Les Ziphéens vinrent auprès de Saül à Gabaa, et dirent : « David est caché sur la colline de Hachila, à l'est de la lande. »
Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding on the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?”
Saül se leva et descendit au désert de Ziph avec trois mille hommes d'élite d'Israël, pour chercher David au désert de Ziph.
So Saul, accompanied by three thousand chosen men of Israel, went down to the Wilderness of Ziph to search for David there.
Saül campa sur la colline de Hachila, à l'est de la lande, près du chemin, et David demeurait dans le désert. S'étant aperçut que Saül marchait à sa recherche au désert,
Saul camped beside the road at the hill of Hachilah opposite Jeshimon, but David was living in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had followed him there,
David envoya des espions et apprit que Saül était réellement arrivé.
David sent out spies to verify that Saul had arrived.
David se leva et vint au lieu où Saül était campé. David vit l'endroit où était couché Saül, avec Abner, fils de Ner, chef de son armée : — or Saül couchait au milieu du camp, et le peuple était campé autour de lui. —
Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw the place where Saul and Abner son of Ner, the general of his army, had lain down. Saul was lying inside the inner circle of the camp, with the troops camped around him.
S'adressant donc à Achimélech, le Héthéen, et à Abisaï, fils de Sarvia et frère de Joab, David dit : « Qui veut descendre avec moi au camp vers Saül. » Et Abisaï répondit : « Moi, je descendrai avec toi. »
And David asked Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, “Who will go down with me to Saul in the camp?” “I will go with you,” answered Abishai.
David et Abisaï arrivèrent de nuit vers le peuple, et voici que Saül était couché au milieu du camp et dormait, sa lance fichée en terre à son chevet ; Abner et le peuple étaient couchés autour de lui.
That night David and Abishai came to the troops, and Saul was lying there asleep in the inner circle of the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. And Abner and the troops were lying around him.
Abisaï dit à David : « Dieu a enfermé aujourd'hui ton ennemi entre tes mains ; maintenant, je te prie, laisse-moi le frapper de la lance et le clouer en terre d'un seul coup, sans que j'aie à y revenir. »
Abishai said to David, “Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand. Now, therefore, please let me thrust the spear through him into the ground with one stroke. I will not need to strike him twice!”
Mais David dit à Abisaï : « Ne le tue pas ! Car qui porterait la main sur l'oint de Yahweh et resterait impuni ? »
But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him, for who can extend a hand against the LORD’s anointed and be guiltless?”
Et David dit : « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant ! Ce sera seulement Yahweh qui le frappera ; ou bien son jour arrivera et il mourra, ou bien il descendra à la guerre et il périra ;
David added, “As surely as the LORD lives, the LORD Himself will strike him down; either his day will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.
mais que Yahweh me préserve de porter la main sur l'oint de Yahweh ! Maintenant, prends la lance qui est à son chevet, avec la cruche d'eau, et allons-nous-en. »
But the LORD forbid that I should extend my hand against the LORD’s anointed. Instead, take the spear and water jug by his head, and let us go.”
Et David prit la lance et la cruche d'eau qui étaient au chevet de Saül, et ils s'en allèrent. Personne ne vit, personne ne sut, personne ne se réveilla, car ils dormaient tous, Yahweh ayant fait tomber sur eux un profond assoupissement.
So David took the spear and water jug by Saul’s head, and they departed. No one saw them or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up; they all remained asleep, because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen on them.
David passa de l'autre côté, et se tint au loin sur le sommet de la montagne ; un grand espace les séparait.
Then David crossed to the other side and stood atop the mountain at a distance; there was a wide gulf between them.
Et David cria au peuple et à Abner, fils de Ner, en disant : « Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner ! » Abner répondit en disant : « Qui es-tu, toi qui cries vers le roi ? »
And David shouted to the troops and to Abner son of Ner, “Will you not answer me, Abner?” “Who are you who calls to the king?” Abner replied.
David dit à Abner : « N'es-tu pas un homme ? Et qui est ton pareil en Israël ? Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas gardé le roi, ton seigneur ? Car quelqu'un du peuple est venu pour tuer le roi, ton seigneur.
So David said to Abner, “You are a man, aren’t you? And who in Israel is your equal? Why then did you not protect your lord the king when one of the people came to destroy him?
Ce que tu as fait là n'est pas bien. Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant ! Vous avez mérité la mort, pour n'avoir pas gardé votre maître, l'oint de Yahweh. Regarde maintenant où sont la lance du roi et la cruche d'eau qui était à son chevet. »
This thing you have done is not good. As surely as the LORD lives, all of you deserve to die, since you did not protect your lord, the LORD’s anointed. Now look around. Where are the king’s spear and water jug that were by his head?”
Saül reconnut la voix de David et dit : « Est-ce bien ta voix, mon fils David ? » Et David répondit : « C'est ma voix, ô roi, mon seigneur. »
Then Saul recognized David’s voice and asked, “Is that your voice, David my son?” “It is my voice, my lord and king,” David said.
Il ajouta : « Pourquoi mon seigneur poursuit-il son serviteur ? Qu'ai-je fait, et quel crime ma main a-t-elle commis ?
And he continued, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?
Que le roi, mon seigneur, daigne maintenant écouter les paroles de ton serviteur : si c'est Yahweh qui t'excite contre moi, qu'il agrée le parfum d'une offrande ; mais si ce sont des hommes, qu'ils soient maudits devant Yahweh, puisqu'ils m'ont chassé maintenant, pour m'ôter ma place de l'héritage de Yahweh, en disant : Va servir des dieux étrangers !
Now please, may my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the LORD has stirred you up against me, then may He accept an offering. But if men have done it, may they be cursed in the presence of the LORD! For today they have driven me away from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
Et maintenant que mon sang ne tombe pas sur la terre, loin de la face de Yahweh ! Car le roi d'Israël s'est mis en marche pour chercher une puce, comme on poursuivrait une perdrix dans les montagnes. »
So do not let my blood fall to the ground far from the presence of the LORD. For the king of Israel has come out to look for a flea, like one who hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
Saül dit : « J'ai péché ; reviens, mon fils David, car je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisqu'en ce jour ma vie a été précieuse à tes yeux. Voilà que j'ai agi en insensé et j'ai fait une grande faute. »
Then Saul replied, “I have sinned. Come back, David my son. I will never harm you again, because today you considered my life precious. I have played the fool and have committed a grave error!”
David répondit : « Voici la lance, ô roi ; que l'un de tes jeunes gens vienne la prendre.
“Here is the king’s spear,” David answered. “Let one of the young men come over and get it.
Yahweh rendra à chacun selon sa justice et sa fidélité ; car Yahweh t'avait livré aujourd'hui entre mes mains, et je n'ai pas voulu porter la main sur l'oint de Yahweh.
May the LORD repay every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. For the LORD delivered you into my hand today, but I would not extend my hand against the LORD’s anointed.
Voici que, comme ta vie a été aujourd'hui d'un grand prix à mes yeux, ainsi ma vie sera d'un grand prix aux yeux de Yahweh, et il me délivrera de toute angoisse ! »
As surely as I valued your life today, so may the LORD value my life and rescue me from all trouble.”
Saül dit à David : « Sois béni mon fils, David ! Tu réussiras certainement dans tes entreprises. » David continua son chemin, et Saül s'en retourna chez lui.
Saul said to him, “May you be blessed, David my son. You will accomplish great things and will surely prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.
