30:1
Καὶ ἐγενήθη εἰσελθόντος Δαυεὶδ καὶ τῶν ἀνδρῶν αὐτοῦ εἰς Κεειλὰ τῇ τρίτῃ, καὶ Ἀμαλὴκ ἐπέθετο ἐπὶ τὸν νότον καὶ ἐπὶ καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν Σεκελὰκ καὶ ἐνεπύρισεν αὐτὴν ἐν πυρί·
On the third day David and his men arrived in Ziklag, and the Amalekites had raided the Negev, attacked Ziklag, and burned it down.
30:2
καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν αὐτῇ ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου, οὐκ ἐθανάτωσαν ἄνδρα καὶ γυναῖκα ἀλλ’ ᾐχμαλώτευσαν · καὶ ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτῶν.
They had taken captive the women and all who were there, both young and old. They had not killed anyone, but had carried them off as they went on their way.
30:3
καὶ ἦλθεν Δαυεὶδ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν πόλιν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐνπεπύρισται ἐν πυρί, αἱ δὲ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν κοὶ αἱ θυγατέρες αὐτῶν ᾐχμαλωτευμένοι.
When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive.
30:4
καὶ ἦρεν Δαυεὶδ κα οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν, καὶ ἔκλαυσαν ἕως ὅτου οὐκ ἦν ἔτι κλαίειν.
So David and the troops with him lifted up their voices and wept until they had no strength left to weep.
30:5
καὶ ἀμφότεραι αἱ γυναῖκες Δαυεὶδ ᾐχμαΑχεινόομ ἡ Ἰσραηλεῖτις καὶ Ἀβειγαία ἡ γυνὴ Ναβὸλ τοῦ Καρμηλίου.
David’s two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel, had been taken captive.
30:6
καὶ ἐθλίβη Δαυεὶδ σφόδρα, ὅτι εἶπεν ὁ λαὸς λιθοβολῆνσαι αὐτόν, ὅτι κατώδυνος ψυχὴ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ ἑκάστου ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐκραταιώθη Δαυεὶδ ἐν κυρίῳ θεῷ αὐτοῦ.
And David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of every man grieved for his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.
30:7
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυεὶδ πρὸς ᾿ Αβιαθὰρ τὸν ἱερέα υἱὸν ᾿ Αχειμέλεχ Προσάγαγε τὸ ἐφούδ.
Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought it to him,
30:8
καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν Δαυεὶδ διὰ τοῦ κυρίου λέγων Εἰ καταδιώξω ὀπίσω τοῦ γεδδοὺρ τούτου, εἰ καταλήμψομαι αὐτούς ; καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ καταδίωκε, ὅτι καταλαμβάνων καταλήμψῃ καὶ ἐξαιρούμενος ἐξελῇ.
and David inquired of the LORD: “Should I pursue these raiders? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” the LORD replied, “for you will surely overtake them and rescue the captives.”
30:9
καὶ ἐπορεύθη Δαυεὶδ αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔρχονται ἕως τοῦ χειμάρρου Βοσόρ· καὶ οἱ περισσοὸ ἔστησαν.
So David and his six hundred men went to the Brook of Besor, where some stayed behind
30:10
καὶ οἱ περισσοὶ ἐδίωξαν ἐν τετρακοσί σιν, ὑπέστησαν δὲ διακόσιοι ἄνδρες οἵτινες ἐκάθισαν πέραν τοῦ ῥοῦ τοῦ Βοσόρ.
because two hundred men were too exhausted to cross the brook. But David and four hundred men continued in pursuit.
30:11
Καὶ εὑρίσκουσιν ἄνδρα Αἰγύπτιον ἐν ἀγρῷ, καὶ λαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς Δαυεὶδ ἐν ἀγρῷ· καἰ διδόασιν αὐτῷ ἄρτον καὶ ἔφαγεν, καὶ ἐπότισαν αὐτὸν ὕδωρ·
Now his men found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David. They gave the man water to drink and food to eat—
30:12
καὶ διδόασιν αὐτῷ κλάσμα παλάθης καὶ ἔφαγεν, καὶ κατέστη τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ, ὅτι οὐ βεβρώκει ἄρτον καὶ οὐ πεπώκει ὕδωρ τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας.
a piece of a fig cake and two clusters of raisins. So he ate and was revived, for he had not had any food or water for three days and three nights.
