Jeremiah 29

Brenton's English Septuagint · Berean Standard Bible

Thus saith the Lord against the Philistines;
47:1 This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet about the Philistines before Pharaoh struck down Gaza.
Behold, waters come up from the north, and shall become a sweeping torrent, and it shall sweep away the land, and its fulness; the city, and them that dwell in it: and men shall cry and all that dwell in the land shall howl,
47:2 This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will wail
at the sound of his rushing, at [the sound of] his hoofs, and at the rattling of his chariots, at the noise of his wheels: the fathers turned not to their children because of the weakness of their hands,
47:3 at the sound of the galloping hooves of stallions, the rumbling of chariots, and the clatter of their wheels. The fathers will not turn back for their sons; their hands will hang limp.
in the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines: and I will utterly destroy Tyre and Sidon, and all the rest of their allies: for the Lord will destroy the remaining [inhabitants] of the islands.
47:4 For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining ally. Indeed, the LORD is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor (note: That is, Crete).
Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ascalon is cast away, and the remnant of the Enakim.
47:5 The people of Gaza will shave their heads in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. O remnant of their valley (note: That is, the Mediterranean coast or plain), how long will you gash yourself?
How long wilt thou smite, O sword of the Lord? how long will it be ere thou art quiet? return into thy sheath, rest, and be removed.
47:6 ‘Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still!’
How shall it be quiet, whereas the Lord has given it a commission against Ascalon, and against the regions on the sea-coast, to awake against the remaining [countries]!
47:7 How can it rest when the LORD has commanded it? He has appointed it against Ashkelon and the shore of its coastland.”
