Καὶ ἤλθεν Ῥοβοὰμ εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ ἐξεκλησίασεν τὸν Ἰούδαν καὶ Βενιαμείν, ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες νεανίσκων ποιοὐνταων πόλεμον· καὶ ἐπολέμει πρὸς Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Ῥοβοάμ.
When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mobilized the house of Judah and Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρὸς Σαμαίαν ἄνθρωπον τοῦ θεοῦ λέγων 3Εἰπὸν πρὸς Ῥοβοὰμ τὸν τοῦ Σαλωμὼν καὶ πάντα Ἰούδαν καὶ Βενιαμεὶν λέγων
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Οὐκ ἀναθήσεσθε καὶ οὐ πολεμήσετε πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν· ἀποστρέφετε ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ, ὅτι παρʼ ἐμοῦ ἐγένετο τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο. καὶ ἐπήκουσαν τοῦ λόγου Κυρίου, καὶ ἀπεστράφησαν τοῦ μὴ πορευθῆναι ἐπὶ Ἰεροβοάμ.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this is My doing.’” So they listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against Jeroboam.
καὶ κατήκησεν Ῥοβοὰμ εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν πόλεις τειχήρεις ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ.
Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and he built up cities for defense in Judah.
καὶ τὴν Σαραὰ καὶ τὴν Ἀλδὼν καὶ τὴν Χεβρὼν ἥ ἐστιν τοῦ Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμείν, πόλεις τειχήρεις.
Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, the fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.
καὶ ὠχύρωσεν αὐτὰς τειχήρεις, καὶ ἔδωκεν ἐν αὐτοῖς ἡγουμένους καὶ παραθέσεις βρωμάτων, ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον,
He strengthened their fortifications and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.
κατὰ πόλιν καὶ κατὰ πόλιν θυρεοὺς καὶ δόρατα, καὶ κατίσχυσεν αὐτὰς εἰς πλῆθος σφόδρα· καὶ ἤσαν αὐτῷ Ἰουδὰ καὶ Βενιαμείν.
He also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
καὶ οἱ Λευεῖται καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ ἦσαν ἐν παντὶ Ἰσραὴλ συνήχθησαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐκ πάντων τῶν ὁρίων·
Moreover, the priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel stood with Rehoboam.
ὅτι ἐνκατέλιπον οἱ Λευεῖται τὰ σκηνάματα τῆς κατασχέσεαως αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν πρὸς Ἰουδἀ εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, ὅτι ἐξέβαλλεν αὐτοὺς Ἰεροβοὰμ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ μὴ λειτουργεῖν Κυρίῳ.
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτῷ ἱερεῖς τῶν ὑψηλῶν καὶ τοῖς εἰδώλοις καὶ τοῖς ματαίοις καὶ τοῖς μόσχοις, ἃ ἐποίησεν Ἰεροβοάμ· ¹⁶καὶ ἐξέβαλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ φυλῶν Ἰσραὴλ οἵ ἔδωκαν καρδίαν αὐτῶν τοῦ ζητῆσαι Κύριον θεὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἥλθον εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ θῦσαι Κυρίῳ θεῷ τῶν τέρων αὐτῶν.
And Jeroboam appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat demons and calf idols he had made.
καὶ κατίσχυσαν τὴν βασιλείαν Ἰούδα· καὶ κατίσχυσεν Ῥοβοὰμ τὸν τοῦ Σαλωμὼν εἰς ἔτη τρία, ὅτι ἐπορεύθη ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς Δαυεὶδ καὶ Σαλωμὼν ἔτη τρία.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
καὶ ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ Ῥοβοὰμ γυναῖκα τὴν Μολλὰθ θυγατέρα Ἰεριμοὺθ υἱοῦ Δαυείδ, Βαίαν θυγατέρα Ἐλιὰν τοῦ Ἰεσσαί.
And Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse’s son Eliab.
καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ υἱοὺς τὸν Ἰαοὺθ καὶ τὸν Σαμαρίαν καὶ τὸν Ῥοολλάμ.
She bore sons to him: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.
καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῷ τὴν Μααχὰ θυγατέρα Ἀβεσσαλώμ, καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ τὸν Ἀβιὰ καὶ τὸν Ἰεθθεὶ καὶ τὸν Ζειζὰ καὶ τὸν Ἐμμώθ.
After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, and she bore to him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.
καὶ ἠγάπησεν Ῥοβοὰμ τὴν Μαάχαν θυγατέρα Ἀβεσσαλὼμ ὑπέρ πάσας τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς παλλακὰς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι γυναῖκας δέκα ὀκτὼ εἰχεν καὶ παλλακὰς τριάκοντα· καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς εἴκοσι ὀκτὼ καὶ θυγατέρας ἐξήκοντα.
Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
καὶ κατέστησεν εἰς ἄρχοντα Ἀβιὰ τὸν τῆς Μααχὰ εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι βασλεῦσαι διενοεῖτο αὐτόν.
Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to make him king.
καὶ ηὐξήθη παρὰ πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν τοῖς ὁρίοις Ἰούδα καὶ Βενιαμεὶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν ταῖς ὀχυραῖς, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐταῖς τροφὰς πλῆθος πολύ, καὶ ήτήσατο πλῆθος γυναικῶν.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
