Im sechsundreißigsten Jahr des Königreichs Asas zog herauf Baesa, der König Israels, wider Juda und baute Rama, dass er Asa, dem König Judas, wehrte aus und ein zu ziehen.
In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
Aber Asa nahm aus dem Schatz im Hause des HErrn und im Hause des Königs Silber und Gold und sandte zu Benhadad, dem König von Syrien, der zu Damaskus wohnte, und ließ ihm sagen:
So Asa withdrew the silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he sent it with this message to Ben-hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
Es ist ein Bund zwischen mir und dir, zwischen meinem Vater und deinem Vater; darum habe ich dir Silber und Gold gesandt, dass du den Bund mit Baesa, dem König Israels fahren lässt, dass er von mir abziehe.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you as there was between my father and your father. See, I have sent you silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
Benhadad gehorchte dem König Asa und sandte seine Heerfürsten wider die Städte Israels; die schlugen Ijon, Dan und Abel-Maim und alle Kornstädte Naphthalis.
And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, conquering Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim (note: Abel-maim was also known as Abel-beth-maacah; see 1 Kings 15:20.), and all the store cities of Naphtali.
Da Baesa das hörte, ließ er ab Rama zu bauen, und hörte auf von seinem Werk.
When Baasha learned of this, he stopped fortifying Ramah and abandoned his work.
Aber der König Asa nahm zu sich das ganze Juda, und sie trugen die Steine und das Holz von Rama, womit Baesa baute; und er baute damit Geba und Mizpa.
Then King Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timbers Baasha had used for building. And with these materials he built up Geba and Mizpah.
Zu der Zeit kam Hanani, der Seher, zu Asa, dem König Judas, und sprach zu ihm: dass du dich auf den König von Syrien verlassen hast und hast dich nicht auf den HErrn, deinen Gott, verlassen, darum ist die Macht des Königs von Syrien deiner Hand entronnen.
At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa of Judah and told him, “Because you have relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand.
Waren nicht die Mohren und Libyer ein große Menge mit sehr viel Wagen und Reitern? Doch da gab sie der HErr in deine Hand, da du dich auf ihn verließest.
Were not the Cushites (note: That is, people from the upper Nile region) and Libyans a vast army with many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.
Denn des HErrn Augen schauen alle Lande, dass er stärke die, so von ganzem Herzen an ihm sind. Du hast töricht getan; darum wirst du auch von nun an Kriege haben.
For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have acted foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you will be at war.”
Aber Asa ward zornig über den Seher und legte ihn ins Gefängnis; denn er grollte ihm über diesem Stück. Und Asa unterdrückte etliche des Volkes zu der Zeit.
Asa was angry with the seer and became so enraged over this matter that he put the man in prison. And at the same time Asa oppressed some of the people.

Now the acts of Asa, from beginning to end, are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
Und Asa ward krank an seinen Füßen im neununddreißigsten Jahr seines Königreichs, und seine Krankheit nahm sehr zu; und er suchte auch in seiner Krankheit den HErrn nicht, sondern die Ärzte.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his disease became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.
Also entschlief Asa mit seinen Vätern und starb im einundvierzigsten Jahr seines Königreichs.
So in the forty-first year of his reign, Asa died and rested with his fathers.
Und man begrub ihn in seinem Grabe, das er hatte lassen graben in der Stadt Davids. Und sie legten ihn auf sein Lager, welches man gefüllt hatte mit gutem Räuchwerk und allerlei Spezerei, nach der Kunst des Salbenbereiters gemacht, und machten ihm einen großen Brand.
And he was buried in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bier that was full of spices and various blended perfumes; then they made a great fire in his honor.
