Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων Εἴσελθε πρὸς Φαραώ· ἐγὼ γὰρ ἐσκλήρυνα αὐτοῦ τὴν καρδίαν καὶ τῶν θεραπόντων αὐτοῦ, ἵνα ἑξῆς ἐπέλθῃ τὰ σημεῖα ταῦτα ἐπ’ αὐτούς·
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened (note: Or made heavy) his heart and the hearts of his officials, that I may perform these miraculous signs of Mine among them,
ὅπως διηγήσησθε εἰς τὰ δό,τα τῶν τέκνων ὑμῶν καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις τῶν τέκνων ὑμῶν ὅσαἑ μπἑπαιχα τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις, καὶ τὰ σημεῖά μου ἃ ἐποίησα ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγὼ κύριος.
and that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed miraculous signs among them, so that all of you may know that I am the LORD.”
εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Μωυσῆς καὶ Ἀαρὼν ἐναντίον Φαραὼ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῶν Ἐβραίων Ἕως τίνος οὐ βούλει ἐντραπῆναί με; ἐξαπόστειλον τὸν λαόν μου ἵνα λατρεύσωσίν μοι.
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ θέλῃς σὺ ἐξαποστεῖλαι τὸν λαόν μου, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ταύτην τὴν ὥραν αὔριον ἀκρίδα πολλὴν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ὅριά σου·
But if you refuse to let My people go, I will bring locusts into your territory tomorrow.
καὶ καλύψει τὴν ὄψιν τῆς γῆς, καὶ οὐ δυνήσῃ κατιδεῖν τὴν γῆν· καὶ κατέδεται πᾶν τὸ περισσὸν τῆς γῆς τὸ καταλειφθέν, ὃ κατέλιπεν ὑμῖν ἡ χάλαζα, καὶ κατέδεται πᾶν ξύλον τὸ φυόμενον ὑμῖν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς·
They will cover the face of the land so that no one can see it. They will devour whatever is left after the hail and eat every tree that grows in your fields.
καὶ πλησθήσονταί σου αἱ οἰκίαι καὶ αἱ οἰκίαι τῶν θεραπόντων σου καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ οἰκίαι ἐν πάσῃ γῇ τῶν Αἰγυπτίων, ἃ οὐδέποτε ἑωράκασιν οἱ σου οὐδὲ οἱ πρόπαπποι αὐτῶν, ἀφ’ ἧς ἡμέρας γεγόνασιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης. καὶ ἐκκλίνας Μωυσῆς ἐξῆλθεν ἀπὸ Φαραώ.
They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
καὶ λέγουσιν οἱ θεράποντες Φαραὼ πρὸς αὐτόν Ἕως τίνος ἔσται τοῦτο ἡμῖν σκῶλον; ἐξαπόστειλον τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ὅπως λατρεύσωσιν σωσιν τῷ θεῷ αὐτῶν· ἢ εἰδέναι βούλει ὅτι ἀπόλωλεν Αἴγυπτος;
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt lies in ruins?”
καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν τόν τε Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν πρὸς Φαραώ, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς πορεύεσθε καὶ λατρεύσατε τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν· τίνες δὲ καὶ τίνες εἰσὶν οἱ πορευόμενοι;
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But who exactly will be going?”
καὶ λέγει Μωυσῆς Σὺν τοῖς νἔανἴσ’κοις καὶ πρεσβυτέροις πορευσόμεθα, σὺν τοῖς υἱοῖς καὶ θυγατράσιν καὶ προβάτοις καὶ βουσὶν ἡμῶν· ἔστιν γὰρ ἑορτὴ κυρίου.
“We will go with our young and old,” Moses replied. “We will go with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.”
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἔστω οὕτως, Κύριος μεθ’ ὑμῶν· καθότι ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς, μὴ καὶ τὴν ἀποσκευὴν ὑμῶν; ἴδετε, ὅτι πονηρία πρόσκειται ὑμῖν.
Then Pharaoh told them, “May the LORD be with you if I ever let you go with your little ones. Clearly you are bent on evil.
μὴ οὕτως· πορευέσθωσαν δὲ οἱ ἄνδρες καὶ λατρευσάτωσαν τῷ θεῷ· τοῦτο γὰρ αὐτοὶ ἐζητεῖτε. ἐξέβαλον δὲ αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου Φαραώ.
No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, since that is what you have been requesting.” And Moses and Aaron were driven from Pharaoh’s presence.
Εἶπεν δὲ Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρα ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἀναβήτω ἀκρὶς ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ κατέδεται πᾶσαν βοτάνην τῆς γῆς καὶ πάντα τὸν καρπὸν τῶν ξύλων ὃν ὑπελίπετο ἡ χάλαζα.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so that the locusts may swarm over it and devour every plant in the land—everything that the hail has left behind.”
