Es traf sich aber, dass daselbst ein heilloser Mann war, der hieß Seba, ein Sohn Bichris, ein Benjaminiter; der blies die Posaune und sprach: Wir haben keinen Teil an David noch Erbe am Sohn Isais. Ein jeglicher hebe sich zu seiner Hütte, o Israel!
Now a worthless man named Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjamite, happened to be there, and he blew the ram’s horn and shouted: “We have no share in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Every man to his tent, O Israel!”
Da fiel von David jedermann in Israel, und sie folgten Seba, dem Sohn Bichris. Aber die Männer Judas hingen an ihrem König vom Jordan an bis gen Jerusalem.
So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
Da aber der König David heimkam gen Jerusalem, nahm er die zehn Kebsweiber, die er hatte zurückgelassen, das Haus zu bewahren, und tat sie in eine Verwahrung und versorgte sie; aber er ging nicht zu ihnen ein. Und sie waren also verschlossen bis an ihren Tod und lebten als Witwen.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.
Und der König sprach zu Amasa: Berufe mir alle Männer in Juda auf den dritten Tag, und du sollst auch hier stehen!
Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.”
Und Amasa ging hin, Juda zu berufen; aber er verzog die Zeit, die er ihm bestimmt hatte.
So Amasa went to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time allotted him.
Da sprach David zu Abisai: Nun wird uns Seba, der Sohn Bichris, mehr Leides tun denn Absalom. Nimm du die Knechte deines Herrn und jage ihm nach, dass er nicht etwa für sich feste Städte finde und entrinne aus unsren Augen.
And David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us (note: Or and snatch away our eyes or and do us serious harm) more harm than Absalom. Take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us.”
Da zogen aus, ihm nach, die Männer Joabs, dazu die Kreter und Plether und alle Starken. Sie zogen aber aus von Jerusalem, nachzujagen Seba, dem Sohn Bichris.
So Joab’s men, along with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, marched out of Jerusalem in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.

And while they were at the great stone in Gibeon, Amasa joined them. Now Joab was dressed in military attire, with a dagger strapped to his belt. And as he stepped forward, he slipped the dagger from its sheath (note: Literally Now Joab was dressed in military attire, and over it was a belt around his waist with a dagger in its sheath. And as he stepped forward, it fell out.).
Und Joab sprach zu Amasa: Friede sei mit dir, mein Bruder! Und Joab fasste mit seiner rechten Hand Amasa bei dem Bart, dass er ihn küsste.
“Are you well, my brother?” Joab asked Amasa. And with his right hand Joab grabbed Amasa by the beard to kiss him.
Und Amasa hatte nicht acht auf das Schwert in der Hand Joabs; und er stach ihn damit in den Bauch, dass sein Eingeweide sich auf die Erde schüttete, und gab ihm keinen Stich mehr und er starb. Joab aber und sein Bruder Abisai jagten nach Seba, dem Sohn Bichris.
Amasa was not on guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach and spilled out his intestines on the ground. And Joab did not need to strike him again, for Amasa was dead. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.
Und es trat ein Mann von den Leuten Joabs neben ihn und sprach: Wer's mit Joab hält und für David ist, der folge Joab nach!
One of Joab’s young men stood near Amasa and said, “Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!”
Amasa aber lag im Blut gewälzt mitten auf der Straße. Da aber der Mann sah, dass alles Volk da stehenblieb, wandte er Amasa von der Straße auf den Acker und warf Kleider auf ihn, weil er sah, dass, wer an ihn kam, stehenblieb.
But Amasa wallowed in his blood in the middle of the road, and when the man saw that all the troops were stopping there, he dragged the body off the road into a field and threw a garment over it.
Da er nun aus der Straße getan war, folgte jedermann Joab nach, Seba, dem Sohn Bichris, nachzujagen.
As soon as Amasa’s body was removed from the road, all the men went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bichri.
Und er zog durch alle Stämme Israels gen Abel und Beth-Maacha und ganz Haberim; und versammelten sich und folgten ihm nach
Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel-beth-maacah and through the entire region of the Berites (note: Hebrew; LXX and Vulgate Bicrites), who gathered together and followed him.
und kamen und belagerten ihn zu Abel-Beth-Maacha und schütteten einen Wall gegen die Stadt hin, dass er bis an die Vormauer langte; und alles Volk, das mit Joab war, stürmte und wollte die Mauer niederwerfen.
And Joab’s troops came and besieged Sheba in Abel-beth-maacah and built a siege ramp against the outer rampart of the city. As all the troops with Joab were battering the wall to topple it,
Da rief eine weise Frau aus der Stadt: Hört! hört! Sprecht zu Joab, dass er hierher komme; ich will mit ihm reden.
a wise woman called out from the city, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come here so that I may speak with him.”
Und da er zu ihr kam, sprach die Frau: Bist du Joab? Er sprach: Ja. Sie sprach zu ihm: Höre die Rede deiner Magd. Er sprach: Ich höre.
When he had come near to her, the woman asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he replied. “Listen to the words of your servant,” she said. “I am listening,” he answered.
Sie sprach: Vorzeiten sprach man: Wer fragen will, der frage zu Abel; und so ging's wohl aus.
Then the woman said, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Seek counsel at Abel,’ and that is how disputes were settled.
Ich bin eine von den friedsamen und treuen Städten in Israel; und du willst die Stadt und Mutter in Israel töten? Warum willst du das Erbteil des HErrn verschlingen?
I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel, but you are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the LORD’s inheritance?”
Joab antwortete und sprach: Das sei ferne, das sei ferne von mir, dass ich verschlingen und verderben sollte! Es steht nicht also;
“Far be it!” Joab declared. “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy!
sondern ein Mann vom Gebirge Ephraim mit Namen Seba, der Sohn Bichris, hat sich empört wider den König David. Gebt ihn allein her, so will ich von der Stadt ziehen. Die Frau aber sprach zu Joab: Siehe, sein Haupt soll zu dir über die Mauer geworfen werden.
That is not the case. But a man named Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”
Und die Frau kam hinein zu allem Volk mit ihrer Weisheit. Und sie hieben Seba, dem Sohn Bichris, den Kopf ab und warfen ihn zu Joab. Da blies er die Posaune, und sie zerstreuten sich von der Stadt, ein jeglicher in seine Hütte. Joab aber kam wieder gen Jerusalem zum König.
Then the woman went to all the people with her wise counsel, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the ram’s horn and his men dispersed from the city, each to his own home. And Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.
Joab aber war über das ganze Heer Israels. Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, war über die Kreter und Plether.
Now Joab was over the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites;
Adoram war Rentmeister. Josaphat, der Sohn Ahiluds, war Kanzler.
Adoram (note: Adoram is a variant of Adoniram and Hadoram; see 1 Kings 4:6 and 2 Chronicles 10:18.) was in charge of the forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;

Sheva (note: Sheva is also called Seraiah, Shisha, and Shavsha; see 2 Samuel 8:17, 1 Kings 4:3, and 1 Chronicles 18:16.) was the scribe; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
dazu war Ira, der Jairiter, Davids Priester.
and Ira the Jairite (note: Hebrew; some LXX manuscripts and Syriac Ithrite; see 2 Samuel 23:38.) was David’s priest.
