and he will have compassion on you and restore you to your own land.’
Que si vous dites : Nous ne demeurerons pas dans ce pays, de telle sorte que vous n'obéissiez pas à la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu ;
But if you say, ‘We will not stay in this land,’ and you thus disobey the voice of the LORD your God,
si vous dites : Non ! mais nous irons au pays d'Egypte, où nous ne verrons point de guerre, où nous n'entendrons pas le son de la trompette, où nous ne sentirons pas la faim, et c'est là que nous habiterons, —
and if you say, ‘No, but we will go to the land of Egypt and live there, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the ram’s horn or hunger for bread,’
alors entendez la parole de Yahweh, vous, les restes de Juda : Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël : Si vous tournez vos regards vers l'Egypte pour y aller, et que vous y entriez pour y habiter,
then hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah! This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and reside there,
l'épée que vous craignez vous atteindra là, au pays d'Egypte, et la famine que vous redoutez s'attachera à vous là, en Egypte ; et là vous mourrez.
then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you dread will follow on your heels into Egypt, and you will die there.
Tous ceux qui auront tourné leurs regards vers l'Egypte pour y aller et pour y habiter mourront par l'épée, par la famine et la peste, et il n'y en aura point parmi eux qui survive et qui échappe au mal que je ferai venir sur eux.
So all who resolve to go to Egypt to reside there will die by sword and famine and plague. Not one of them will survive or escape the disaster I will bring upon them.’
Car ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël : Comme ma colère et ma fureur ont fondu sur les habitants de Jérusalem, ainsi ma fureur fondra sur vous quand vous serez entrés en Egypte ; vous serez un objet d'exécration, de stupéfaction, de malédiction et d'outrages, et vous ne reverrez plus ce lieu-ci.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and wrath were poured out on the residents of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of cursing and horror, of vilification and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’
Restes de Juda, Yahweh vous dit : N'entrez point en Egypte ; sachez bien que je vous avertis solennellement aujourd'hui.
The LORD has told you, O remnant of Judah, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ Know for sure that I have warned you today!
Car vous vous abusiez vous-mêmes, lorsque vous m'avez envoyé vers Yahweh, notre Dieu, en disant : Intercède pour nous auprès de Yahweh, notre Dieu, et tout ce que Yahweh, notre Dieu, dira, déclare-le-nous, et nous le ferons.
For you have deceived yourselves by sending me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray to the LORD our God on our behalf, and as for all that the LORD our God says, tell it to us and we will do it.’
Je vous l'ai déclaré aujourd'hui ; mais vous n'avez point écouté la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu, ni rien de ce qu'il m'a envoyé vous communiquer.
For I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in all He has sent me to tell you.
Sachez donc bien maintenant que vous mourrez par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste, au lieu où il vous a plu d'aller pour y habiter. "
Now therefore, know for sure that by sword and famine and plague you will die in the place where you desire to go to reside.”
