Israel ist ein ausgebreiteter Weinstock, der seine Frucht trägt. Aber soviel Früchte er hatte, so viel Altäre hatte er gemacht; wo das Land am besten war, da stifteten sie die schönsten Bildsäulen.
Israel was a luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for himself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
Ihr Herz ist zertrennt; nun wird sie ihre Schuld finden. Ihre Altäre sollen zerbrochen und ihre Bildsäulen sollen zerstört werden.
Their hearts are devious; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars and demolish their sacred pillars.
Alsdann müssen sie sagen: Wir haben keinen König, denn wir fürchteten den HErrn nicht; was kann uns der König nun helfen?
Surely now they will say, “We have no king, for we do not revere the LORD. What can a king do for us?”
Sie reden und schwören vergeblich und machen einen Bund, und solcher Rat grünt auf allen Furchen im Felde wie giftiges Kraut.
They speak mere words; with false oaths they make covenants. So judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of a field.
Die Einwohner zu Samaria sorgen um das Kalb zu Beth-Aven; denn sein Volk trauert darum, und seine Götzenpfaffen zittern seiner Herrlichkeit halben; denn sie wird von ihnen weggeführt.
The people of Samaria will fear for the calf of Beth-aven (note: Beth-aven means house of wickedness. This is a derogatory term for Bethel, which means house of God; see 1 Kings 12:28–29.). Indeed, its people will mourn over it with its idolatrous priests—those who rejoiced in its glory—for it has been taken from them into exile.
Ja, das Kalb wird nach Assyrien gebracht zum Geschenke dem König Jareb. Also muss Ephraim mit Schanden stehen und Israel schändlich gehen mit seinen Vornehmen.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king (note: Or to King Jareb). Ephraim (note: That is, the northern kingdom of Israel; also in verse 11) will be seized with shame; Israel will be ashamed of its wooden idols (note: Or of its own counsel).
Denn der König zu Samaria ist dahin wie ein Schaum auf dem Wasser.
Samaria will be carried off with her king like a twig on the surface of the water.
Die Höhen zu Aven sind vertilgt, durch die sich Israel versündigte; Disteln und Dornen wachsen auf ihren Altären. Und sie werden sagen: Ihr Berge bedeckt uns! und: Ihr Hügel, fallt über uns!
The high places of Aven (note: Or of wickedness; Aven is a reference to Beth-aven (a derogatory term for Bethel); see verse 5.) will be destroyed—it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us (note: Cited in Luke 23:30; see also Revelation 6:16.)!”
Israel, du hast seit der Zeit Gibeas gesündigt; dabei sind sie auch geblieben. Aber es soll sie ein Streit, nicht gleich dem zu Gibea, ergreifen, so wider die bösen Leute geschah;
Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel, and there you have remained. Did not the battle in Gibeah overtake the sons of iniquity (note: Or Did not the battle overtake the sons of iniquity in Gibeah?)?
sondern ich will sie züchtigen nach meinem Wunsch, dass alle Völker sollen über sie versammelt kommen, wenn ich sie werde strafen um ihre zwei Sünden.
I will chasten them when I please; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bondage for their double transgression.
Ephraim ist ein Kalb, gewöhnt, dass man es gern drischt. Ich will ihm über seinen schönen Hals fahren; ich will Ephraim retten, Juda soll pflügen und Jakob eggen.
Ephraim is a well-trained heifer that loves to thresh; but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will harness Ephraim, Judah will plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
Darum säet euch Gerechtigkeit und erntet Liebe; pflüget ein Neues, weil es Zeit ist, den HErrn zu suchen, bis dass er komme und lasse regnen über euch Gerechtigkeit.
Sow for yourselves righteousness and reap the fruit of loving devotion; break up your unplowed ground. For it is time to seek the LORD until He comes and sends righteousness upon you like rain.
Denn ihr pflüget Böses und erntet Übeltat und esset Lügenfrüchte.
You have plowed wickedness and reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your mighty men,
Weil du dich denn verlässt auf dein Wesen und auf die Menge deiner Helden, so soll sich ein Getümmel erheben in deinem Volk, dass alle deine Festen verstört werden, gleichwie Salman verstörte das Haus Arbeels zur Zeit des Streits, da die Mutter samt den Kindern zu Trümmern ging.
the roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be demolished as Shalman devastated Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when mothers were dashed to pieces along with their children.
Ebenso soll's euch zu Beth-El auch gehen um eurer großen Bosheit willen, dass der König Israels frühmorgens untergehe.
Thus it will be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great wickedness. When the day dawns, the king of Israel will be utterly cut off.
