2:1

Also ward vollendet Himmel und Erde mit ihrem ganzen Heer.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2:2

Und also vollendete Gott am siebenten Tage seine Werke, die er machte, und ruhte am siebenten Tage von allen seinen Werken, die er machte.

And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.

2:3

Und Gott segnete den siebenten Tag und heiligte ihn, darum dass er an demselben geruht hatte von allen seinen Werken, die Gott schuf und machte.

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.

2:4

Also ist Himmel und Erde geworden, da sie geschaffen sind, zu der Zeit, da Gott der HErr Erde und Himmel machte.

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day God made them.

2:5

Und allerlei Bäume auf dem Felde waren noch nicht auf Erden, und allerlei Kraut auf dem Felde war noch nicht gewachsen; denn Gott der HErr hatte noch nicht regnen lassen auf Erden, und es war kein Mensch, der das Land baute.

Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

2:6

Aber ein Nebel ging auf von der Erde und feuchtete alles Land.

welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

2:7

Und Gott der HErr machte den Menschen aus einem Erdenkloß, und er blies ihm ein den lebendigen Odem in seine Nase. Und also ward der Mensch eine lebendige Seele.

Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living .

2:8

Und Gott der HErr pflanzte einen Garten in Eden gegen Morgen und setzte den Menschen hinein, den er gemacht hatte.

And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.

2:9

Und Gott der HErr ließ aufwachsen aus der Erde allerlei Bäume, lustig anzusehen und gut zu essen, und den Baum des Lebens mitten im Garten und den Baum der Erkenntnis des Guten und Bösen.

Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

2:10

Und es ging aus von Eden ein Strom, zu wässern den Garten, und er teilte sich von da in vier Hauptwasser.

Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:

2:11

Das erste heißt Pison, das fließt um das ganze Land Hevila; und daselbst findet man Gold.

The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

2:12

Und das Gold des Landes ist köstlich; und da findet man Bedellion und den Edelstein Onyx.

And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.

2:13

Das andere Wasser heißt Gihon, das fließt um um das ganze Mohrenland.

The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.

2:14

Das dritte Wasser heißt Hiddekel, das fließt vor Assyrien. Das vierte Wasser ist der Euphrat.

The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

2:15

Und Gott der HErr nahm den Menschen und setzte ihn in den Garten Eden, dass er ihn baute und bewahrte.

Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

2:16

Und Gott der HErr gebot dem Menschen und sprach: Du sollst essen von allerlei Bäumen im Garten;

And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden,

2:17

aber von dem Baum der Erkenntnis des Guten und Bösen sollst du nicht essen; denn welches Tages du davon issest, wirst du des Todes sterben.

but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

2:18

Und Gott der HErr sprach: Es ist nicht gut, dass der Mensch allein sei; ich will ihm eine Gehilfin machen, die um ihn sei.

The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

2:19

Denn als Gott der HErr gemacht hatte von der Erde allerlei Tiere auf dem Felde und allerlei Vögel unter dem Himmel, brachte er sie zu dem Menschen, dass er sähe, wie er sie nennte; denn wie der Mensch allerlei lebendige Tiere nennen würde, so sollten sie heißen.

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

2:20

Und der Mensch gab einem jeglichen Vieh und Vogel unter dem Himmel und Tier auf dem Felde seinen Namen; aber für den Menschen ward keine Gehilfin gefunden, die um ihn wäre.

The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. no suitable helper was found.

2:21

Da ließ Gott der HErr einen tiefen Schlaf fallen auf den Menschen, und er schlief ein. Und er nahm seiner Rippen eine und schloss die Stätte zu mit Fleisch.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.

2:22

Und Gott der HErr baute ein Weib aus der Rippe, die er vom Menschen nahm, und brachte sie zu ihm.

And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.

2:23

Da sprach der Mensch: Das ist doch Bein von meinem Bein und Fleisch von meinem Fleisch; man wird sie Männin heißen, darum dass sie vom Manne genommen ist.

And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”

2:24

Darum wird ein Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und an seinem Weibe hangen, und sie werden sein ein Fleisch.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one .

2:25

Und sie waren beide nackt, der Mensch und sein Weib, und schämten sich nicht.

And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
