Ἰδοὺ γὰρ βασιλεὺς δίκαιος βασιλεύσει, καὶ ἄρχοντες μετὰ κρίσεως ἄρξουσιν.
Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.
καὶ ἔσται ὃ ἅνθρωπος κρύπτων τοὺς λόγους τούτους, καὶ κρυβήσεται ὡς ἀφ’ ὕδατος φερομένου· καὶ φανήσεται ἐν Σιὼν ὡς ποταμὸς φερόμενος ἔνδοξος ἐν γῇ διψώσῃ.
Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in a dry land, like the shadow of a great rock in an arid land.
καὶ οὐκέτι ἔσονται πεποιθότες ἐπ᾿ ἀνθρώποις, ἀλλὰ. τὰ. ὦτα δώσουσιν ἀκούειν·
Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen.
καὶ ἡ καρδία τῶν ἀσθενῶν προσέξει τοῦ ἀκούειν, καὶ αἱ γλῶσσαι αἱ ψελλίζουσαι ταχὺ μαθήσονται λαλεῖν εἰρήνην·
The mind of the rash will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will speak clearly and fluently.
καὶ οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ εἴπωσιν τῷ μωρῷ ἄρχειν, καὶ οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ εἴπωσιν οἱ ὑπηρέται σου Σίγα.
No longer will a fool be called noble, nor a scoundrel be respected.
ὁ γὰρ μωρὸς μωρὰ λαλήσει, καὶ ἡ καρδία αὐτῶν μάταια νοήσει, τοῦ συντελεῖν ἄνομα καὶ λαλεῖν πρὸς Κύριον πλάνησιν, τοῦ διαφθεῖραι ψυχὰς πεινώσας, καὶ τὰς ψυχὰς τὰς διψώσας κενὰς ποιῆσαι.
For a fool speaks foolishness; his mind plots iniquity. He practices ungodliness and speaks falsely about the LORD; he leaves the hungry empty and deprives the thirsty of drink.
ἡ γὰρ βουλὴ τῶν πονηρῶν ἄνομα βουλεύεται, καταφθεῖραι ταπεινοὺς ἐν λόγοις ἀδίκοις καὶ διασκεδάσαι λογισμοὺς ταπεινῶν ἐν κρίσει.
The weapons of the scoundrel are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just.
οἱ δὲ εὐσεβεῖς συνετὰ ἐβουλεύσαντο, καὶ αὕτη ἡ βουλὴ μενεῖ.
But a noble man makes honorable plans; he stands up for worthy causes.
Γυναῖκες πλούσιαι, ἀνάστητε καὶ ἀκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου· θυγατέρες ἐν ἐλπίδι, ἀκούσατε τοὺς λόγους μου.
Stand up, you complacent women; listen to me. Give ear to my word, you overconfident daughters.
ἡμέρας ἐνιαυτοῦ μνείαν ποιήσασθε ἐν ὀδύνῃ μετὰ ἐλπίδος· ἀνήλωται ὁ τρυγητός, πέπαυται ὁ σπόρος καὶ οὐκέτι μὴ ἔλθῃ.
In a little more than a year you will tremble, O secure ones. For the grape harvest will fail and the fruit harvest will not arrive.
ἔκστητε, λυπήθητε αἱ πεποιθυῖαι, ἐκδύσασθε, γυμναὶ γένεσθε, περιζώσασθε σάκκους τὰς ὀσφύας,
Shudder, you ladies of leisure; tremble, you daughters of complacency. Strip yourselves bare and put sackcloth around your waists.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν μασθῶν κόπτεσθε, περὶ ἀγροῦ ἐπιθυμήματος καὶ ἀμπέλου γενήματος.
Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines,
ἡ γῆ τοῦ λαοῦ μου, ἄκανθα καὶ χόρτος ἀναβήσεται, καὶ ἐκ πάσης οἰκίας εὐφροσύνη ἀρθήσεται· πόλις πλουσία,
and for the land of my people, overgrown with thorns and briers—even for every house of merriment in this city of revelry.
οἶκοι ἐγκαταλελιμμένοι, πλοῦτον πόλεως καὶ οἴκους ἐπιθυμήτους ἀφήσουσιν· καὶ ἔσονται αἱ κῶμαι σπήλαια ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος, εὐφροσύνη ὄνων ἀγρίων, βοσκήματα ποιμένων,
For the palace will be forsaken, the busy city abandoned. The hill (note: Hebrew The Ophel) and the watchtower will become caves forever—the delight of wild donkeys and a pasture for flocks—
ἕως ἂν ἐπέλθῃ ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς πνῦμα ἀφ᾿ ὑψηλοῦ. καὶ ἔσται ἔρημος ὁ Χερμέλ, καὶ ὁ Χερμὲλ εἰς δρυμὸν λογισθήσεται.
until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high. Then the desert will be an orchard, and the orchard will seem like a forest.
καὶ ἀναπαύσεται ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ κρίμα, καὶ δικαιοσύνη ἐν τῷ Καρμήλῳ κατοικήσει·
Then justice will inhabit the wilderness, and righteousness will dwell in the fertile field.
καὶ ἔσται τὰ. ἔργα τῆς δικαιοσύνης εἰρήνη, καὶ κρατήσει ἡ δικαιοσύνη ἀνάπαυσιν, καὶ πεποιθότες ἔσονται ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος·
The work of righteousness will be peace; the service of righteousness will be quiet confidence forever.
καὶ κατοικήσει ὁ λαὸς αὑτοῦ ἐν πόλει εἰρήνης, καὶ ἐνοικήαἰῶνος· σει πεποιθώς, καὶ ἀναπαύσονται μετὰ πλούτου.
Then my people will dwell in a peaceful place, in safe and secure places of rest.
ἡ δὲ χάλαζα ἐὰν καταβῇ, οὐκ ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς ἥξει. καὶ ἔσονται οἱ ἐνοικοῦντες ἐν τοῖς δρυμοῖς πεποιθότες ὡς οἱ ἐν τῇ πεδινῇ.
But hail will level the forest, and the city will sink to the depths.
μακράριοι οἶ σπείροντες ἐπὶ πᾶν ὕδωρ, οὗ βοῦς καὶ ὄνος πατεῖ.
Blessed are those who sow beside abundant waters, who let the ox and donkey range freely.