καὶ ἐπῆρεν Μωυσῆς τὴν ῥάβδον εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, καὶ ἐπήγαγεν ἄνεμον νότον ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἐκείνην καὶ ὅλην τὴν νύκτα· τὸ πρωὶ ἐγενήθη, καὶ ὁ ἄνεμος ὁ νότος ἀνέλαβεν τὴν ἀκρίδα
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
καὶ ἀνήγαγεν αὐτὴν ἐπὶ πᾶσαν γῆν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ κατέπαυσεν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ὅρια Αἰγύπτου πολλὴ σφόδρα· προτέρα αὐτῆς οὐ γέγονεν τοιαύτη ἅκ ῥὶς καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα οὐκ ἔσται οὕτως.
The locusts swarmed across the land and settled over the entire territory of Egypt. Never before had there been so many locusts, and never again will there be.
καὶ ἐκάλυψεν τὴν ὄψιν τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἐφθάρη ἡ γῆ· καὶ κατέφαγεν πᾶσαν βοτάνην τῆς γῆς καὶ πάντα τὸν καρπὸν τῶν ξύλων ὃς ὑπελείφθη ἀπὸ τῆς χαλάζης· οὐχ ὑπελείΦ οὐδὲν ἐν τοῖς ξύλοις καὶ ἐν πάσῃ βοτάνη πεδίου ἐν γῇ
They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
κατέσπευδεν δὲ Φαραὼ καλέσαι Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν λέγων Ἡμάρτηκα ἐναντίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ εἰς ὑμᾶς·
Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
προσδέξασθε οὖν μου τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ἔτι νῦν, καὶ προσεύξασθε πρὸς Τύριον τὸν θεὸν ὐμῶν, καὶ περιελέτω ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ τὸν θάνατον τοῦτον.
Now please forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.”
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωυσῆς ἀπὸ Φαραὼ καὶ ηὔξατο πρὸς τὸν θεόν.
So Moses left Pharaoh’s presence and appealed to the LORD.
καὶ κύριος ἄνεμον ἀπὸ θαλάσσης σφοδρόν, καὶ ἀνέλαβεν τὴν ἀκρίδα καὶ ἔβαλεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὴν ἐρυθρὰν θάλασσαν· καὶ οὐχ ὑπελείφθη ἀκρὶς μία ἐν πάσῃ γῇ Αἰγύπτου.
And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and blew them into the Red Sea (note: Or the Sea of Reeds). Not a single locust remained anywhere in Egypt.
καὶ ἐσκλήρυνεν Κύριος τὴν καρδίαν Φαραώ, καὶ οὐκ ἐξαπέστειλεν τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραήλ.
But the LORD hardened (note: Or stiffened or strengthened; also in verse 27) Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go.
Εἶπεν δὲ κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρά σου εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, καὶ γενηθήτω σκότος ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου, ψηλαφητὸν σκότος.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt—a palpable darkness.”
ἐξέτεινεν δὲ Μωυσῆς τὴν χεῖρα εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, καὶ ἐγένετο σκότος γνόφος θύελλα ἐπὶ πᾶσαν γῆν Αἰγύπτου τρεῖς ἡμέρας.
So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and total darkness covered all the land of Egypt for three days.
καὶ οὐκ εἶδεν οὐδεὶς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ τρεῖς ἡμέρας, καὶ οὐκ ἐξανέστη οὐδεὶς ἐκ τῆς κοίτης αὐτοῦ τρεῖς ἡμέρας· πᾶσι δὲ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ φῶς ἦν ἐν πᾶσιν οἷς κατεγίνοντο.
No one could see anyone else, and for three days no one left his place. Yet all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Φαραὼ Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν λέγων βαδίζετε λατρεύσατε Κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν· πλὴν τῶν π τῶν καὶ τῶν βοῶν ὑπολίπεσθε, καὶ ἡ ἀποσκευὴ ὑμῶ μεθ’ ὑμῶν.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your little ones may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”
καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς Ἀλλὰ καὶ σὺ δώσεις ἡμῖν ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ θυσίας ἃ ποιήσομεν Κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν,
But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
καὶ τὰ κτήνη ἡμῶν πορεύσεται μεθ’ ἡμῶν, καὶ οὐχ ὑπολειΦθησόμεθα ὁπλήν. ἀπ’ αὐτῶν γὰρ λημψόμεθα λατρεὗσαι κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν· ἡμεῖς δὲ οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί λατρεύσωμεν κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν ἡμᾶς ἐκεῖ.
Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we will need some of them to worship the LORD our God, and we will not know how we are to worship the LORD until we arrive.”
ἐσκλήρυνεν δὲ κύριος τὴν καρδίαν Φαραώ, καὶ οὐκ ἐβουλήθη ἐξαποστεῖλαι αὐτούς.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to let them go.
καὶ λέγει Φαραώ Ἄπελθε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ, πρόσεχε σεαυτῷ ἔτι προσθεῖναι ἰδεῖν μου τὸ πρόσωπον· ἧ δ’ ἂν ἡμέρᾳ ὀφθῇς μοι, ἀποθανῇ.
“Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
λέγει δὲ Μωσῆς Εἴρηκας· οὐκέτι ὀφθήσομαί σοι εἰς πρόσωπον.
“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
