Josaphat, son fils, régna à sa place.
Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
Il se fortifia contre Israël: il mit des troupes dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et des garnisons dans le pays de Juda et dans les villes d’Éphraïm dont Asa, son père, s’était emparé.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
L’Éternel fut avec Josaphat, parce qu’il marcha dans les premières voies de David, son père, et qu’il ne rechercha point les Baals;
Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways (note: Or in his early years he walked in the ways) of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,
car il eut recours au Dieu de son père, et il suivit ses commandements, sans imiter ce que faisait Israël.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
L’Éternel affermit la royauté entre les mains de Josaphat, à qui tout Juda apportait des présents, et qui eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire.
So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
Son cœur grandit dans les voies de l’Éternel, et il fit encore disparaître de Juda les hauts lieux et les idoles.
And his heart took delight (note: Or was exalted or was courageous) in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
La troisième année de son règne, il chargea ses chefs Ben-Haïl, Abdias, Zacharie, Nethaneel et Michée, d’aller enseigner dans les villes de Juda.
In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,

accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
Ils enseignèrent dans Juda, ayant avec eux le livre de la loi de l’Éternel. Ils parcoururent toutes les villes de Juda, et ils enseignèrent parmi le peuple.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
La terreur de l’Éternel s’empara de tous les royaumes des pays qui environnaient Juda, et ils ne firent point la guerre à Josaphat.
And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
Des Philistins apportèrent à Josaphat des présents et un tribut en argent; et les Arabes lui amenèrent aussi du bétail, sept mille sept cents béliers et sept mille sept cents boucs.
Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
Josaphat s’élevait au plus haut degré de grandeur. Il bâtit en Juda des châteaux et des villes pour servir de magasins.
Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah

and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.

These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;

next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
et à ses côtés, Amasia, fils de Zicri, qui s’était volontairement consacré à l’Éternel, avec deux cent mille vaillants hommes.
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
De Benjamin: Éliada, vaillant homme, avec deux cent mille hommes armés de l’arc et du bouclier,
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
et à ses côtés, Zozabad, avec cent quatre-vingt mille hommes armés pour la guerre.
and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
Tels sont ceux qui étaient au service du roi, outre ceux que le roi avait placés dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
