Nach diesem kamen die Kinder Moab, die Kinder Ammon und mit ihnen auch Meuniter, wider Josaphat zu streiten.
After this, the Moabites and Ammonites, together with some of the Meunites (note: Some LXX manuscripts (see also 2 Chronicles 26:7); Hebrew together with some other Ammonites or together with some besides the Ammonites), came to make war against Jehoshaphat.
Und man kam und sagte es Josaphat an und sprach: Es kommt wider dich eine große Menge von jenseits des Meeres, von Syrien; und siehe, sie sind zu Hazezon-Thamar, das ist Engedi.
Then some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom (note: One Hebrew manuscript; most Hebrew manuscripts, LXX, and Vulgate Aram), from beyond the Sea (note: That is, the Dead Sea); they are already in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi).
Josaphat aber fürchtete sich und stellte sein Angesicht, zu suchen den HErrn, und ließ ein Fasten ausrufen unter ganz Juda.
Jehoshaphat was alarmed and set his face to seek the LORD. And he proclaimed a fast throughout Judah.
Und Juda kam zusammen, den HErrn zu suchen; auch kamen sie aus allen Städten Judas, den HErrn zu suchen.
So the people of Judah gathered to seek the LORD, and indeed, they came from all the cities of Judah to seek Him.
Und Josaphat trat unter die Gemeinde Judas und Jerusalems im Hause des HErrn vor dem neuen Hofe
Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of the LORD in front of the new courtyard
und sprach: HErr, unser Väter Gott, bist du nicht Gott im Himmel und Herrscher in allen Königreichen der Heiden? Und in deiner Hand ist Kraft und Macht, und ist niemand, der wider dich zu stehen vermöge.
and said, “O LORD, God of our fathers, are You not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.
Hast du, unser Gott, nicht die Einwohner dieses Landes vertrieben vor deinem Volk Israel und hast es gegeben dem Samen Abrahams, deines Liebhabers, ewiglich,
Our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
dass sie darin gewohnt und dir ein Heiligtum für deinen Namen darin gebaut haben und gesagt:
They have lived in the land and have built in it a sanctuary for Your Name, saying,
Wenn ein Unglück, Schwert, Strafe, Pestilenz oder Teuerung über uns kommt, sollen wir stehen vor diesem Hause vor dir (denn dein Name ist in diesem Hause) und schreien zu dir in unsrer Not, so wollest du hören und helfen?
‘If disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment (note: Or the sword of judgment), plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
Nun siehe, die Kinder Ammon und Moab und die vom Gebirge Seir, durch welche du die Kinder Israel nicht ziehen ließest, da sie aus Ägyptenland zogen, sondern sie mussten von ihnen weichen und durften sie nicht vertilgen;
And now, here are the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You did not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt. So Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.
und siehe, sie lassen uns das entgelten und kommen, uns auszustoßen aus deinem Erbe, das du uns gegeben hast.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.
Unser Gott, willst du sie nicht richten? Denn in uns ist nicht Kraft gegen diesen großen Haufen, der wider uns kommt. Wir wissen nicht, was wir tun sollen; sondern unsre Augen sehen nach dir.
Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
Und das ganze Juda stand vor dem HErrn mit ihren Kindern, Weibern und Söhnen.
Meanwhile all the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, were standing before the LORD.
Aber auf Jahasiel, den Sohn Sacharjas, des Sohnes Benajas, des Sohnes Jehiels, des Sohnes Matthanjas, den Leviten aus den Kindern Asaph, kam der Geist des HErrn mitten in der Gemeinde,
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite from Asaph’s descendants, as he stood in the midst of the assembly.
und er sprach: Merkt auf, ganz Juda und ihr Einwohner zu Jerusalem und du, König Josaphat! So spricht der HErr zu euch: Ihr sollt euch nicht fürchten noch zagen vor diesem großen Haufen; denn ihr streitet nicht, sondern Gott.
And he said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God.
Morgen sollt ihr zu ihnen hinabziehen; und siehe, sie ziehen die Höhe von Ziz herauf, und ihr werdet sie treffen, wo das Tal endet, vor der Wüste Jeruel.
Tomorrow you are to march down against them. You will see them coming up the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley facing the Wilderness of Jeruel.
Aber ihr werdet nicht streiten in dieser Sache. Tretet nur hin und steht und seht das Heil des HErrn, der mit euch ist, Juda und Jerusalem. Fürchtet euch nicht und zaget nicht. Morgen zieht aus wider sie; der HErr ist mit euch.
You need not fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
Da beugte sich Josaphat mit seinem Antlitz zur Erde, und ganz Juda und die Einwohner von Jerusalem fielen vor dem HErrn nieder und beteten den HErrn an.
Then Jehoshaphat bowed facedown, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down before the LORD to worship Him.
Und die Leviten aus den Kindern der Kahathiter, nämlich von den Kindern der Korahiter, machten sich auf, zu loben den HErrn, den Gott Israels, mit lauter Stimme gen Himmel.
