Die Kinder der Propheten sprachen zu Elisa: Siehe, der Raum, da wir vor dir wohnen, ist uns zu enge.
Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “Please take note that the place where we meet with you is too small for us.
Lass uns an den Jordan gehen und einen jeglichen daselbst Holz holen, dass wir uns daselbst eine Stätte bauen, da wir wohnen. Er sprach: Gehet hin!
Please let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a place to live there.” “Go,” said Elisha.
Und einer sprach: Gehe lieber mit deinen Knechten! Er sprach: Ich will mitgehen.
Then one of them said, “Please come with your servants.” “I will come,” he replied.
Und er kam mit ihnen. Und da sie an den Jordan kamen hieben sie Holz ab.
So Elisha went with them, and when they came to the Jordan, they began to cut down some trees.
Und da einer sein Holz fällte, fiel das Eisen ins Wasser. Und er schrie und sprach: O weh, mein Herr! dazu ist's entlehnt.
As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water. “Oh, my master,” he cried out, “it was borrowed!”
Aber der Mann Gottes sprach: Wo ist's entfallen? Und da er ihm den Ort zeigte, schnitt er ein Holz ab und stieß es dahin. Da schwamm das Eisen.
“Where did it fall?” asked the man of God. And when he showed him the place, the man of God cut a stick, threw it there, and made the iron float.
Und er sprach: Heb's auf! da reckte er seine Hand aus und nahm's.
“Lift it out,” he said, and the man reached out his hand and took it.
Und der König von Syrien führte einen Krieg wider Israel und beratschlagte sich mit seinen Knechten und sprach: Wir wollen uns lagern da und da.
Now the king of Aram was at war against Israel. After consulting with his servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
Aber der Mann Gottes sandte zum König Israels und ließ ihm sagen: Hüte dich, dass du nicht an dem Ort vorüberziehst; denn die Syrer ruhen daselbst.
Then the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful not to pass by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.”
So sandte denn der König Israels hin an den Ort, den ihm der Mann Gottes gesagt und vor dem er ihn gewarnt hatte, und war daselbst auf der Hut; und tat das nicht einmal oder zweimal allein.
So the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
Da ward das Herz des Königs von Syrien voll Unmuts darüber, und er rief seine Knechte und sprach zu ihnen: Wollt ihr mir denn nicht ansagen: Wer von den Unsren hält es mit dem König Israels?
For this reason the king of Aram became enraged and called his servants to demand of them, “Tell me, which one of us is on the side of the king of Israel?”
Da sprach seiner Knechte einer: Nicht also, mein Herr König; sondern Elisa, der Prophet in Israel, sagt alles dem König Israels, was du in der Kammer redest, da dein Lager ist.
But one of his servants replied, “No one, my lord the king. For Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.”
Er sprach: So gehet hin und sehet, wo er ist, dass ich hinsende und lasse ihn holen. Und sie zeigten ihm an und sprachen: Siehe, er ist zu Dothan.
So the king said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send men to capture him.” On receiving the report, “Elisha is in Dothan,”
Da sandte er hin Rosse und Wagen und eine große Macht. Und da sie bei der Nacht hinkamen, umgaben sie die Stadt.
the king of Aram sent horses, chariots, and a great army. They went there by night and surrounded the city.
Und der Diener des Mannes Gottes stand früh auf, dass er sich aufmachte und auszöge; und siehe, da lag eine Macht um die Stadt mit Rossen und Wagen. Da sprach sein Diener zu ihm: O weh, mein Herr! wie wollen wir nun tun?
When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early in the morning, behold, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?”
Er sprach: Fürchte dich nicht! denn derer ist mehr, die bei uns sind, als derer, die bei ihnen sind.
“Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Und Elisa betete und sprach: HErr, öffne ihm die Augen, dass er sehe! Da öffnete der HErr dem Diener die Augen, dass er sah; und siehe, da war der Berg voll feuriger Rosse und Wagen um Elisa her.
Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Und da sie zu ihm hinabkamen, bat Elisa und sprach: HErr, schlage dies Volk mit Blindheit! Und er schlug sie mit Blindheit nach dem Wort Elisas.
As the Arameans came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Please strike these people with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.
Und Elisa sprach zu Ihnen: Dies ist nicht der Weg noch die Stadt. Folget mir nach! ich will euch führen zu dem Mann, den ihr sucht. Und er führte sie gen Samaria.
And Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria.
