Und am dritten Tage zog sich Esther königlich an und trat in den inneren Hof am Hause des Königs gegenüber dem Hause des Königs. Und der König saß auf seinem königlichen Stuhl im königlichen Hause, gegenüber der Tür des Hauses.
On the third day, Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.
Und da der König sah Esther, die Königin, stehen im Hofe, fand sie Gnade vor seinen Augen. Und der König reckte das goldene Zepter in seiner Hand gegen Esther. Da trat Esther herzu und rührte die Spitze des Zepters an.
As soon as the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she found favor in his sight. The king extended the gold scepter in his hand toward Esther, and she approached and touched the tip of the scepter.
Da sprach der König zu ihr: Was ist dir, Esther, Königin? und was forderst du? Auch die Hälfte des Königreichs soll dir gegeben werden.
“What is it, Queen Esther?” the king inquired. “What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given to you.”
Esther sprach: Gefällt es dem König, so komme der König und Haman heute zu dem Mahl, das ich zugerichtet habe.
“If it pleases the king,” Esther replied, “may the king and Haman come today to the banquet I have prepared for the king.”
Der König sprach: Eilet, dass Haman tue, was Esther gesagt hat! Da nun der König und Haman zu dem Mahl kamen, das Esther zugerichtet hatte,
“Hurry,” commanded the king, “and bring Haman, so we can do as Esther has requested.” So the king and Haman went to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
sprach der König zu Esther, da er Wein getrunken hatte: Was bittest du, Esther? Es soll dir gegeben werden. Und was forderst du? Auch die Hälfte des Königreichs, es soll geschehen.
And as they drank their wine, the king said to Esther, “What is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be fulfilled.”
Da antwortete Esther und sprach: Meine Bitte und Begehr ist:
Esther replied, “This is my petition and my request:
Habe ich Gnade gefunden vor dem König, und so es dem König gefällt mir zu geben eine Bitte und zu tun mein Begehren, so komme der König und Haman zu dem Mahl, das ich für sie zurichten will; so will ich morgen Tun, was der König gesagt hat.
If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, may the king and Haman come tomorrow to the banquet I will prepare for them. Then I will answer the king’s question.”
Da ging Haman des Tages hinaus fröhlich und gutes Muts. Und da er sah Mardochai im Tor des Königs, dass er nicht aufstand noch sich vor ihm bewegte, ward er voll Zorns über Mardochai.
That day Haman went out full of joy and glad of heart. At the king’s gate, however, he saw Mordecai, who did not rise or tremble in fear at his presence. And Haman was filled with rage toward Mordecai.

Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home. And calling for his friends and his wife Zeresh,
und zählte ihnen auf die Herrlichkeit seines Reichtums und die Menge seiner Kinder und alles, wie ihn der König so groß gemacht hätte und dass er über die Fürsten und Knechte des Königs erhoben wäre.
Haman recounted to them his glorious wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored and promoted him over the other officials and servants.
Auch sprach Haman: Und die Königin Esther hat niemand kommen lassen mit dem König zum Mahl, das sie zugerichtet hat, als mich; und ich bin morgen auch zu ihr geladen mit dem König.
“What is more,” Haman added, “Queen Esther invited no one but me to join the king at the banquet she prepared, and I am invited back tomorrow along with the king.
Aber an dem allem habe ich keine Genüge, solange ich sehe den Juden Mardochai am Königstor sitzen.
Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
Da sprachen zu ihm sein Weib Seres und alle Freunde: Man mache einen Baum, fünfzig Ellen hoch, und morgen sage dem König, dass man Mardochai daran hänge; so kommst du mit dem König fröhlich zum Mahl. Das gefiel Haman wohl, und er ließ einen Baum zurichten.
His wife Zeresh and all his friends told him, “Have them build a gallows fifty cubits high (note: 50 cubits is approximately 75 feet or 22.9 meters high.), and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and enjoy yourself.” The advice pleased Haman, and he had the gallows constructed.
