L'Esprit de Dieu vint sur Azarias, fils d'Oded,
Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.
qui alla au-devant d'Asa et lui dit : " Ecoutez-moi, Asa, et tout Juda et tout Benjamin. Yahweh est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui ; si vous le cherchez, il se laissera trouver par vous ; mais si vous l'abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
So he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
Pendant longtemps Israël a été sans vrai Dieu, sans prêtre qui enseignât, sans loi ;
For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a priest to instruct them, and without the law.
mais, dans sa détresse, il s'est retourné vers Yahweh, son Dieu ; ils l'ont cherché, et s'est laissé trouver par eux.
But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought Him, and He was found by them.
Dans ces temps-là, point de sécurité pour ceux qui allaient et venaient, car de grandes confusions pesaient sur tous les habitants des pays.
In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.
On se heurtait, peuple contre peuple, ville contre ville, parce que Dieu les agitait par toutes sortes de tribulations.
Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God afflicted them with all kinds of adversity.
Vous donc, montrez-vous forts, et que vos mains ne faiblissent pas, car il y aura récompense pour vos œuvres. "
But as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”
En entendant ces paroles, la prophétie d'Oded, le prophète, Asa prit courage ; il fit disparaître les abominations de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin et des villes qu'il avait prises dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, et restaura l'autel de Yahweh qui était devant le portique de Yahweh.
When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD’s temple.
Il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et ceux d'Ephraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui étaient venus séjourner parmi eux ; car un grand nombre de gens d'Israël avaient passé de son côté, en voyant que Yahweh, son Dieu, était avec lui.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
Ils s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d'Asa.
So they gathered together in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
Ce jour-là, ils immolèrent à Yahweh, sur le butin qu'ils avaient amené, sept cents bœufs et sept mille brebis.
At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from all the plunder they had brought back.
Ils prirent l'engagement solennel de chercher Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme,
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
et quiconque ne rechercherait pas Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël, serait mis à mort, le petit comme le grand, l'homme comme la femme.
And whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
Ils firent un serment à Yahweh à haute voix, avec des cris d'allégresse, au son des trompettes et des cors ;
They took an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, trumpets, and rams’ horns.
tout Juda fut dans la joie de ce serment, car ils avaient juré de tout leur cœur ; car c'est de leur pleine volonté qu'ils avaient cherché Yahweh, et il s'était laissé trouver par eux ; et Yahweh leur donna la paix tout à l'entour.
And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
Le roi Asa ôta même à Maacha, sa mère, la dignité de reine-mère, parce qu'elle avait fait une idole abominable pour Astarté. Asa abattit son idole abominable et, l'ayant réduite en poudre, il la brûla au torrent de Cédron.
King Asa also removed his grandmother (note: Hebrew his mother) Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa chopped down the pole, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
Mais les hauts lieux ne disparurent point d'Israël, quoique le cœur d'Asa fut parfait pendant toute sa vie.
The high places were not removed from Israel, but Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
Il déposa dans la maison de Dieu les choses consacrées par son père et les choses consacrées par lui-même, de l'argent, de l'or et des vases.
And he brought into the house of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.
Il n'y eut point de guerre jusqu'à la trente-cinquième année du règne d'Asa.
And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
