Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Εἴσελθε πρὸς Φαραὼ καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτόν τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἐξαπόστειλον τὸν λαόν μου ἵνα μοι λατρεύσωσιν·
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
εἰ δὲ μὴ βούλει σὺ ἐξαποατεῖλαι, ἰδοὺ τύπτω πάντα τὰ ὅριά σου τοῖς βατράχοις.
But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs.
καὶ ἐξερεύξεται ποταμὸς βατράχους· καὶ ἀναβάντες εἰσελεύσονται εἰς τοὺς οἴκους σου καὶ εἰς τὰ ταμεῖα τῶν κοιτώνων σου καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν κλινῶν σου, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς οἴκους τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου, καὶ ἐν τοῖς φυράμασίν σου καὶ ἐν τοῖς κλιβάνοις σου·
The Nile will teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and kneading bowls.
καὶ ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς θεράποντάς σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου ἀναβήσονται οἱ βάτραχοι.
The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your officials.’”
εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Εἰπὸν Ἀαρὼν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου Ἔκτεινον τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον σου ἐπἰ τοὺς ποταμοὺς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς διώρυγας καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἔλη, καὶ ἀνάγαγε τοὺς βατράχους.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers and canals and ponds, and cause the frogs to come up onto the land of Egypt.’”
καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Ἀαρὼν τὴν χεῖρα ἐπὶ τὰ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἀνήγαγεν τοὺς βατράχους· καὶ ἀνεβιβάσθη ὁ βᾶ. τραχος, καὶ ἐκάλυψεν τὴν γῆν Αἰγύπτου.
So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
ἐποίησαν καὶ οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ταῖς Φαρμακίαις αὐτῶν, καὶ γαγον τοὺς βατράχους ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου.
But the magicians did the same thing by their magic arts, and they also brought frogs up onto the land of Egypt.
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Φαραὼ Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν καὶ ἐῖπεν Εῦξασθε περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς κύριον, καὶ περιελέτω τοὺς βατράχους ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐμοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ αὐτοὺς καὶ θύσωσίν τῷ κυρίῳ.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people. Then I will let your people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
εἶπεν δὲ Μωυσῆς πρὸς Φαραώ τάξαι πρὸς μὲ πότε εὔξωμαι περὶ σοῦ καὶ περὶ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου, ἀφανίσαι τοὺς βατράχους ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ σου καὶ ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν ὑμῶν· ἐν τῷ ποταμῷ ὑπολειφθήσονται.
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Εἰς αὔριον. οὖν Ὡς εἴρηκας· ἵνα ἴδῃς ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλος πλὴν Κυρίου·
“Tomorrow,” Pharaoh answered. “May it be as you say,” Moses replied, “so that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.
καὶ περιαιρεθήσονται οἱ βάτραχοι ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν ὑμῶν καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐπαύλεων καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ σου· πλὴν ἐν τῷ ποταμῷ ὑπολειφθήσονται.
The frogs will depart from you and your houses and your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωυσῆς καὶ Ἀαρὼν ἀπὸ Φαραώ· καὶ ἐβόησεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς κύριον περὶ τοῦ ὁρισμοῦ τῶν βατράχων, ὡς ἐτάξατο Φαραώ.
After Moses and Aaron had left Pharaoh, Moses cried out to the LORD for help with the frogs that He had brought against Pharaoh.
ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος καθάπερ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς, καὶ ἐτελεύτησαν οἱ βάτραχοι ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐπαύλεων καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἀγρῶν·
And the LORD did as Moses requested, and the frogs in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields died.
καὶ συνήγαγον αὐτοὺς θιμωνιὰς θιμωνιάς, καὶ ὤζεσεν ἡ γῆ.
They were piled into countless heaps, and there was a terrible stench in the land.
ἰδὼν δὲ Φαραὼ ὅτι γέγονεν ἀνάψυξις, ἐβαρύνθη ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτῶν, καθάπερ ἐλάλησεν κύριος.
When Pharaoh saw that there was relief, however, he hardened (note: Or made heavy; also in verse 32) his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Εἰπὸν Ἀαρών Ἔκτεινον τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον σου καὶ πάταξον τὸ χῶμα τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἔσονται σκνῖφες ἔν τε τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν καὶ ἐν ἡ Αἰγύπτου.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may turn into swarms of gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’”
ἐξέτεινεν οὖν Ἀαρὼν τῇ χειρὶ τὴν ῥάβδον καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸ χῶμα τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖΦες ἐν τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν· καὶ ἐν παντὶ χώματι τῆς γῆς ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖΦες.
This they did, and when Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, gnats came upon man and beast. All the dust of the earth turned into gnats throughout the land of Egypt.
ἐποίησαν δὲ ὡσαύτως καὶ οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ ταῖς Φαρμακίαις αὐτῶν ἐξαγαγεῖν τὸν σκνῖΦα, καὶ οὐκ ἠδύναντο· καὶ ἐγένοντο οἱ σκνῖΦες ἐν τοῖς ἀνθρώποις καὶ ἐν τοῖς τετράποσιν. F
The magicians tried to produce gnats using their magic arts, but they could not. And the gnats remained on man and beast.
