Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and unto them were sons born after the flood.
This is the account of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, who also had sons after the flood.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites, and the Rodanites (note: SP and some MT manuscripts (see also LXX and 1 Chronicles 1:7); most MT manuscripts Dodanites).
Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
From these, the maritime peoples separated into their territories, according to their languages, by clans within their nations.
And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.
The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan.
The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah (note: Sabtah is a variant of Sabta; see 1 Chronicles 1:9.), Raamah, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
And Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Cush was the father of Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one (note: Or who established himself as a mighty warrior or who became the first fearless leader) on the earth.
He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; wherefore it is said: ‘Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.’
He was a mighty hunter before (note: Or in defiance of; twice in this verse) the LORD; so it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
His kingdom began in Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar (note: That is, Babylonia).
Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,
From that land he went forth into Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
and Resen between Nineveh and Calah—the same is the great city.
and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
And Mizraim begot Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,
Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
and Pathrusim, and Casluhim—whence went forth the Philistines—and Caphtorim.
the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites (note: Some translators adjust the Hebrew word order to the Casluhites, and the Caphtorites (from whom the Philistines came); see also Jeremiah 47:4 and Amos 9:7.).
And Canaan begot Zidon his firstborn, and Heth;
And Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn (note: Or of the Sidonians, the foremost), and of the Hittites,
and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite;
the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite; and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad.

And the border of the Canaanite was from Zidon, as thou goest toward Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, unto Lasha.
and the borders of Canaan extended from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations.
These are the sons of Ham according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
And unto Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born.
And sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth; Shem was the forefather of all the sons of Eber.
The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram.
The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
And the sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

And Arpachshad begot Shelah; and Shelah begot Eber.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah (note: Hebrew; LXX (see also Luke 3:35–36) And Arphaxad was the father of Cainan, and Cainan was the father of Shelah,), and Shelah was the father of Eber.
And unto Eber were born two sons; the name of the one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.
Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg (note: Peleg means division.), because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.
And Joktan begot Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah;
And Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest toward Sephar, unto the mountain of the east.
Their territory extended from Mesha to Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
These are the sons of Shem, according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations; and of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
All these are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their generations and nations. From these the nations of the earth spread out after the flood.