30:13
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυείδ τίνος σὺ εἶ, καὶ πόθεν εἰ; καὶ εἶπεν τὸ παιδάριον τὸ Αἰγύπτιον Ἐγώ εἰμι δοῦλος ἀνδρὸς Ἀμαληκείτου, καὶ κατέλιπέν με ὁ κύριός μου, ὅτι ἠνωχλήθην ἐγὼ σήμερον τριταῖος.
Then David asked him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” “I am an Egyptian,” he replied, “the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me three days ago when I fell ill.
30:14
καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐπεθέμεθα ἐπὶ νότον τοῦ Χολθεὶ καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τῆς Ἰουδαῖος μέρη καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν Γελβοῦε, καὶ τὴν Σεκελὰκ ἐνεπυρίσαμεν ἐν πυρί.
We raided the Negev of the Cherethites, the territory of Judah, and the Negev of Caleb, and we burned down Ziklag.”
30:15
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Δαυείδ Εἰ κατάξεις με ἐπὶ τὸ γεδδοὺρ τοῦτο ; καὶ εἶπεν ὄμοσον δή μοι κατὰ τοῦ θεοῦ μὴ θανατώσειν με καὶ μὴ παραδοῦναί με εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ κυρίου μου, κοὶ κατάξω σε ἐπὶ τὸ γεδδοὺρ τοῦτο.
“Will you lead me to these raiders?” David asked. And the man replied, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hand of my master, and I will lead you to them.”
30:16
καὶ κατήγαγεν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὗτοι διακεχυμένοι ἐπὶ πρόσωπον πάσης τῆς γῆς, ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες καὶ ἑορτάζοντες ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς σκύλοις τοῖς μεγάλοις οἷς ἔλαβον ἐκ γῆς ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ἐκ γῆς Ἰούδα.
So he led David down, and there were the Amalekites spread out over all the land, eating, drinking, and celebrating the great amount of plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and the land of Judah.
30:17
καὶ ἦλθεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς Δαυείδ, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ ἑωσφόρου ἕως δείλης καὶ τῇ ἐπαύριον, καὶ οὐκ ἐσώθη ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀνὴρ ὅτι ἀλλ’ ἢ τετρακόσια παιδάρια ἃ ἦν ἐπιβεβηκότα ἐπὶ τὰς καμήλους καὶ ἔφυγον.
And David struck them down from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man escaped, except four hundred young men who fled, riding off on camels.
30:18
καὶ ἀφείλατο Δαυεὶδ πάντα ἃ ἔλαβον οἱ ᾿ Αμαληκεῖται, καὶ ἀμφοτέρας τἀς γυναῖκας αὐτοῦ ἐξείλατο.
So David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives.
30:19
καὶ οὐ διεφώνησεν αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν σκύλων καὶ ἕως υἱῶν καὶ θυγατέρων καὶ ἕως πάντων ὄι ἔλαβον αὐτῶν, καὶ πάντα ἐπέστρεψεν Δαυείδ.
Nothing was missing, young or old, son or daughter, or any of the plunder the Amalekites had taken. David brought everything back.
30:20
καὶ ἔλαβεν πάντα τὰ ποίμνια καὶ τὰ βουκόλια καὶ ἀπήγαγεν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν σκύλων· καὶ τοῖς σκύλοις ἐκείνοις ἐλέγετο ταῦτα τὰ σκῦλα Δαυείδ.
And he took all the flocks and herds, which his men drove ahead of the other livestock, calling out, “This is David’s plunder!”
