Samuel prit une fiole d'huile, et la versa sur la tête de Saül ; puis il le baisa et dit : « Yahweh ne t'a-t-il pas oint pour chef sur son héritage ?
Then Samuel took a flask of oil, poured it on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, “Has not the LORD anointed you ruler over His inheritance (note: Hebrew; LXX “Has not the LORD anointed you ruler over Israel? And you will rule over the LORD’s people and save them from their enemies around them. This will be the sign to you that the LORD has appointed you to be leader over His inheritance.)?
Quand tu m'auras quitté aujourd'hui, tu trouveras deux hommes près du sépulcre de Rachel, dans le territoire de Benjamin, à Selsach ; ils te diront : « Les ânesses que tu es allé chercher sont retrouvées ; et voici, ton père a perdu de vue l'affaire des ânesses, mais il est en peine de vous et dit : Que dois-je faire au sujet de mon fils ? »
When you leave me today, you will find two men at Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The donkeys you seek have been found, and now your father has stopped worrying about the donkeys and started worrying about you, asking, “What should I do about my son?”’
De là, poursuivant ta route, tu arriveras au chêne de Thabor, et là tu seras rencontré par trois hommes montant vers Dieu à Béthel, et portant l'un trois chevreaux, l'autre trois miches de pain, et l'autre une outre de vin.
Then you will go on from there until you come to the Oak (note: Or Terebinth or Great Tree) of Tabor. Three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.
Après qu'ils t'auront salué, ils te donneront deux pains, et tu les recevras de leurs mains.
They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will accept from their hands.
Après cela, tu viendras à Gabaa de Dieu, où se trouve un poste de Philistins. En entrant dans la ville, tu rencontreras une troupe de prophètes descendant du haut lieu, précédés de luths, tambourins, flûtes et harpes, et prophétisant.
After that you will come to Gibeah of God (note: Hebrew Gibeath-Elohim, meaning the hill of God), where the Philistines have an outpost. As you approach the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, preceded by harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be prophesying.
L'Esprit de Yahweh te saisira, et tu prophétiseras avec eux, et tu seras changé en un autre homme.
Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be transformed into a different person.
Lorsque ces signes se seront accomplis pour toi, fais ce qui se présentera, car Dieu est avec toi.
When these signs have come, do as the occasion demands, for God is with you.
Et tu descendras avant moi à Galgala ; et voici, je descendrai vers toi, pour offrir des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Tu attendras sept jours jusqu'à ce que je sois venu vers toi et je te ferai connaître ce que tu dois faire. »
And you shall go before me to Gilgal, and surely I will come to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. Wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”
Dès que Saül eut tourné le dos pour se séparer de Samuel, Dieu lui donna un autre cœur, et tous ces signes s'accomplirent le même jour.
As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all the signs came to pass that day.
Quand ils arrivèrent à Gabaa, voici qu'une troupe de prophètes vint à sa rencontre ; et l'Esprit de Dieu le saisit, et il prophétisa au milieu d'eux.
When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah (note: Gibeah means the hill.), a group of prophets met him. Then the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied along with them.
Quand tous ceux qui le connaissaient auparavant virent qu'il prophétisait avec les prophètes, tous ces gens se dirent l'un à l'autre : « Qu'est-il arrivé au fils de Cis ? Saül est-il donc aussi parmi les prophètes ? »
When all those who had formerly known Saul saw him prophesying with the prophets, they asked one another, “What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”
Quelqu'un de la foule prit la parole et dit : « Et qui est leur père ? » — C'est pourquoi cela est passé en proverbe : « Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes ? » —
Then a man who lived there replied, “And who is their father?” So the saying became a proverb: “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
Lorsqu'il eut cessé de prophétiser, il se rendit en haut lieu.
And when Saul had finished prophesying, he went up to the high place.
L'oncle de Saül dit à Saül et à son serviteur : « Où êtes-vous allés ? » Saül répondit : « Chercher les ânesses ; mais ne les ayant vues nulle part, nous sommes allés vers Samuel. »
Now Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant, “Where did you go?” “To look for the donkeys,” Saul replied. “When we saw they were not to be found, we went to Samuel.”
L'oncle de Saül dit : « Raconte-moi ce que vous a dit Samuel. »
“Tell me,” Saul’s uncle asked, “what did Samuel say to you?”
Et Saül répondit à son oncle : « Il nous a appris que les ânesses étaient retrouvées. » Mais quant à l'affaire de la royauté, il ne lui rapporta pas ce qu'avait dit Samuel.
And Saul replied, “He assured us that the donkeys had been found.” But Saul did not tell his uncle what Samuel had said about the kingship.
Samuel convoqua le peuple devant Yahweh à Maspha,
After this, Samuel summoned the people to the LORD at Mizpah
et il dit aux enfants d'Israël : « Ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu d'Israël : J'ai fait monter Israël d'Egypte, et je vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens et de la main de tous les royaumes qui vous opprimaient.
and said to the Israelites, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt, and I rescued you from the hands of the Egyptians and of all the kingdoms that oppressed you.’
Et vous, aujourd'hui, vous rejetez votre Dieu, qui vous a délivrés de tous vos maux et de toutes vos souffrances, et vous lui dites : Etablis un roi sur nous ! Présentez-vous maintenant devant Yahweh, selon vos tribus et selon vos familles. »
But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions, and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and clans.”
Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d'Israël, et la tribu de Benjamin fut désignée par le sort.
Thus Samuel had all the tribes of Israel come forward, and the tribe of Benjamin was selected.
Il fit approcher la tribu de Benjamin par familles, et la famille de Métri fut désignée ; puis Saül, fis de Cis fut désigné. On le chercha, mais on ne le trouva point.
Then he had the tribe of Benjamin come forward by its clans, and the clan of Matri was selected (note: LXX includes And he brought the family of the Matrites near, man by man.). Finally, Saul son of Kish was selected. But when they looked for him, they could not find him.
Alors ils interrogèrent de nouveau Yahweh : « Est-il venu ici encore quelqu'un ? » Yahweh répondit : « Voici, il est caché parmi les bagages. »
So again they inquired of the LORD, “Has the man come here yet?” And the LORD replied, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
On courut le tirer de là, et il se tint au milieu du peuple, dépassant tout le peuple de l'épaule et au delà.
So they ran and brought Saul, and when he stood among the people, he was a head taller than any of the others.
Et Samuel dit à tout le peuple : « Voyez-vous celui que Yahweh a choisi ? Il n'y a personne dans tout le peuple qui soit semblable à lui. » Et tout le peuple poussa des cris en disant : « Vive le roi ! »
Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see the one the LORD has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.” And all the people shouted, “Long live the king!”
Alors Samuel exposa au peuple le droit de la royauté, et il l'écrivit dans le livre, qu'il déposa devant Yahweh ; puis il renvoya tout le peuple, chacun dans sa maison.
Then Samuel explained to the people the rights of kingship. He wrote them on a scroll and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, each to his own home.
Saül aussi s'en alla dans sa maison à Gabaa, accompagné d'hommes de valeur, dont Dieu avait touché le cœur.
Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, and the men of valor whose hearts God had touched went with him.
Toutefois les hommes de Bélial disaient : « Est-ce celui-là qui nous sauvera ? » Et ils le méprisèrent et ne lui apportèrent pas de présents. Mais Saül n'y prit point garde.
But some worthless men said, “How can this man save us?” So they despised him and brought him no gifts; but Saul remained silent about it.