And the Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, shouting in a very loud voice.
Und sie machten sich des Morgens früh auf und zogen aus zur Wüste Thekoa. Und da sie auszogen, stand Josaphat und sprach: Hört mir zu, Juda und ihr Einwohner zu Jerusalem! Glaubet an den HErrn, euren Gott, so werdet ihr sicher sein; und glaubt an seine Propheten, so werdet ihr Glück haben.
Early in the morning they got up and left for the Wilderness of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood up and said, “Hear me, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be upheld; believe in His prophets, and you will succeed.”
Und er unterwies das Volk und bestellte die Sänger dem HErrn, dass sie lobten in heiligem Schmuck und vor den Gerüsteten her zögen und sprächen: Danket dem HErrn; denn sein Barmherzigkeit währet ewiglich.
Then Jehoshaphat consulted with the people and appointed those who would sing to the LORD and praise the splendor of His holiness. As they went out before the army, they were singing: “Give thanks to the LORD, for His loving devotion endures forever.”
Und da sie anfingen mit Danken und Loben, ließ der HErr einen Hinterhalt kommen über die Kinder Ammon und Moab und die auf dem Gebirge Seir, die wider Juda gekommen waren, und sie wurden geschlagen.
The moment they began their shouts and praises, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were defeated.
Da standen die Kinder Ammon wider die vom Gebirge Seir, sie zu verbannen und zu vertilgen. Und da sie die vom Gebirge Seir hatten alle aufgerieben, half einer dem andern zum Verderben.
The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction (note: Forms of the Hebrew cherem refer to the giving over of things or persons to the LORD, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering.). And when they had finished off the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
Da aber Juda an die Warte kam an der Wüste, wandten sie sich gegen den Haufen; und siehe, da lagen die Leichname auf der Erde, dass keiner entronnen war.
When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the vast army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped.
Und Josaphat kam mit seinem Volk, ihren Raub auszuteilen, und sie fanden unter ihnen so viel Güter und Kleider und köstliche Geräte und nahmen sich's, dass es auch nicht zu tragen war. Und teilten drei Tage den Raub aus; denn es war viel.
Then Jehoshaphat and his people went to carry off the plunder, and they found on the bodies an abundance of goods and valuables—more than they could carry away. They were gathering the plunder for three days because there was so much.
Am vierten Tage aber kamen sie zusammen im Lobetal; denn daselbst lobten sie den HErrn. Daher heißt die Stätte Lobetal bis auf diesen Tag.
On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah (note: Beracah means blessing.), where they blessed the LORD. Therefore that place is called the Valley of Beracah to this day.
Also kehrte jedermann von Juda und Jerusalem wieder um und Josaphat an der Spitze, dass sie gen Jerusalem zögen mit Freuden; denn der HErr hatte ihnen eine Freude gegeben an ihren Feinden.
Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat at their head, returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies.
Und sie zogen in Jerusalem ein mit Psaltern, Harfen und Drommeten zum Hause des HErrn.
So they entered Jerusalem and went into the house of the LORD with harps, lyres, and trumpets.
Und die Furcht Gottes kam über alle Königreiche in den Landen, da sie hörten, dass der HErr wider die Feinde Israels gestritten hatte.
And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.
Also war das Königreich Josaphats still, und Gott gab ihm Ruhe umher.
Then Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.
Und Josaphat regierte über Juda und war fünfunddreißig Jahre alt, da er König ward, und regierte fünfundzwanzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Asuba, eine Tochter Silhis.
So Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
Und er wandelte in dem Wege seines Vaters Asa und ließ nicht davon, dass er tat, was dem HErrn wohl gefiel.
And Jehoshaphat walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn away from it; he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD.
Nur die Höhen wurden nicht abgetan; denn das Volk hatte sein Herz noch nicht geschickt zu dem Gott ihrer Väter.
The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.
Was aber mehr von Josaphat zu sagen ist, beides, das erste und das letzte, siehe, das ist geschrieben in den Geschichten Jehus, des Sohnes Hananis, die aufgenommen sind ins Buch der Könige Israels.
As for the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, from beginning to end, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of Jehu son of Hanani, which are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel.
Darnach vereinigte sich Josaphat, der König Judas, mit Ahasja, dem König Israels, welcher war gottlos in seinem Tun.
Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly (note: Or who made him act wickedly or by which he acted wickedly).
Und er vereinigte sich mit ihm, Schiffe zu machen, dass sie aufs Meer führen; und sie machten Schiffe zu Ezeon-Geber.
They agreed to make ships to go to Tarshish (note: Or a fleet of trading ships), and these were built in Ezion-geber.
Aber Elieser, der Sohn Dodavas von Maresa, weissagte wider Josaphat und sprach: Darum dass du dich mit Ahasja vereinigt hast, hat der HErr deine Werke zerrissen. Und die Schiffe wurden zerbrochen und konnten nicht aufs Meer fahren.
Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has destroyed your works.” So the ships were wrecked and were unable to sail to Tarshish (note: Or set sail to trade).