30:21
καὶ παραγίνεται Δαυεὶδ πρὸς τοὺς διακοσίους ἄνδρας τοὺς ἐκλυθέντας τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ὀπίσω Δαυείδ, καὶ ἐκάθισεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ χειμάρρῳ τῷ Βεανά, καὶ ἐξῆλθον εἰς ἀπάντησιν Δαυεὶδ καὶ εἰς ἀπάντησιν τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσήγαγεν Δαυεὶδ ἕως τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν τὰ εἰς εἰρήνην.
When David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to follow him and who were left behind at the Brook of Besor, they came out to meet him and the troops with him. As David approached the men, he greeted them,
30:22
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη πᾶς ἀνὴρ λοιμὸς καὶ πονηρὸς τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν πολεμιστῶν τῶν πορευθέντων μετὰ Δαυεὶδ καὶ εἶπαν Ὅτι οὐ κατεδίωξαν μεθ’ ἡμῶν, οὐ δώσομεν αὐτοῖς ἐκ τῶν σκύλων ὧν , ὅτι ἀλλ’ ἢ ἕκαστος τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποστρεφέτωσαν.
but all the wicked and worthless men among those who had gone with David said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered, except for each man’s wife and children. They may take them and go.”
30:23
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυείδ Οὐ ποιήσετε οὕτως μετὰ τό παραδοῦναι τὸν κύριον ἡμῖν καὶ φυλάξαι ἡμᾶς, καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος τὸν γεδδοὺρ τὸν ἐπερχόμενον ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς εἰς χεῖρας ἡμῶν.
But David said, “My brothers, you must not do this with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and delivered into our hands the raiders who came against us.
30:24
καὶ τίς ὑπακούσεται ὑμῶν τῶν λόγων τούτων ; ὅτι οὐχ ἧττον ὑμῶν εἰσιν· διότι κατὰ τὴν μερίδα τοῦ καταβαίνοντος ε οὕτως ἔσται μερὶς καθημένου ἐπὶ τὰ σκεύη· κατὰ τὸ αὐτὸ
Who will listen to your proposal? The share of the one who went to battle will match the share of the one who stayed with the supplies. They will share alike.”
30:25
καὶ ἐγενήθη ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης καὶ ἐπάνω, καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς πρόσταγμα καὶ δικαίωμα τῷ Ἰσραὴλ ἕως τῆς σήμερον.
And so it has been from that day forward. David established this statute and ordinance for Israel to this very day.
30:26
καὶ ἦλθεν Δαυεὶδ εἰς Σεκελάκ, καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις τῶν σκύλων Ἰούδα καὶ τοῖς πλησίον αὐτοῦ λέγων ἰδοὺ ἀπὸ τῶν σκύλων τῶν ἐχθρῶν Κυρίου·
When David arrived in Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
30:27
τοῖς ἐν Βαιθσοὺρ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Ῥαμὰ νότου καὶ τοῖς ἐν Γεθθὸρ
He sent gifts to those in Bethel, Ramoth Negev, and Jattir;
30:28
καὶ τοῖς ἐν Ἀροὴρ καὶ τοῖς Ἀμμαδεὶ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Σαφεῖ καὶ τοῖς ἐν ᾿Εσθεῖε
to those in Aroer, Siphmoth, and Eshtemoa;
30:29
καὶ τοῖς ἐν Γὲθ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Κειμὰθ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Σαφὲκ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Θειμὰθ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Καρμήλῳ καὶ τοῖς ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ τοῖς ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν τοῦ Κενεζεὶ
to those in Racal and in the cities of the Jerahmeelites and Kenites;
30:30
καὶ τοῖς ἐν Ἰερειμοὐθ καὶ τοῖς ἐν Βηρσάβεε καὶ τοῖς ἐν Νοὸ
to those in Hormah, Bor-ashan, and Athach;
30:31
καὶ τοῖς ἐν Χεβρών, καὶ πάντας τοὺς τόπους οὓς διῆλθεν Δαυεὶδ ἐκεῖ, αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ.
and to those in Hebron and in all the places where David and his men had roamed.
