La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes :
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
" Fils de l'homme, tourne ta face dans la direction de Théman ; fais découler ta parole vers le sud, et prophétise contre la forêt de la campagne du midi ;
“Son of man, set your face against Jerusalem and preach against the sanctuaries. Prophesy against the land of Israel
et dis à la forêt du midi : Ecoute la parole de Yahweh ! Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh : Voici que je vais allumer au milieu de toi un feu, et il dévorera en toi tout arbre vert et tout arbre sec ; la flamme dévorante ne s'éteindra point, et toute face sera brûlée par elle, du midi au septentrion.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Et toute chair verra que c'est moi, Yahweh, qui l'ai allumée, et elle ne s'éteindra pas.
Because I will cut off both the righteous and the wicked, My sword will be unsheathed against everyone from south to north.
Et je dis : " Ah ! Seigneur Yahweh, ils disent de moi : Est-ce qu'il ne parle pas en paraboles ? "
Then all flesh will know that I, the LORD, have taken My sword from its sheath, not to return it again.’
Et la parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes :
But you, son of man, groan! Groan before their eyes with a broken heart and bitter grief.
" Fils de l'homme, tourne ta face vers Jérusalem, et fais découler ta parole vers les lieux saints, et prophétise contre la terre d'Israël.
And when they ask, ‘Why are you groaning?’ you are to say, ‘Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt, and every hand will go limp. Every spirit will faint, and every knee will turn to water.’ Yes, it is coming and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD.”
Dis à la terre d'Israël : Ainsi parle Yahweh : Voici que je viens à toi ; je tirerai mon épée de son fourreau, et j'exterminerai de ton sein juste et méchant.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Et parce que je vais exterminer de ton sein juste et méchant, à cause de cela, mon épée sortira de son fourreau contre toute chair, du midi au septentrion.
“Son of man, prophesy and tell them that this is what the Lord says: ‘A sword, a sword, sharpened and polished—
Et toute chair saura que c'est moi, Yahweh, qui ai tiré mon épée du fourreau ; elle n'y rentrera plus.
it is sharpened for the slaughter, polished to flash like lightning! Should we rejoice in the scepter of My son? The sword despises every such stick.
Et toi, fils de l'homme, gémis ; jusqu'à te rompre les reins avec amertume, gémis devant eux.
The sword is appointed to be polished, to be grasped in the hand. It is sharpened and polished, to be placed in the hand of the slayer.
Et quand ils te diront : pourquoi gémis-tu ? Tu répondras : A cause d'une nouvelle qui arrive. Et tout cœur se fondra, toute main faiblira, tout esprit sera dans le trouble, tout genou s'en ira en eau. Voici qu'elle arrive ; c'est fait, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. "
Cry out and wail, O son of man, for the sword is wielded against My people; it is against all the princes of Israel! They are tossed to the sword with My people; therefore strike your thigh (note: Or beat your breast).
Et la parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes :
Surely testing will come! And what if even the scepter, which the sword despises, does not continue?’ declares the Lord GOD.
" Fils de l'homme, prophétise et dis : Ainsi parle Yahweh : Dis : L'épée, l'épée est aiguisée et fourbie :
‘So then, son of man, prophesy and strike your hands together. Let the sword strike two times, even three. It is a sword that slays, a sword of great slaughter closing in on every side!
c'est pour faire un massacre qu'elle est aiguisée, pour faire briller l'éclair qu'elle est fourbie. Ou bien nous réjouirons-nous en disant : " Le sceptre de mon fils méprise tout bois ? "
So that their hearts may melt and many may stumble, I have appointed at all their gates a sword for slaughter. Yes, it is ready to flash like lightning; it is drawn for slaughter.
On l'a donnée à fourbir pour qu'on la prenne en main ; c'est une épée aiguisée, et elle est fourbie, pour qu'on la mette dans la main de l'égorgeur.
Slash to the right; set your blade to the left—wherever your blade is directed.
Crie et hurle, fils de l'homme, car elle est pour mon peuple, elle est pour tous les princes d'Israël. Ils sont livrés à l'épée avec mon peuple ; frappe donc sur ta cuisse !
I too will strike My hands together, and I will satisfy My wrath.’ I, the LORD, have spoken.”
Car l'épreuve est faite : et quoi donc ? Si ce sceptre continue de mépriser, mes menaces ne se réaliseraient pas, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh !
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Et toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise et frappe main contre main : Que l'épée double, triple ses coups ! C'est l'épée du carnage, l'épée du grand carnage, qui les encercle.
“Now you, son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take, both starting from the same land. And make a signpost where the road branches off to each city.
