ΛΟΓΟΙ Ἀμὼς οἱ ἐγένοντο ἐν Ἀκκαρεὶμ ἐν Θεκοῦε, οὓς εἶδεν ὑπέρ Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἐν ἡμέραις Οζείου βασιλέως Ἰούδα καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις Ἰεροβοὰμ τοῦ Ἰωὰς βασιλέως Ἰσραήλ, πρὸ δύο ἐτῶν τοῦ σεισμοῦ.
These are the words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders (note: Or sheep breeders) of Tekoa—what he saw concerning Israel two years (note: Or during the two years) before the earthquake, in the days when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash (note: Hebrew Joash, a variant of Jehoash) was king of Israel.
Καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος ἐκ Σιὼν ἐφθέγξατο, καὶ ἐξ Ἰερουσαλήμ ἔδωκεν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπένθησαν αἱ νομαὶ τῶν ποιμένων, καὶ ἐξηράνθη ἡ κορυφὴ τοῦ Καρμήλου.
He said: “The LORD roars from Zion and raises His voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the summit of Carmel withers.”
Καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος Ἐπὶ ταῖς τρισὶν ἀσεβείαις Δαμασκοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς τέσσαρσιν οὐκ ἀποστραφήσομαι αὐτόν, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἔπριζον πρίοσιν σιδηροῖς τὰς ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσας τῶν ἐν Γαλαάδ·
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Damascus, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they threshed Gilead with sledges of iron.
καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ πῦρ εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ἁζαήλ, καὶ καταφάγεται θεμέλια υἱοῦ Ἁδέρ·
So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael to consume the citadels of Ben-hadad.
καὶ συντρίψω μοχλοὺς Δαμασκοῦ, καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω κατοικοῦντας ἐκ πεδίου Ὤν, καὶ κατακόψω φυλὴν ἐξ ἀνδρῶν Χάρράν, καὶ αἰχμαλωτευθήσεται λαὸς Συρίας ἐπίκλητος, λέγει Κύριος.
I will break down the gates of Damascus; I will cut off the ruler (note: Or the inhabitants) from the Valley of Aven (note: Aven means wickedness.) and the one who wields the scepter in Beth-eden. The people of Aram will be exiled to Kir,” says the LORD.
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἐπὶ ταῖς τρισὶν ἀσεβείαις Γάζης καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς τέσσαρσιν οὐκ ἀποστραφήσομαι αὐτούς, ἕνεκεν τοῦ αἰχμαλωτεῦσαι αὐτοὺς αἰχμαλωσίαν τοῦ Σαλωμών, τοῦ συγκλεῖσαι εἰς τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν·
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Gaza, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they exiled a whole population, delivering them up to Edom.
καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ πῦρ ἐπὶ τὰ τείχη Γάζης, καὶ καταφάγεται θεμέλια αὐτῆς.
So I will send fire upon the walls of Gaza, to consume its citadels.
καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω κατοικοῦντας ἐξ Ἀζώτου, καὶ ἐξαρθήσεται φυλὴ ἐξ Ἀσκάλωνος, καὶ ἐπάξω τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ Ἀκκαρών, καὶ ἀπολοῦνται οἱ κατάλοιποι τῶν ἀλλοφύλων, λέγει Κύριος.
I will cut off the ruler of Ashdod and the one who wields the scepter in Ashkelon. I will turn My hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish,” says the Lord GOD.
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἐπὶ ταῖς τρισὶν ἀσεβείαις Γύρου καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς τέσσαρσιν οὐκ ἀποστραφήσομαι αὐτήν, ἀνθʼ ὧν συνέκλεισαν αἰχμαλωσίαν τοῦ Σαλωμὼν εἰς τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν, καὶ οὐκ ἐμνήσθησαν διαθήκης ἀδελφῶν·
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Tyre, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they delivered up a whole congregation of exiles to Edom and broke a covenant of brotherhood.
καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ πῦρ ἐπὶ τὰ τείχη Τύρου, καὶ καταφάγεται τὰ θεμέλια αὐτῆς.
So I will send fire upon the walls of Tyre to consume its citadels.”
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἐπὶ ταῖς τρισὶν ἀσεβείαις τῆς Ἰδουμαίας καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς τέσσαρσιν οὐκ ἀποστραφήσομαι αὐτούς, ἕνεκα τοῦ διῶξαι αὐτοὺς ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλυμήνατο μητέρα ἐπὶ γῆς. καὶ ἥρπασεν εἰς μαρτύριον φρίκην αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸ ὅρμημα αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξεν εἰς νῖκος·
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Edom, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and stifled all compassion; his anger raged continually, and his fury flamed incessantly.
καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ πῦρ εἰς Θαιμάν, καὶ καταφάγεται θεμέλια τειχέων αὐτῆς.
So I will send fire upon Teman to consume the citadels of Bozrah.”
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἐπὶ ταῖς τρισὶν ἀσεβείαις υἱῶν Ἀμμὼν καὶ ἐπὶ ταῖς τέσσαρσιν οὐκ ἀποστραφήσομαι αὐτόν, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἀνέσχιζον τὰς ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσας τῶν Γαλααδειτῶν, ὅπως ἐνπλατύνωσιν τὰ ὅρια ἑαυτῶν·
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, even four, I will not revoke My judgment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their territory.
καὶ ἀνάψω πῦρ ἐπὶ τὰ τείχη Ῥαββά, καὶ καταφάγεται θεμέλια αὐτῆς μετὰ κραυγῆς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ πολέμου, καὶ σεισθήσεται ἐν ἡμέραις συντελείας αὐτῆς·
So I will kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah to consume its citadels amid war cries on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of tempest.
καὶ πορεύσονται οἱ βασιλεῖς αὐτῆς ἐν αἰχμαλωσίᾳ, οἱ ἱερεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό, λέγει Κύριος.
Their king will go into exile (note: Possibly Milcom will go into exile; Milcom, also called Molech, was god of the Ammonites; see Leviticus 18:21 and 1 Kings 11:7.)—he and his princes together,” says the LORD.
