Καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ κατʼ ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν χιλίαρχοι καὶ ἑκατόνταρχοι καὶ γραμματεῖς οἱ λειτουργοῦντες τῷ λαῷ καὶ εἰς πᾶν λόγον τοῦ βασιλέως κατὰ διαιρέσεις, πᾶν λόγον τοῦ εἰσπορευομένου καὶ ἐκπορευομένου μῆνα ἐκ μηνός, εἰς πάντας τοὺς μῆνας τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ, διαίρεσις μία εἵκοσι καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως τῆς πρώτης τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου Σοβὰ ὁ τοῦ Ζαβδειήλ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ εἵκοσι καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες.
Jashobeam son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division, which was assigned the first month. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Φάρες ἄρχων πάντων τῶν ἀρχόντων τῆ δυνάμεαος τοῦ μηνὸς τοῦ πρώτου.
He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army commanders for the first month.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως τοῦ μηνὸ τοῦ δευτέρου Δωδειὰ ὁ Ἐκχώχ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ εἴκοσι καὶ τέσσαρες χιλιάδες, ἄρχοντες δυνάμεως.
Dodai (note: Dodai is a variant of Dodo; see 2 Samuel 23:9.) the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ τρίτος τὸν μῆνα τὸ τρίτον Βαναίας ὁ τοῦ Ἰωδᾶε ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ ἄρχων, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες.
The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division.
αὐτὸς Βαναίας δυνατώτερο τῶν τριάκοντα καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν τριάκοντα, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ Λαιβαζὰθ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ. ⁷ὁ τέταρτος εἰς τὸν μῆνα τὸν τέταρτον Ἀσαὴλ ὁ ἀδελφὸς Ἰωὰβ καὶ Ἀβδεἰας ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἵκοσι χιλιάδες.
This Benaiah was mighty among the Thirty and was over the Thirty, and his son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
ὁ πέμπτος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ πέμπτῳ ὁ ἡγούμενος Σαλαὼθ ὁ Ἐσρᾶε, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ εἴκοσι τέσσαρες χιλιάδες.
The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth (note: Shamhuth is a variant of Shammoth or Shammah; see 1 Chronicles 11:27 and 2 Samuel 23:25.) the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ ἕκτος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ Ὀδουίας ὁ τοῦ Ἐκκὴς ὁ εκωνείτης, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες.
The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ ἕβδομος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἑβδόμῳ Κέσλης ὁ ἐκ Φαλλοὺς ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ἐφράιμ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ είκοσι χιλιάδες.
The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ ὄγδοος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ὀγδόῳ Σοβοχαὶ ὁ Ἰσαθεὶ τῷ Ζαριά, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ είκοσι χιλιάδες.
The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ ἔνατος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἐνάτῳ Ἀβιέζερ ἐξ Ἀναθὰθ ἐκ γῆς ενιαμείν, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἵκοσι χιλιάδες.
The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ δέκατος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ δεκάτῳ Μεηρὰ ὁ ἐκ Νετουφὰτ τῷ Ζαρεί, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες.
The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ ἑνδέκατος τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἑνδεκάτῳ Βαναίας ὁ ἐκ Φαραθὼν τῶν υἱῶν Ἐφράιμ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες.
The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
ὁ δωδέκατος εἰς τὸν μῆνα τὸν δωδέκατον Κολδειὰ ὁ ἐκ Νετωφατεὶ τῷ Γοθονιήλ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς διαιρέσεως αὐτοῦ τέσσαρες καὶ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες.