Und da sie gen Samaria kamen, sprach Elisa: HErr, öffne diesen die Augen, dass sie sehen! Und der HErr öffnete ihnen die Augen, dass sie sahen; und siehe, da waren sie mitten in Samaria.
When they had entered Samaria, Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their eyes, and they looked around and discovered that they were in Samaria.
Und der König Israels, da er sie sah, sprach er zu Elisa: Mein Vater, soll ich sie schlagen?
And when the king of Israel saw them, he asked Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?”
Er sprach: Du sollst sie nicht schlagen. Schlägst du denn die, welche du mit deinem Schwert und Bogen gefangen hast? Setze ihnen Brot und Wasser vor, dass sie essen und trinken, und lass sie zu ihrem Herrn ziehen!
“Do not kill them,” he replied. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and then return to their master.”
Da ward ein großes Mahl zugerichtet. Und da sie gegessen und getrunken hatten, ließ er sie gehen, dass sie zu ihrem Herrn zogen. Seit dem kamen streifende Rotten der Syrer nicht mehr ins Land Israel.
So the king prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. And the Aramean raiders did not come into the land of Israel again.
Nach diesem begab sich's, dass Benhadad, der König von Syrien all sein Heer versammelte und zog herauf und belagerte Samaria.
Some time later, Ben-hadad king of Aram assembled his entire army and marched up to besiege Samaria.
Und es ward eine große Teuerung zu Samaria. Sie aber belagerten die Stadt, bis dass ein Eselskopf achtzig Silberlinge und ein viertel KabEin Kab entspricht dem 18. Teil eines Epha, also etwa 2 Litern Taubenmist fünf Silberlinge galt.
So there was a great famine in Samaria. Indeed, they besieged the city so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels (note: 5 shekels is approximately 2 ounces or 57 grams of silver.)ss="annot-tooltip" tabindex="0" data-tooltip="80 shekels is approximately 2 pounds or 907.2 grams of silver." title="80 shekels is approximately 2 pounds or 907.2 grams of silver.">of silver (note: 80 shekels is approximately 2 pounds or 907.2 grams of silver.), and a quarter cab of dove’s dung (note: Or a quarter cab of seed pods; that is, approximately 0.28 dry quarts or 0.31 liters) sold for five shekels of silver.
Und da der König Israels an der Mauer einherging, schrie ihn ein Weib an und sprach: Hilf mir, Mein König!
As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, “Help me, my lord the king!”
Er sprach: Hilft dir der HErr nicht, woher soll ich dir helfen? von der Tenne oder der Kelter?
He answered, “If the LORD does not help you, where can I find help for you? From the threshing floor or the winepress?”
Und der König sprach zu Ihr: Was ist dir? Sie sprach: Dies Weib sprach zu mir: Gib deinen Sohn her, dass wir heute essen; morgen wollen wir meinen Sohn essen.
Then the king asked her, “What is the matter?” And she answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son, that we may eat him, and tomorrow we will eat my son.’
So haben wir meinen Sohn gekocht und gegessen. Und ich sprach zu ihr am andern Tage: Gib deinen Sohn her und lass uns essen! Aber sie hat ihren Sohn versteckt.
So we boiled my son and ate him, and the next day I said to her, ‘Give up your son, that we may eat him.’ But she had hidden her son.”
Da der König die Worte des Weibes hörte, zerriss er seine Kleider, indem er auf der Mauer ging. Da sah alles Volk, dass er darunter einen Sack am Leibe anhatte.
When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. And as he passed by on the wall, the people saw the sackcloth under his clothes next to his skin.
Und er sprach: Gott tue mir dies und das, wo das Haupt Elisas, des Sohnes Saphats, heute auf ihm stehen wird!
He announced, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders through this day!”
Elisa aber saß in seinem Hause, und alle Ältesten saßen bei ihm. Und der König sandte einen Mann vor sich her. Aber ehe der Bote zu ihm kam, sprach er zu den Ältesten: Habt ihr gesehen, wie dies Mordkind hat hergesandt, dass er mein Haupt abreiße? Sehet zu, wenn der Bote kommt, dass ihr die Tür zuschließt und stoßt ihn mit der Tür weg! Siehe, das Rauschen der Füße seines Herrn folgt ihm nach.
Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger ahead, but before he arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent someone to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”
Da er noch also mit ihnen redete, siehe, da kam der Bote zu ihm hinab; und er sprach: Siehe, solches Übel kommt von dem HErrn! was soll ich mehr von dem HErrn erwarten?
While Elisha was still speaking with them, the messenger came down to him. And the king said, “This calamity is from the LORD. Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”
