Jette ton pain sur la face des eaux, car avec le temps tu le retrouveras;
Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.
donnes-en une part à sept et même à huit, car tu ne sais pas quel malheur peut arriver sur la terre.
Divide your portion among seven, or even eight, for you do not know what disaster may befall the land.
Quand les nuages sont pleins de pluie, ils la répandent sur la terre; et si un arbre tombe, au midi ou au nord, il reste à la place où il est tombé.
If the clouds are full, they will pour out rain upon the earth; whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
Celui qui observe le vent ne sèmera point, et celui qui regarde les nuages ne moissonnera point.
He who watches the wind will fail to sow, and he who observes the clouds will fail to reap.
Comme tu ne sais pas quel est le chemin du vent, ni comment se forment les os dans le ventre de la femme enceinte, tu ne connais pas non plus l’œuvre de Dieu qui fait tout.
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
Dès le matin sème ta semence, et le soir ne laisse pas reposer ta main; car tu ne sais point ce qui réussira, ceci ou cela, ou si l’un et l’autre sont également bons.
Sow your seed in the morning, and do not rest your hands in the evening, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or if both will equally prosper.
La lumière est douce, et il est agréable aux yeux de voir le soleil.
Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
Si donc un homme vit beaucoup d’années, qu’il se réjouisse pendant toutes ces années, et qu’il pense aux jours de ténèbres qui seront nombreux; tout ce qui arrivera est vanité.
So if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is futile.
