La dix-septième année de Pékach, fils de Remalia, Achaz, fils de Jotham, roi de Juda, régna.
In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah.
Achaz avait vingt ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Il ne fit point ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Éternel, son Dieu, comme avait fait David, son père.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
Il marcha dans la voie des rois d’Israël; et même il fit passer son fils par le feu, suivant les abominations des nations que l’Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d’Israël.
Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire (note: Literally made his son pass through the fire), according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
Il offrait des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux, sur les collines et sous tout arbre vert.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
Alors Retsin, roi de Syrie, et Pékach, fils de Remalia, roi d’Israël, montèrent contre Jérusalem pour l’attaquer. Ils assiégèrent Achaz; mais ils ne purent pas le vaincre.
Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him.
Dans ce même temps, Retsin, roi de Syrie, fit rentrer Élath au pouvoir des Syriens; il expulsa d’Élath les Juifs, et les Syriens vinrent à Élath, où ils ont habité jusqu’à ce jour.
At that time Rezin king of Aram recovered Elath (note: Elath is a variant of Eloth; see 1 Kings 9:26.) for Aram (note: Or Syria), drove out the men of Judah, and sent the Edomites into Elath, where they live to this day.
Achaz envoya des messagers à Tiglath-Piléser, roi d’Assyrie, pour lui dire: Je suis ton serviteur et ton fils; monte, et délivre-moi de la main du roi de Syrie et de la main du roi d’Israël, qui s’élèvent contre moi.
So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hands of the kings of Aram and Israel, who are rising up against me.”
Et Achaz prit l’argent et l’or qui se trouvaient dans la maison de l’Éternel et dans les trésors de la maison du roi, et il l’envoya en présent au roi d’Assyrie.
Ahaz also took the silver and gold found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king’s palace, and he sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria.
Le roi d’Assyrie l’écouta; il monta contre Damas, la prit, emmena les habitants en captivité à Kir, et fit mourir Retsin.
So the king of Assyria responded to him, marched up to Damascus, and captured it. He took its people to Kir as captives and put Rezin to death.
Le roi Achaz se rendit à Damas au-devant de Tiglath-Piléser, roi d’Assyrie. Et ayant vu l’autel qui était à Damas, le roi Achaz envoya au sacrificateur Urie le modèle et la forme exacte de cet autel.
Then King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. On seeing the altar in Damascus, King Ahaz sent Uriah the priest a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction.
Le sacrificateur Urie construisit un autel entièrement d’après le modèle envoyé de Damas par le roi Achaz, et le sacrificateur Urie le fit avant que le roi Achaz fût de retour de Damas.
And Uriah the priest built the altar according to all the instructions King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, and he completed it before King Ahaz returned.
A son arrivée de Damas, le roi vit l’autel, s’en approcha et y monta:
When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings on it.
il fit brûler son holocauste et son offrande, versa ses libations, et répandit sur l’autel le sang de ses sacrifices d’actions de grâces.
He offered his burnt offering and his grain offering, poured out his drink offering, and splattered the blood of his peace offerings on the altar.
Il éloigna de la face de la maison l’autel d’airain qui était devant l’Éternel, afin qu’il ne fût pas entre le nouvel autel et la maison de l’Éternel; et il le plaça à côté du nouvel autel, vers le nord.
He also took the bronze altar that stood before the LORD from the front of the temple (between the new altar and the house of the LORD) and he put it on the north side of the new altar.
Et le roi Achaz donna cet ordre au sacrificateur Urie: Fais brûler sur le grand autel l’holocauste du matin et l’offrande du soir, l’holocauste du roi et son offrande, les holocaustes de tout le peuple du pays et leurs offrandes, verses-y leurs libations, et répands-y tout le sang des holocaustes et tout le sang des sacrifices; pour ce qui concerne l’autel d’airain, je m’en occuperai.
Then King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, “Offer on the great altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the land. Splatter on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar to seek guidance.”
Le sacrificateur Urie se conforma à tout ce que le roi Achaz avait ordonné.
So Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz had commanded.
Et le roi Achaz brisa les panneaux des bases, et en ôta les bassins qui étaient dessus. Il descendit la mer de dessus les bœufs d’airain qui étaient sous elle, et il la posa sur un pavé de pierres.
King Ahaz also cut off the frames of the movable stands and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took down the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone base.
Il changea dans la maison de l’Éternel, à cause du roi d’Assyrie, le portique du sabbat qu’on y avait bâti et l’entrée extérieure du roi.
And on account of the king of Assyria, he removed the Sabbath canopy (note: Or the base of his throne; see also LXX.) they had built in the temple and closed the royal entryway outside the house of the LORD.
Le reste des actions d’Achaz, et tout ce qu’il a fait, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
As for the rest of the acts of Ahaz, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
Achaz se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Et Ézéchias, son fils, régna à sa place.
And Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David, and his son Hezekiah reigned in his place.
