Now the Philistines brought all their forces together at Aphek, while Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.
Pendant que les princes des Philistins s'avançaient en tête des centaines et des milliers, et que David et ses gens marchaient à l'arrière-garde avec Achis,
As the Philistine leaders marched out with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men marched behind them with Achish.
les chefs des Philistins dirent : « Qu'est-ce que ces Hébreux ? » Achis répondit aux chefs des Philistins : « N'est-ce pas ce David, serviteur de Saül, roi d'Israël, qui est avec moi depuis des jours et depuis des années, sans que j'aie trouvé en lui la moindre chose à reprocher, depuis qu'il a passé vers nous jusqu'à ce jour. »
Then the commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish replied, “Is this not David, the servant of King Saul of Israel? He has been with me all these days, even years, and from the day he defected until today I have found no fault in him.”
Mais les chefs des Philistins s'irritèrent contre Achis, et les chefs des Philistins lui dirent : « Renvoie cet homme, et qu'il retourne dans le lieu où tu l'as établi ; qu'il ne descende pas avec nous à la bataille, de peur qu'il ne soit pour nous un adversaire pendant le combat. Et comment pourrait-il rentrer en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n'est en lui offrant les têtes de ces hommes ?
But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our adversary during the war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
N'est-ce pas ce David pour qui l'on chantait en dansant : Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille. »
Is this not the David about whom they sing in their dances: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?”
Achis appela David et lui dit : « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant ! tu es un homme droit, et je vois de bon œil toute ta conduite avec moi dans le camp, car je n'ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi, depuis le jour où tu es venu vers moi jusqu'à ce jour ; mais tu déplais aux yeux des princes.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright, and it seems right in my sight that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you are not good in the sight of the leaders.
Retourne donc et va-t-en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins. »
Therefore turn back now and go in peace, so that you will not do anything to displease the leaders of the Philistines.”
David dit à Achis : « Mais qu'ai-je fait, et qu'as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur, depuis le jour où je suis venu auprès de toi jusqu'à ce jour, pour que je n'aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi ? »
“But what have I done?” David replied. “What have you found against your servant, from the day I came to you until today, to keep me from going along to fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
Achis répondit et dit à David : « Je sais que tu as été bon à mon égard comme un ange de Dieu ; mais les chefs des Philistins disent : il ne montera point avec nous à la bataille.
Achish replied, “I know that you are as pleasing in my sight as an angel of God. But the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go into battle with us.’
Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton seigneur qui sont venus avec toi ; levez-vous de bon matin, et dès qu'il fera jour, partez. »
Now then, get up early in the morning, along with your master’s servants who came with you, and go as soon as it is light.”
David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin et retourner au pays des Philistins ; et les Philistins montèrent à Jezraël.
So David and his men got up early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