Pour que les cœurs se fondent, et pour multiplier les victimes, j'ai mis à toutes les portes l'épée meurtrière. Ah ! elle est préparée pour lancer l'éclair, elle est aiguisée pour le carnage !
Mark out one road for the sword to come against Rabbah of the Ammonites, and another against Judah into fortified Jerusalem.
En position à droite ! En place à gauche ! Fais face de tous côtés.
For the king of Babylon stands at the fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an omen: He shakes the arrows, he consults the idols, he examines the liver.
Moi aussi, je frapperai main contre main ; et j'assouvirai mon courroux. Moi, Yahweh, j'ai parlé. "
In his right hand appears the portent for Jerusalem, where he is to set up battering rams, to call for the slaughter, to lift a battle cry, to direct the battering rams against the gates, to build a ramp, and to erect a siege wall.

It will seem like a false omen to the eyes of those who have sworn allegiance to him, but it will draw attention to their guilt and take them captive.
" Toi, fils de l'homme, trace deux chemins par où puisse aller l'épée du roi de Babylone ; que tous deux partent du même pays, et grave un signe, grave-le à l'entrée du chemin d'une ville.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, exposing your transgressions, so that your sins are revealed in all your deeds—because you have come to remembrance—you shall be taken in hand.
Tu traceras un chemin à l'épée pour aller à Rabbath, capitale des fils d'Ammon, ou en Juda, contre Jérusalem, ville forte.
And you, O profane and wicked prince of Israel, the day has come for your final punishment.’
Car le roi de Babylone s'est arrêté au carrefour, à la tête des deux chemins, pour tirer des présages : il secoue les flèches, il interroge les théraphim, il examine le foie.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Remove the turban, and take off the crown. Things will not remain as they are: Exalt the lowly and bring low the exalted.
Dans sa droite est le présage " Jérusalem ", pour dresser des béliers contre les murailles, pour ouvrir une entrée par une brèche, pour pousser à haute voix le cri de guerre, pour dresser des béliers contre les portes, pour élever des terrasses, pour construire des murs.
A ruin, a ruin, I will make it a ruin! And it will not be restored until the arrival of Him to whom it belongs, to whom I have assigned the right of judgment (note: Or of Him to whom it rightfully belongs, to whom I have given it.).’
A leurs yeux, ce n'est qu'une divination mensongère ; ils ont pour eux les serments les plus sacrés ; mais lui les fera souvenir de leurs iniquités lorsqu'ils seront pris.
Now prophesy, son of man, and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says concerning the Ammonites and their contempt: ‘A sword! A sword is drawn for slaughter, polished to consume, to flash like lightning—
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh : Parce que vous avez rappelé votre iniquité en manifestant vos transgressions, en faisant voir vos péchés dans toutes vos actions, parce que vous vous êtes rappelés au souvenir, vous serez pris avec la main.
while they offer false visions for you and lying divinations about you—to be placed on the necks of the wicked who are slain, whose day has come, the time of their final punishment.
Et toi, profane, méchant prince d'Israël, dont le jour est venu, maintenant que l'iniquité est à son terme,
Return the sword to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh : La tiare va être ôtée et la couronne enlevée ; tout sera bouleversé ; ce qui est bas sera élevé, ce qui est haut sera abaissé.
I will pour out My anger upon you; I will breathe the fire of My fury against you; I will hand you over to brutal men, skilled in destruction.
J'en ferai une ruine, une ruine, une ruine ; cela ne sera plus, jusqu'à ce que vienne celui à qui appartient le jugement et à qui je le remettrai.
You will be fuel for the fire. Your blood will stain your own land. You will not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.’”
Et toi, fils de l'homme, prophétise et dis : Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh, contre les fils d'Ammon et au sujet de leurs outrages. Dis : L'épée, l'épée est tirée pour massacrer ; elle est fourbie pour dévorer, pour lancer l'éclair.

— pendant qu'on a pour toi des visions vaines, et des présages menteurs, — pour te placer avec les cadavres des méchants livrés au glaive, dont le jour est venu au temps où l'iniquité est à son terme.
—
Rentre ton épée dans son fourreau ; c'est dans le lieu ou tu as été créé, sur la terre où tu as pris naissance que je te jugerai.
—
Je répandrai sur toi mon courroux ; avec le feu de ma fureur je soufflerai sur toi, et je te livrerai aux mains d'hommes insensés, à des artisans de destruction.
—
Tu seras la pâture du feu, ton sang sera au milieu du pays, on ne se souviendra pas de toi ; car moi, Yahweh, j'ai parlé. "