The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai (note: Heldai is a variant of Heled; see 1 Chronicles 11:30 and 2 Samuel 23:29.) the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ, τῶν Ῥουβὴν ἡγούμενος Ἐλιέζερ ὁ τοῦ Ζεχρεί· τῷ Συμεὼν Σαφατίας ὁ τοῦ Μαχά·
These officers were in charge of the tribes of Israel: Over the Reubenites was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah son of Maacah;
τῷ Λευεὶ Ἀσαβίας ὁ τοῦ Σαμουὴλ· τῷ Ἀαρὼν Σαδώκ·
over Levi was Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over Aaron was Zadok;
τῷ Ἰούδα Ἐλιὰβ τῶν ἀδελφῶν Δαυείδ· τῷ Ἰσσαχὰρ Ἀμβρεὶ ὁ τοῦ Μεισαῆλ·
over Judah was Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over Issachar was Omri son of Michael;
τῷ Σαβουλὼν Σαμαίας ὁ τοῦ Ἀβδειού· τῷ Νεφθαλεὶ Ἐρειμὼθ ὁ τοῦ Ἐσρειήλ·
over Zebulun was Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali was Jerimoth son of Azriel;
τῷ Ἐφράιμ Ὡσὴ ὁ τοῦ Ὀζειού· τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασσὴ Ἰωήλ ὁ τοῦ Φαλαδαιά·
over the Ephraimites was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over one of the half-tribes of Manasseh was Joel son of Pedaiah;
τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασσὴ τῶν ἐν τῆ Γαλαὸβ Ἰαδδαὶ ὁ τοῦ Σαβδειού· τοῖς υἱοῖς Βενιαμεὶν Ἀσειὴρ ὁ τοῦ Ἀβεννήρ·
over the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead was Iddo son of Zechariah; over Benjamin was Jaasiel son of Abner;
τῷ Δὰν Ἀζαραὴλ ὁ τοῦ Ἰωράμ. οὗτοι πατριάρχαι τῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ.
and over Dan was Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.
καὶ οὐκ ἔλαβεν Δαυεὶδ τὸν ἀριθμὸν αὐτῶν ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ κάτω, ὅτι Κύριος εἶπεν πληθῦναι τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ὡς τοὺς ἀστέρας τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
καὶ Ἰωὰβ ὁ τοῦ Σαρουιὰ ἤρξατο ἀριθμεῖν ἐν τῷ λαῷ, καὶ οὐ συνετέλεσεν· καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τούτοις ὀργὴ ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ οὐ κατεχωρίσθη ὁ ἀριθμὸς ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τοῦ βασιλέως Δαυείδ.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν θησαυρῶν τοῦ βασιλέως Ἀσμὼθ ὁ τοῦ 2διήλ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν θησαυρῶν τῶν ἐν ἀγρῷ καὶ ἐν ταῖς κώμαις καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἐποικίοις καὶ ἐν τοῖς πύργοις Ἰωναθὰν ὁ τοῦ Οζειού.
Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses.
ἐπ ὶ δὲ τῶν γεωργούντων τὴν γῆν τῶν ἐργαζομένων Ἐσδρεὶ ὁ τοῦ Χοβούδ.
Ezri son of Chelub was in charge of the workers in the fields who tilled the soil.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν χωρίων Σεμεεὶ ὁ ἐκ Ῥαήλ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν θησαυρῶν τῶν ἐν τοῖς χαορίοις τοῦ οἴνου Ζαχρεὶ ὁ τοῦ Σεφνεί.
Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards. Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine vats.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ἐλαιώνων καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν συκαμίνων τῶν ἐν τῇ πεδινῇ Βαλανᾶς ὁ Γεδωρείτης· ἐπὶ δὲ τῶν θησαυρῶν τοῦ ἐλαίου Ἰωάς.
Baal-hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore trees in the foothills (note: Hebrew Shephelah or lowlands; that is, the western foothills of Judea). Joash was in charge of the stores of olive oil.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν βοῶν τῶν νομάδων τῶν ἐν τῷ Ἀσειδὼν Ἀσαρταὶς ὁ Σαρωνείτης, καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν βοῶν τῶν ἐν τοῖς αὐλώσιν Σωρὰν ὁ τοῦ Αδαι.
Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.
ἐπὶ δὲ τῶν καμήλων Ἀβίας ὁ ἐπὶ δὲ τῶν ὄοων Ἰαδίας ὁ ἐκ Μεραθών.
Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.
καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν προβάτων Ἰαζεὶζ ὁ Γαρείτης. πάντες οὗτοι προστάται ὑπαρχόντων Δαυεὶδ τοῦ βασιλέως.
Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these officials were in charge of King David’s property.
Καὶ Ἰωναθὰν ὁ πατράδελφος Δαυεὶδ σύμβουλος, ἄνθρωπος συνετός· καὶἸεὴλ ὁ τοῦ Ἀχαμεὶ μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν τοῦ βασιλέως.
David’s uncle Jonathan was a counselor; he was a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the king.
ʼΑχειτόφελ σύμβουλος τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ Κουσεὶ ὁ πρῶιος φίλος τοῦ βασιλέως.
Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.
καὶ μετὰ τοῦτον Ἀχειτόφελ ἐχόμενος Ἰωδᾶε ὁ τοῦ Βαναίου καὶ Ἀβιάθαρ· καὶ Ἰωὰβ ἀρχιστράτηγος τοῦ βασιλέως.
Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then by Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the king’s army.