εἶπαν οὖν οἱ ἐπαοιδοὶ τῷ Φαραώ Δάκτυλος θεοῦ ἐστὶν τοῦτο· καὶ ἐσκληρύνθη ἡ καρδία Φαραώ, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτῶν, ἐλάλησεν κύριος.
“This is the finger of God,” the magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened (note: Or stiffened or strengthened), and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ὄρθρισον τὸ πρωὶ καὶ στῆθι ἐναντίον Φαραώ· καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὸς ἐξελεύσεται ἐπὶ τὸ ὕδωρ, καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτόν τάδε λέγει κύριος Ἐξαπόστειλον τὸν λαόν μου ἵνα μοι λ'ατρεύσωσιν σὼς ἱν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ·
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, and when Pharaoh goes out to the water, stand before him and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ βούλῃ ἐξαποστἑλͅαι τὸν λαόν μου, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἑπαποστἑλλω ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς θεράποντάς σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν σου καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς οἴκους ὑμῶν κυνόμυιαν, καὶ πλησθήσονται αἱ οἰκίαι τῶν Αἰγυπτίων τῆς κυνομυίης, 2 καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν ἐφ’ ἧς εἰσὶν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς.
But if you will not let My people go, I will send swarms of flies upon you and your officials and your people and your houses. The houses of the Egyptians and even the ground where they stand will be full of flies.
καὶ παραδοξάσω ἐν τῆ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ τὴν γῆν Γέσεμ, ἐφ’ ἧς ὁ λαός μου ἔπεστιν ἐπ’ αὐτῆς, ἐφ’ ἧς οὐκ ἔσται ἐκεῖ ἡ κυνόμυια· ἵνα εἰδῇς ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι κύριος ὁ κύριος πάσης τῆς γῆς.
But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of Goshen, where My people live; no swarms of flies will be found there. In this way you will know that I, the LORD, am in the land.
καὶ δώσω διαστολὴν ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ ἐμοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ σοῦ λαοῦ· ἐν δὲ τῇ αὔριον ἔσται τοῦτο ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
I will make a distinction (note: LXX and Vulgate; Hebrew I will set redemption) between My people and your people. This sign will take place tomorrow.’”
ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος οὕτως, καὶ παρεγένετο ἡ κυνόμυια πλῆθος εἰς τοὺς οἴκους Φαραὼ καὶ εἰς τοὺς οἴκους τῶν θεραπόντων αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Αἰγύπτου· καὶ ἐξωλεθρεύθη ἡ γῆ ἀπὸ τῆς κυνομυίης.
And the LORD did so. Thick swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh’s palace and into the houses of his officials. Throughout Egypt the land was ruined by swarms of flies.
ἐκάλεσεν δὲ Φαραὼ Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν λέγων Ἐλθόντες θύσατε τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ γῇ.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within this land.”
καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς Οὐ δυνατὸν γενέσθαι οὕτως τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, τὰ γὰρ βδελύγματα τῶν Αἰγυπτίων θύσομεν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν· ἐὰν γὰρ θύσωμεν τὰ βδελύγματα τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ἐναντίον αὐτῶν, λιθοβοληθησόμεθα.
But Moses replied, “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
ὁδὸν τριῶν ἡμερῶν πορευσόμεθα εἰς τὴν ἔρημον, καὶ θύσομεν τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν καθάπερ εἶπεν κύριος ἡμῖν.
We must make a three-day journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He commands us.”
καὶ εἶπεν Φαραώ Ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς, καὶ θύσατε τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἀλλ’ οὐ μακρὰν ἀποτενεῖτε πορευθῆναι· εὔξασθε οὖν περὶ ἐμοῦ πρὸς κύριον.
Pharaoh answered, “I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”
εἶπεν δὲ Μωυσῆς ὅδε ἐγὼ ἐξελεύσομαι ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ εὔξομαι πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἀπελεύσεται ἀπὸ σοῦ ἡ κυνόμυια καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου αὔριον· μὴ προσθῇς ἔτι, Φαραώ, ἐξαπατῆσαι τοῦ μὴ ἐξαποστείλαι τὸν λαὸν θῦσαι κυρίῳ.
“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will pray to the LORD, so that tomorrow the swarms of flies will depart from Pharaoh and his officials and his people. But Pharaoh must not act deceitfully again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωυσῆς ἀπὸ Φαραὼ καὶ ηὔξατο πρὸς τὸν θεόν·
Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD,
ἐποίησεν δὲ κύριος καθάπερ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς, καὶ περιεῖλεν τὴν κυνόμυιαν ἀπὸ Φαραὼ καὶ τῶν θεραπόντων αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐ κατεκαι λείφθη οὐδεμία.
and the LORD did as Moses requested. He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not one fly remained.
καὶ ἐβάρυνεν Φαραὼ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ καιροῦ τούτου, καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ἐξαποστεῖλαι τὸν λαόν.
But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time as well, and he would not let the people go.
