6:1
The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.
The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
6:2
And these are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni, and Shimei.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
6:3
And the sons of Kohath were Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel.
The children of Amram: Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
6:4
The sons of Merari: Mahli, and Mushi. And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’houses.
Eleazar was the father of Phinehas, Phinehas was the father of Abishua,

Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son;
Abishua was the father of Bukki, Bukki was the father of Uzzi,

Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son. .
Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah, Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth,

The sons of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son;
Meraioth was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub,
6:8
Elkanah his son, and Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son;
Ahitub was the father of Zadok, Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz,

Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son.
Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, Azariah was the father of Johanan,
And the sons of Elkanah: Amasai, and Ahimoth.
Johanan was the father of Azariah, who served as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem,
As for Elkanah: the sons of Elkanah: Zophai his son, and Nahath his son;
Azariah was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub,
Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son.
Ahitub was the father of Zadok, Zadok was the father of Shallum,
And the sons of Samuel: the first-born Vashni; then Abiah.
Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, Hilkiah was the father of Azariah,
The sons of Merari: Mahli; Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son;
Azariah was the father of Seraiah, and Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak (note: Jehozadak is a variant of Jozadak; also in verse 15; see Ezra 3:2.).
Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son.
Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.
And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest.
The sons of Levi: Gershom (note: Gershom is a variant of Gershon; similarly in verses 17, 20, 43, 62, and 71; see verse 1.), Kohath, and Merari.
And they ministered with song before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem; and they took their station at their service according to their order.
These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei.
And these are they that took their station, and their sons. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel;
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah;
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites listed according to their fathers:
the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai;
Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,
the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah;
Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, and Jeatherai his son.
the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah;
The descendants of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,
the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.
Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph (note: Ebiasaph is a variant of Abiasaph; also in verse 37; see Exodus 6:24.) his son, Assir his son,
And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand; even Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea;
Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son.
the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah;
The descendants of Elkanah: Amasai, Ahimoth,
the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah;
Elkanah his son, Zophai his son, Nahath his son,
the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei;
Eliab (note: Eliab is also called Eliel; see verse 34. Both of these are other names for Elihu; see 1 Samuel 1:1.) his son (note: Hebrew; some LXX manuscripts include and Samuel his son; see verses 33–34 and 1 Samuel 1:19–20.), Jeroham his son, and Elkanah his son.
the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
The sons of Samuel: Joel his firstborn and Abijah his second son (note: See Syriac and some LXX manuscripts (also verse 33 and 1 Samuel 8:2); Hebrew The sons of Samuel: the firstborn Vashni, then Abiah.).
And on the left hand their brethren the sons of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch;
The descendants of Merari: Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son,
the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah;
Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, and Asaiah his son.
the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer;
These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD after the ark rested there.
the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.
They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. And they performed their duties according to the regulations given them.
And their brethren the Levites were appointed for all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God.
These are the men who served, together with their sons. From the Kohathites: Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of burnt-offering, and upon the altar of incense, for all the work of the most holy place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel (note: Eliel is also called Eliab; see verse 27. Both of these are other names for Elihu; see 1 Samuel 1:1.), the son of Toah,
And these are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son;
the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,
Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son;
the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,
Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son;
the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.
the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.
Now these are their dwelling-places according to their encampments in their borders: to the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, for theirs was the [first] lot,
Heman’s kinsman was Asaph, who served at his right hand: Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea,
to them they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, and the open land round about it;
the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah (note: Most Hebrew manuscripts; some Hebrew manuscripts, one LXX manuscript, and Syriac Maaseiah), the son of Malchijah,
but the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,
And to the sons of Aaron they gave the acity (note: Heb. Cities.) of refuge, Hebron; Libnah also with the open land about it, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with the open land about it;
the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei,
and Hilen with the open land about it, Debir with the open land about it;
the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
and Ashan with the open land about it, and Beth-shemesh with the open land about it;
On the left were their kinsmen, the sons of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,
and out of the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with the open land about it, and Alemeth with the open land about it, and Anathoth with the open land about it. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,
And unto the rest of the sons of Kohath were given by lot, out of the family of the tribe, out of the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, ten cities.
the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer,
And to the sons of Gershom, according to their families, out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.
the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.
Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
Their fellow Levites were assigned to every kind of service of the tabernacle, the house of God.
So the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with the open land about them.
But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which are mentioned by name.
These were the descendants of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,
And some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.
Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,
And they gave unto them the bcity (note: Heb. Cities.) of refuge, Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim with the open land about it; Gezer also with the open land about it;
Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,
and Jokmeam with the open land about it, and Bethhoron with the open land about it;
Zadok his son, and Ahimaaz his son.
and Aijalon with the open land about it, and Gath-rimmon with the open land about it;
Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements, because the first lot fell to them:
and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh: Aner with the open land about it, and Bileam with the open land about it, for the rest of the family of the sons of Kohath.
They were given Hebron in the land of Judah and its surrounding pasturelands.
Unto the sons of Gershom were given, out of the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with the open land about it, and Ashtaroth with the open land about it;
But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
and out of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with the open land about it, Dobrath with the open land about it;
So the descendants of Aaron were given Hebron (a city of refuge), Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
and Ramoth with the open land about it, and Anem with the open land about it;
Hilen, Debir,
and out of the tribe of Asher: Mashal with the open land about it, and Abdon with the open land about it;
Ashan (note: Ashan is a variant of Ain; see Joshua 21:16.), Juttah, and Beth-shemesh, together with their pasturelands.
and Hukok with the open land about it; and Rehob with the open land about it;
And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands. So they had thirteen cities in all among their families.
and out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with the open land about it, and Hammon with the open land about it, and Kiriathaim with the open land about it.
To the rest of the Kohathites, ten cities were allotted from the half-tribe of Manasseh.
Unto the rest [of the Levites], the sons of Merari, were given, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmono with the open land about it, Tabor with the open land about it;
The Gershomites (note: Gershomites is a variant of Gershonites; also in verse 71; see 1 Chronicles 23:7.), according to their clans, were allotted thirteen cities from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh in Bashan.
and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them, out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with the open land about it, and Jahaz with the open land about it,
The Merarites, according to their clans, were allotted twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
and Kedemoth with the open land about it, and Mephaath with the open land about it;
So the Israelites gave to the Levites these cities and their pasturelands.
and out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead with the open land about it, and Mahanaim with the open land about it,
They assigned by lot the cities named above from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
and Heshbon with the open land about it, and Jazer with the open land about it.
And some of the clans of the Kohathites were given cities from the tribe of Ephraim for their territory:
